obstructed views deter many, if we expanded to 50,000 we would probably average 45k and sell out for the big games

There would be the novelty factor for the first season or so I think and we would sell out comfortably I think. Whilst I don't think we would sell out every game after that I would hope that we would average distinctly more than we do now, the issue of obstructed views accounts for close to 500 tickets in the ground so no surprise we under sell a lot of the time.
Build it and they will come should be our mantra.
The cynical part of me still can't help but wonder at the timing of the announcement, I just hope I'm wrong.

I think that may well be the case.
If I remember rightly, Celtic weren't filling theirs, but when they renovated it to 60k capacity, they filled it. I think it creates new demand, providing the team's doing ok.
Got to be better than Kirkby, I think that would've been a wrong move (both for the city and for the club). Never understood why room couldn't be found within the city....it always looks to me like there's quite a few brownfield sites in the north of the city, especially towards the docks (Wonder why they can’t say where...I’m curious to know!).
Why cynical about the timing?
Who wouldn't want a new ground funded by the council?
I'm sure your local team would love a new ground, paid for by Wirral council

I bet it will have a clinic or a library underneath
Its a catch 22 situation. I doubt we could sell 50, 000 for all home games. But it opens up chance for younger fans/keeping ticket prices competitive.
If this goes ahead I will be happy and sad. Goodison is a second home. But it could also attract investment.
I think we would get gates of 45k easily. You have to take into consideration quite a few things with the current stadium. There a are large number of fully and partial obstructed views at present. Also the aged stadium and barely satisfactory amenities at the ground dissuade certain people especially those with young children going. I know we're hitting record numbers of youths at the game in recent seasons but that's also down to huge efforts by the club to entice them in with really cheap tickets and season tickets.
Another point to consider is undersold away seats. Most of the time you see top not fully used. These can't be resold due to segregation reasons.
how are the council finding ANY money to put towards this "gift" of a stadium and why would they when we are having to fund our development ourselves.
with the city council cutting services left right and centre, it would be a disgrace if they were to fund a new stadium for one club in liverpool...no commercial benefit when they already have the echo arena.
Everton have people involved in the club that could finance the stadium and lease it back to them...they should be getting THEM to dip their hands in their pocket and not sponge off the council
Blah...blah....blah....blah.
Didn't someone suggest forced purchase of the housesaround Anfield...why should anyone be forced to sell. Using the system to bully the guy on your street!

you mean the people that get above market value for properties sat in a rundown area...how every horrible for them.
its hardly the same as the council stumping up £200m+ for everton to have a stadium is it?
i dont recall such funding being available for our stadium project
Were lfc not getting a european grant towards there stadium? Either way personally I think its disgraceful that any football team should have a stadium built with funding from the council/government/European funding
Where has the £200m figure come from?
Not a figure mentioned in any report so far......lots of talk about help/euro grants/regeneration etc....but not to build the thing!
Any council help in the Anfield extension and regeneration from local government?

A run down area that is run down due to underhand tactics by both Liverpool FC and Liverpool city council.
Getting third parties to buy properties then board them up causing a ghetto situation to evolve.People finding themselves increasingly becoming isolated and vulnerable due to these underhand tactics.
Yep Liverpool FC have never needed 'favours from Liverpool city council have they?

I await the usual denial and 'it's a gutter press stitch up' standard response
Wow, that doesn't paint the club or council in a good light! Not to forget that the council were also willing to allow building on Stanley Park for the ground that never was

Doesn't take for the attack Liverpool pots to appear
The proposed ground is supposed to be at Walton Hall Park isn't it?

You are an idiot, Lucas mentioned that Everton should not expect help from the council and plucked a £200m figure out of thin air....
But here in the above example we see the council forcing CPO's and allowing houses to remain boarded up and an area to become run down.
