English footballs fear of change

Sherwood gets a fair amount of stick, doesn't he?
Plus the media are sure he is leaving in the summer it probably seems pointless to them to write loads of stories about him.

AVB gets more stick because he had over £100m talent added to his squad and top 4 was a must. Sherwood gets a pass because the demands were not as high.

Nothing, IMO, to do with xenophobia or a pro-Brit agenda. Just two very different situations for managers of the same club.

Sherwood doesn't really get pounced on for his weaknesses though. Like the article says, AVB was supposedly the uber cocky foreign kid. Yet Sherwood came out and bragged about his win percentage and nothing is said.

Chris Hughton did a poor job at Norwich this season, goes and there is media uproar. Can guarantee if he was foreign nothing would be said.

Great article, and an opinion i've long suspected is held by many Spurs fans since Harry was sacked. There is the argument that "English managers do better, English core is better.." but it just doesn't hold true in the real world.

Xenophobia or fear or the unknown.. I don't know either, but we're in 2014 - players and managers should be judged on merit alone

Sherwood is liked because although he portrays a cocky personality, people did not expect him to do a good job due to his inexperience.

AVB came with a reputation and has failed miserably twice in England now, and then started claiming he was responsible for Chelsea winning the Champions League.

Also Steve Bruce never gets any praise despite continually taking teams to the Premier League and doing a good job with them.

Isn't it just that Spurs are not a big story at the moment and there is a knowing that Sherwood will be out in the summer. The media don't really have any sensational stories to sell here, as I see it.
If Sherwood is manager on August 14th, or whenever the season starts, then he will analysed more closely.

Article seems pretty spot on, the bizarre English mentality is even found often on this forum or other social media sites. People seem to think being English means you are perfectly suited to the pl, whereas in reality if you are GOOD you are perfectly suited to the pl.

I agree.

And I thought the media were quite nice to Rafa when he was Chelsea manager, it was more the fans that hated him.

FFS, so finishing the season with the highest points total ever and then having virtually an entire team to gel yet still remaining in every cup competition and a handful of points off 2nd place is a miserable fail.

Clueless.

Sherwood has got away with spouting absolute ballacks in interviews, but because he leaves a triffic impression they don't use them.

Van Gaal gave an interview saying he's sick of only seeing his players 8 times a year and the headline (and only quote in the story) is "LVG sick of his job".

What they (Daily Fail and Sun aside) report is usually fair enough, it's the bits they choose to leave out that tell the story

Carried by a World Class player. Record points total means fack all, he finished 5th. Not 4th.

The guy was an utter conman. And as for being in all Cup competitions he was in a píss easy Europa Cup, hadn't played an FA Cup game yet and in the League Cup had beaten an atrocious Villa team before scraping past Hull at home in an embarrassing performance.

Fed up with the direction of the club and our forum's inability to see it.

I don't get why AVB is rated so highly and Harry was hated so much. Puts the whole British bias nonsense to bed for me.

Wouldn't say Harry is hated, there is just frustration at him that we achieved nothing with our best team in years.

Harry wasn't hated, he just kept digging himself a bigger hole.

AVB is only rated by the minority, I think he's talented but hugely flawed.

If only we could splice the two

Hahah!!.. Every team is carried one way or another by a brilliant player. Ronaldo does it at Real Madrid, they lost 2-0 last night without him. PSG lost without Ibrahimovic. Messi has carried Barcelona countless times.

How can achieving the highest points total ever mean feck all we are not a top four team, when will you understand?! If we finish 5th that's a good achievement for us, you underestimate how hard it is to gel 7 new players who have never played in the PL and barely know the language.

Yes.

This has nothing to do with my opinion. I liked Harry's Spurs team- they were both good to watch and successful yet people were happy to see him leave for a guy that could have destroyed Chelsea?

Yes.

That was boring.

It has to do with us explaining what we thought of our ex managers to someone happy to make assumptions about it. Which is boring

Bottled 3rd after knowing we needed it for CL, embarrassed in 2 FA Cup Semi Finals, as well as in the Europa. Not perfect.

Of course he wasn't perfect, but the fact he got into those positions in the first place demonstrated what he could do and he did it in an exciting way too!
