To be fair on Moyes

Agree with most of these but would keep;

Smalling - has the talent just needs to improve his concentration.
Fletcher - can help us close down games in the final 10-15 minutes.
Carrick - is still good enough to be in the squad, although I do think we need to sign two CMs this window. No point buying one to play alongside Carrick.

I think you say fletcher over sentiments and Carrick isn't the player some big him up to be. Sure he's been great signing over the years but he is 33 soon so hardly part of our long term future.

As for Smalling you are probably right he is good cover.

Smalling - sure he's decent but he is Newcastle decent not Man Utd
----------------

Wrong, at centre back hes miles better than jones. Jones as a cb needs to be on this list, the mans a liability.

Welbeck needs to be on this list instead of hernandez.

I agree with the rest, good enough for top four, not for wanting to be elite in europe.

Certainly not going to say your wrong about Jones it's your opinion but I prefer him over Smalling.

However having said that unless we sign a few top defenders we have little choice.

Moyes has gotten an easy ride on the Fellaini signing.

Especially when you consider how much stick people at spurs have got for Lamela / Soldado.

Jones has been conceding penalties, left right and centre for fun and been at fault for goals since he was moved to cb.

Playing him as a cb is one of moyes mistakes because he became undroppable for some mystical reason, the guys an awful cb.

good option for the middle as back up and right back. but his positioning just has never been good enough.

No he hasnt.

ANd tbh i think lamela has been the worst signing in the league, i cant rmemeber one thing that guy has done.

Soldado will be better next season i think, he hasnt been as bad as many make out.

Jones and Smalling work well together. But I think Evans is better than both and under rated somewhat. The problem is, including Rio and Vidic, all 5 of them are injury prone and have spent the best part of the last few seasons injured (or in case of Smalling and Jones, out of position when fit). It will have an impact.

I do think Rio needs to go, Vidic is already leaving. We need an experienced CB to come in who isn't injury prone so Jones, Smalling and M.Keane or another youth player who is promoted has someone to guide them. Otherwise i'd prefer Smalling and Evans at CB.

Welbeck and Hernandez are both good as 3rd choice CF. The problem is, if we start using only one, then they will either be used out of position or not at all as Rooney and RVP are better than them.

I agree with the rest.

On Cleverley though, if someone like Van Gaal comes in, he may become useful again. There is a reason why Martinez wants him, because he knows how to use these types of players.

could be right, but has started about 2 prem games due to AVB for some reason never playing him, so we cannot really judge.

has looked class in spells in the Europa though, showing that he has something about him.

Smalling - sure he's decent but he is Newcastle decent not Man Utd
=================

Smalling is the best CB currently at the club. Miles better than Jones and Evans and better than the current incarnation of Vidic and Ferdinand. People overhype Jones. seen nothing to suggest he is a top player.

Evra - been poor for 3 years
===========
By his standards, yes.

Vidic - probably been our best defender this season
BUT is always injured and is no where near the player we all know
================
I'm afraid I disagree completely. Vidic has been one of our worst defenders this season.

Rio - just needs to end he's well past best
===========
Agreed

Cleverley - I have no words but he is a Norwich City type player
=========
He is a squad player that is not being used properly. He would thrive in the right formation

Fletcher - needs to retire or move to SPL
==============
Agreed

Carrick - has been awful this season and slows down our game
==============
He needs to be replaced

Young - just shocking I've always hated him. Never been good enough
======================
Inconsistent, another squad player

Valencia - past his best and his crossing I pub league standard
====================
Shocking decline in his abilities

Nani - hardly played but when he has been pathetic
======================
That is unfair, he has hardly featured and when he has he has looked dangerous. I am also not a fan but he has it in him, the right manager will get the best out of him.

Fellaini - awful signing would not have been signed by any other manager other than Moyes at Utd.
======================
Absolute crap, he is a Stoke type of player

Hernandez - maybe hasn't played much but when he has mostly been poor and doesn't effect games when he starts.
===========
Look at his goals to games ratio, I disagree

A lot of these players have had poor seasons but a lot of it is to do with tactics and the team set up.

The only players I would like replaced or sold are Fellaini, Giggs, Fletcher, Carrick, Evra and Vidic.

The jury is out on Phil Jones as well

smalling>>jones as a cb and should be kept, but media hype jones up an op

leave: vidic, rio, giggs and maybe evra due to age young, fellani, anderson (who I like) and valencia are simply not good enough

that is 8 players already wiped out the 1st team. Beyond these, we have to thread carefully to not "unnecessarily" sell any more players at least not this summer if it can be avoided

players like degea, rafael, smalling, jones, evans, kagawa, mata, rooney(?), rvp, hernandes, welbeck, januzaj are the players we should look to retain

though an argument can also be made to sell buttner, cleverley(was decent under fergie+martinez), nani and lindergard imo they are worthy of a squad place.
With zaha,powell, jesse, henriquez, varela, wilson, keanex2 on squad fringes

We need 2 new 1st 11 cm , meaning carricks and flethers role will diminish very rapidly, selling them now or keeping them on for experience is subjective

Because he shares qualitys youd find in a player like terry butcher, will bleed for the cause and shout, british press love that type of player.

Precisely, Jones isn't afraid to get hurt but his positioning is poor and he dives in more than Rafael. Extreme lack of composure or defending intelligence.

posted on 24/4/14

I cannot fathom how some folks have come to the conclusion he can go onto be the greatest english cb or whatever, the guy struggles with the basics of defending for a start

Hmm.... Go and ask Liverpool fans how most their players looked rubbish without good management.

It keeps getting said but this team is full of champions and players who under right management could have taken giant leaps to add to them. Yes players are getting old, yes, players were unmotivated but let it be clear OUR TEAM IS NOT RUBBISH. Even valencia used rightly is a good player for us. Fecking young. Cleverley in the hands of Martinez looked like a world beater!!!

I would like to see a good manager in charge of our team. I bet you they would suddenly become a lot less rubbish.
