Almost like the Emo Philips poem 'Most States'.

RID ... You need to control your urge to post before engaging brain ..

Are you short of blood sugar ? .... Try a bit of cake . I'm in a very nice cafe as we speak ... Almond slices . Ginger muffins, lemon drizzle . That's what you need and none of them begin with B !

Hinton, you may be right.
Think I'll get a Bakewell tart. Or some Yorkshire parkin.

I see what you've done there RID .... There are three good things to say about Yorkshire ...

1) the Dirties always gift us 6 points a season
2) 1st stage of this years Tour de France
3) 2nd stage of this years Tour de France

Errrr that's it I think

As for Bakewell .... It's a Pudding not a Tart ... 👺

I think this is an opportune moment for me to mention a wonderful cafe in Drogheda, Ireland that serves the most gorgeous raspberry and white chocolate home-made scones...

Sounds exceptional Moj I do like a scone ...

.. I have returned to the previously
Mentioned cafe in Belper for a delicious dish of F4ggots .. I fear I may have downgraded them earlier so from now on they are up to bistro level ..No 44 in Belper .... Highly reccomended ..., reminds me of my own, sadly departed, Soul Deli restaurant in Derby

Hinton
Anyone who speaks up for the Bakewell Pudding against the insidious incursion of the spurious tart is ok by me

Being into cakes and such I thought you would be taking out a mortgage, going to Yorkshire nice parts, and visiting a Betty's cafe RID. Those coming to Doncaster on good Friday, if you are early should try Woods Cafe and have a scone. You wont be able to move for the next half hour.

Spart- you're preaching to the converted!
Have enjoyed pigging out at Harrogate Betty's many a time. Afternoon tea cost an arm and a leg, but even Oscar Pistorias would pay that!

Cheers Cat ... Funny though ...I thought you'd be more of a tart than a pudding sort of girl.....amazing how you get the wrong impression online

Never ever heard of Bakewell pudding. Bakewell tart is what you will find in any recipe book and I make a very wicked Bakewell tart. Ummmm, delicious.

In these parts, superwhite , it's like the Salem witch trials for anyone using the t word... Tis a pudding ... Take your book out and burn it .

I'm going to get burned at the stake for this, then.
I did buy a Bakewell pudding when on a visit to the veryplace. I found it really greasy and heavy, my wife and son wouldn't finish it either.
The confection sold as Bakewell tart, although I agree is an imposter, I do enjoy.

Which one of the two original Bakewell pudding shops did you visit RID?

posted on 11/4/14

It was years ago, Spart, but I do remember the puddings were in a glass case on the counter- it was a very busy shop.

RiD, give Bakewell Pudding another chance! My grandfather was Workhouse master at Bakewell and I use my gran's recipe. It eschews such travesties as cherries and icing!

I felt the need to provide some photographic evidence of me eating the Drogheda Scone. This is probably me at my happiest. Except when we hammer the Dogs 5 nil, of course.

Cat - are you from that neck of the woods? All my family are from Matlock/Darley Dale/Youlgreave/Bakewell area

Moj! How tempting that looks! !
I'm already all over Ryan air!

Cat- the cherries I definitely agree should not be found in ANY confectionery, can't stand those glace bloody cherries. Dark, Morello cherries in hot puds- yum.
I'll give the Bakewell Pud another try, you must give me the recipe!
