Biggest cheats of all time?

I'd sat at Chelsea still Benched. The cream rises to the top, and Jose would still have been a great manager who won things wherever he went. Chelsea would have still had a managerial merry go round, and eventually he would have gone there. It may have happened later, but at some point he'd have wanted to come to the money league and Chelsea are certainly a Mourinho club. Limitless cash and traditionally build on power and solidarity.

Getting back to the article, Henry v Ireland was pretty despicable, what made it doubly worse was his faux consoling of Richard dunne at the end, talk about adding insult to injury, at least maradona celebrated his handball
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What was worst about it was the fact that his first handball touch wasn't good enough he had to take a second. The most conscious act of cheating I've ever seen.

Suarez in the World Cup was survivalist instinct.

Suarez vs Ghana. That was the biggest cheat I've seen in my life. That's why i will never respect that man. His antics later tells you all you need to know.

I'm amazed he got out of Africa alive. Was sickening.

Anyone remember this?

I think we need to expand our footballing knowledge!!
It's the biggest cheats of ALL TIME, and we haven't gone back before 2004 yet!!!

I suppose some things just stick in the memory more, or the amount of HD angles you can view things from means there's no hiding place any more.

For example, if the United v Arsenal game in 2003 (0-0) hadn't have been on MotD (there only used to be one game that was televised), nobody would have know (unless you were at the game) the depths that those Arsenal players sunk to after RVN missed the penalty.

There could have been loads of incidents like that in the 1970s, for example (although I highly doubt any team embarrassed themselves and shamed the game as much as Arsenal did at Old Trafford), but there may be no footage.

PS,

Cheating seems to have become more prevalent as the stakes have got higher in the professional high paid era.

If this is all time then, while it's quite speculative and I've not seen the footage to draw conclusions, the bent refs at the 1930 world cup in Mussolini's Italy has to be the biggest one.

Nobody does corruption quite like the Italians so it's not unreasonable to think Mussolini threatened the refs.

Real's 11-1 win against Barca back on 1943 wasn't particularly fair unless you consider Franco threatening to kill you if you beat Real as fair.

Suarez may have cheated and it could be argued that it was the worst but I don't think so personally. He did what he had to do to give his country even a chance of progressing. I would have done the same. At the end of the day, Gyan only had to score from 12 yards and missed.

The Calciopoli scandal is an obvious one.

That was merely trying to cheat rather than actually cheating.

I don't think it was ever proven that the clubs actually influenced the appointments of referees - although I'm open to be proven wrong.

For consistency......Paul scholes for getting away with kicking the sheeet out everyone all to often....

Fa cup spurs vs chels semi final......had no bearing on chels winning....but john terry laughing about KNOWING the ball hadn't crossed the line.....caaaaant.

It's not just the scandal but the actual trial that is a blight on Italian football.

Well of course.

You've got people fixing games, and handballing the ball into the goal, and yet you're plumping for Paul Scholes as the biggest cheat in the game??

posted on 18/4/14

Yes......that's one of mine......pick yours.

Not much point in stating those already gone.

Seeing as Scholes is the 3rd most booked PL player ever and has 11 red cards to his name I don't think he got away with it.

posted on 18/4/14

Ironically, I think Scholes did once get away with handling the ball into the goal. My memory may be mis-serving me, but I think he did!!

I seem to remember a few years ago some Italian club AC I think playing celtic in a champs league match & the keeper going down as if he'd been shot. He got some sort of ban,Wasn't it the Brazilian keeper that is at QPR now???? Sorry the memory not too clear as it was just a news item here in oz never actually saw the game just the footage.

No, think it was Dida, Ceasar played for Inter. Didn't a kid run onto the pitch and give him a cheeky slap on the face and we went down as if he'd been shot?

No Scholes got a straight red for that. Against Zenit in the supercup.

11 is surprisingly low......!!!!

I wouldn't say it makes him a cheat, just a bit dirty. Same with Viera.
