Friedel was world class at Rovers
Wait so it doesn't matter what these keepers have done against Europe's elite then?
DAVID FÙCKING JAMES....
Has deservedly not been mentioned yet...
Surprised nobody has mentioned Steve 'Blobfish' Ogrizovich yet...
Schmeichel became somewhat overrated after United's succession of awful Keepers between him and VDS.
Similar to Gilberto Silva at Arsenal.

How can one of the best GKs of all time be overrated?

He was quite good towards the end of his career. Probably the best English keeper in PL since Seamen. Also holds the record for most PL appearances or something I think.
"Wait so it doesn't matter what these keepers have done against Europe's elite then?"
Well the article's title suggests only PL keepers. So European performances don't count I thought.

Why wouldn't they? They are pl keepers, doesn't mean what they did in other competitions shouldn't be taken into account.
Even then, it doesn't matter because Lehman wasn't in Schmeichel's class even in the league.
"Well the article's title suggests only PL keepers. So European performances don't count I thought."
Not at all. It includes all PL keepers. By definition it excludes all keepers who have not played in this country (effectively).
It does not specify what competitions they are restricted to.
If you're playing for a PL club in Europe, your performances should, surely, be taken into account. Especially as you're testing yourself against the best around.
Even your achievements for country should be taken into account.
I think saying "PL" just makes it easier for people to make a judgement, based on keepers they have seen playing in our domestic leagues.
Otherwise, why not have "best FA Cup goalkeepers"?

Cech for me"
That's interesting. And what about the top five?
Cech has gone through spells at Chelsea where he has struggled for form but he always recovers.
VDS had a spell when he would parry the ball back into the six yard box (Roma & Portsmouth to name two occasions) but generally he was excellent for United, and Fulham, i think he pips Cech into second behind Schmikes.
I think honourable mentions should go to the likes of Brad Friedel, Mark Bosnich (when he was at Villa) and Carlo Cudicini who was brilliant for Chelsea for 3-4 seasons pre-Abramovich.
Schmeichel
---------------
VDS + Cech (Cech pre injury > VDS > Cech post injury)
---------------
Seaman + Lehman + Reina + Dudek + a few others
If I had to pick 2 after Schmeichel, Cech + van der Sar, I'd go for Seaman and probably Dudek. I really rated him at one point.
