Yaya is a great player - comfortably the best CM in the league - but for me stands out in a league which is desperately lacking in quality CMs. Going back 5 or 6 years we had Scholes, Gerrard in his prime, Lampard in his prime, Ballack, Essien, Deco, Alonso, Mascherano, Fabregas, Modric. Put him amongst that crowd and he wouldn't stand out like he does today.
Case in point, he has never really shone in the CL against the very best. The likes of Gundogan, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Alonso, Xavi and Iniesta have all got one over on him in recent years.
So I think he gets the recognition he deserves. He's a brilliant player, but I don't think he's among the elite. When he started talking about not being as well known as Messi I was laughing my a'ss off.
the 2000s really was a golden age of CMs compared to now -bloodred- i agree. I remember at the Bridge in Ballacks first season we had him, Lamps, Essien and Makelele in the same squad. Pool had Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard for a while together. You guys had Scholes Carrick and Fletcher(when he was a tireless workhorse). Arsenal still had GIlberto Silva with Fabregas. Seems like a different era compared to now.

Poor old Toure using the old "black" card again
No sympathy he gets tons of praise.
