If United tried to go toe to toe with Bayern, we'd have been destroyed. We'd have set up identically under SAF, and we did play almost the same against Madrid last year. And you know what? I'm FAR more proud to be a United fan after the games against Madrid and Bayern, than I would be about getting humiliated 4 or 5 nil just because it's tradition to play 'our way'

You saw what happened to Barca last year when they tried to play their way against them.

Fact of the matter is, we did something that very few teams have done over the last 3 years or so, and stopped Bayern scoring more than one.

United got a fair result whilst we have lost both home ties to them, admittedly we have done well away in Munich.

Dont think last nights tactics were aimed at entertaining the neutral, and more to do with not getting a good thumping in your last Champions League home game for the foreseeable future.
It wasn't great to watch, and doesn't really point to any great improvement at the club, in terms of the first team, but United fans seem a lot happier this morning.
When your team are playing well below your clubs previous level, you have to adjust your expectations, and to their credit, United fans seem to have done that quite quickly.

What a load of bóllocks. 'Our previous level'? What, like trying to play properly against Barca in 2 finals, and getting schooled? or playing identically versus Madrid last year, and losing? Playing like that is hardly new, it's the same tactic we use against Arsenal virtually every time we play them.

The reason we're happy this morning is NOT the result, that is an added bonus, against no less than the BEST team in the world right now. Last night showed something we have not seen at OT this season. Passion, commitment and desire (while a trite cliche) makes it no less true. The majority of our players played their parts fantastically.

It has NOTHING to do with lowering our standards. Chelsea played the same and won the CL. See the Barc/Munich game last season to see what happens when you actually try to play against them.

It was a very good defensive performance.

I don't think we would have 'expected' to beat this Bayern team even with past great teams, so expectation has nothing to do with it.

=======================
Why is it a load of ballacks ?
Your team set up not to be heavily beaten, you put everyone behind the ball, you are not performing to previous standards at your club, and your fans would not have been accepting of such a performance under your previous manager, add to this, that it will be your last home game in this competition for a while.
So were exactly have I been talking ballacks ?

I dont understand what the OP is trying to get at, we failed against them, Man U done ok, fair enough they defended for the lives and are probly going out of the comp next week, but let them have their moment because we didn't do much better.

We know what it takes to win the champions league. Arsenal fans talking about how to play in Europe haha. At least we are still in the tie by the second leg and arsenal parked the bus in bayern and just used oxs pace. Instead of being obsessed with our club look at your own and think why haven't you won a trophy in maybe a decade

We set up to keep ourselves in the tie.
--------------------
I think you forget who the home team was. You'd have gone away looking to score an away goal, a 1-1 draw for Bayern is a good result, not United. Can't see why there's quite so much optimism myself, although Bayern are beatable United are likely to get crushed in Germany.

Calm down Man U fans, this guy does not represent us all. I think he's still a bit upset that we're out of the comp. But saying that, the only reason your still in the tie is because it's over 2 legs, you'll be out of the comp next week.

Is that it, sound.
United were not cowardly last night, but simply realistic in terms of how they are playing this season, and what they thought they had to do to avoid a heavy defeat.
As I said, not much to look at if your a 'neutral', but in terms of where United are right now, a necessity.

We were meant to get thrashed at home according to most people.
