I agree he's good on the ball.
But I've watched him quite a lot in that joke defence for Argentina so I don't think he's what we need.
Midfield and left back are bigger priorities as well for me because we've got some good cb's that just need to be played regularly. Can't say the same for many other positions.
Rakitic and bender for cm. While selling Anderson and Fellani.
We all like the idea of getting a young English left back but if the 30 million price being touted we compromise our other signings I will rather see us go for one of coentrao,Moreno or Rodriguez
I would like to see Jones and smalling paired in cb but accept they might require a vidic type alongside them seeing as we will lose a lot of experience in defence.
Also, we need a pact winger
Unless moyes comes up with a way of getting the best out of rvp and Rooney one of them (rvp) has to go. This might be the key to convincing hernandes to stay. If both leave we might be on the market for another #9.

That team is awesome an realistic imo ESP if the reus rumours are to be believed.
I reckon Madrid will go for Rakitic.
I'd love to get Pjanic if he's available. Only got a year left on his contract, and while Roma will be in the CL I'm sure we could test their resolve and tempt him to coming here.
Pjanic is an attacking midfielder. Do we really want another one of them
I do not watch much Italian football but isn't pjanic more advanced cm of a three rather than a sitting or b2b cm which is what we need
Can play both.
Plays deeper than Rakitic does.
There's nothing to suggest United won't sign players from Champions League clubs. So far under your current manager (the one who has biggest say in who you sign) half your major transfers have been from CL clubs.

What are you struggling with exactly?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Players with CL experience aren't realistic targets because we've signed 8 since 2001...
Doesnt really account for the fact that in that for a number of years in that period we had one of our strongest teams ever and were for a number of years only required to sign squad players or players with potential to become top players....
Furthermore I think the list of targets in the OP is completely ridiculous in its lack of ambition... our manager has already said he wants top players. None of those are top players. His last signing was Mata and in the summer he was aiming for players like Thiago and Fabregas. I think a target like De Guzman is far more unrealistic than us signing Carvalho/Kroos/Reus.
A lot will depend on who our rivals are aiming for as well.
If we are competing for the same players we are handicapped without being in the CL because some of these teams can offer as much or more in wages, and given they're better at the moment it may tip the scale in their favour.
Not to suggest that they'll beat us to every player, because we are still a big draw for players, despite what many with have you think.
CL makes next to no difference. Money will win the day.
Of course it makes a difference. It may not be the deciding factor in every transfer but it makes a difference and will handicap us if we are competing with City and Chelsea for players.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course this is correct. Take Luis Suarez for example. For example, is anyone seriously saying that Liverpool don't stand a better chance of keeping Suarez, now they are in the CL? Missing out on the CL is going to see us pay through the nose for top players and we will have to offer considerably higher wages to attract players that are being coveted by CL clubs.
I don't know why people are discounting the possibility of Herrera coming this summer. Moyes has already shown an interest and the guy has had a good season.
I reckon we'll try and get him again then add him to Carvalho and Shaw. That's a pretty realistic and very promising scenario.
And those three to Mangala and we'll have had an awesome summer. I'd love Reus too but that would be a wish too far.
If we got those 5 players I think even Stretty would be kneeling at the altar of Moyes.
Difficult knowing with these Basques, Rob. I get the impression he's pretty happy at Bilbao and they'll likely be in the CL next season and are a young team on the up, so other than money there might not be a great deal of motivation to leave.
It could happen, though, and I wouldn't mind him at United, even though I think there are better cm's out there.
As a dm, a name not mentioned, if we don't get Carvalho, is Camacho at Malaga.
He's always impressed me for Atleti, Malaga and the under 21's. He's a bit like Carrick but looks more solid defensively. Could be a decent signing and wouldn't cost much.
Fair enough. Could be a good signing. But something tells me that while I'm sure Moyes would prefer to spend less money that he might be under pressure to sign more well known players to bring some confidence to the fans and the markets.
Yeah I'm with you on that one. The Mata signing is a perfect example. Ok it's not helped us get top four but it's a sign of intent that we are spend big money on players to get back to the top quickly - Mata's comments the other day echo that.

This is where Fergie went wrong at Utd. Standing still when you're on top. Bayern won the treble and went out and bought 2 of the best young CM's in the world. The summer we bought Veron and RVN was the only year where he tried to improve a great team.
Or when we went out and signed Tevez, Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani.
Or adding Berbatov to the European champions.
Our biggest mistake was not replacing Ronaldo sufficiently, not adding to class sides as we did that twice.

(Signed the year we won the league after a relatively unsuccessful period. We were no force.)
Or adding Berbatov to the European champions.
(Probably not the right signing)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a better team than our 01 team and was a team on the up. That 01 team needed investing in because Sheringham, Cole and Yorke were on their last legs.
Veron probably wasn't the right signing either, but as with Berba we bought a quality player to strengthen an already quality side, which we did in the summer of 07 with the signings we made - obviously the signings didn't work out in the long run, but they all strengthened that squad and played a big part in us winning the double.
I do agree with the last bit, but for me the biggest problem was always the loss of Ronaldo as we just didn't have a player close to his level in the squad any more - we should have got Robben as part of the deal, not signed Valencia and facking Obertan.

Agreed. Think Fergie didn't want him because he turned down Utd before.
Really thought we should have got in on the great Real Madrid clearout in a big way. In two summers they sold off Robben, Sneijder, VDV, Negredo, Huntelaar, Cannavaro and Guti
Yeah could be, Fergie was probably bitter about that. I can't think of many players he's gone back for after being turned down. Shearer is the only one I can actually think of.
Sneijder, Huntelaar and Robben are the only ones from those players I'd have wanted, to be honest.
Would have liked Higuain as well. We held all the cards in that transfer and didn't take advantage at all. I think the Glazers may have had something to do with that, because at the time our finances weren't quite as strong as they are now.
Sell Ronaldo for £80m, buy Valencia, Obertan and Owen on a free. Something isn't right there, and I'm not sure it's all because Fergie didn't want to spend.
