I'd rather we didn't go top, less pressure!

Maybe, I just like the narrative while we are sat in 3rd, it's largely positive, praising our playstyle etc, which is good for the players.

When we go top that switches to can we maintain a title challenge and the weight of history weighs upon the players, inevitably the media start asking of they can deliver the first title in x years, and it becomes less building positivity and more piling pressure on the longer we were there.

Can't see us staying top from now till the end, so then when we do drop you get the inevitable rubbish about our good play and results coming to an end, and it will be demoralising.

Just how I see it, the current narrative is all very positive and I'd rather it stays that way as long as possible.

Why? Ours wasn't the best performance of The season.

Spurs v city and arsenal v Chelsea were better

He wasn't being serious about being GB.

Depends.

Where were you on he night if the 4th?

Last night I saw a comment by Vishnu where he posted like a Liverpool fan and wondered why no one else had noticed. Just seeing this thread now. Did it all blow up?

posted on 6/11/16

Didn't so much blow up, we picked up on it. He got confronted by a few United fans on another thread and he said he was actually GB, and that Vishnu was his united supporting alter ego.

Whether or not he's telling the truth about him being gb I don't know. Definitely has an account as a Liverpool fan though.

I find this a very negative way of thinking. If you're happy with the 'plucky underdog' mentality, then fine. But if you want us to be a consistent challenger then we have to get used to handling the pressure.

posted on 6/11/16

I can see what Insert is saying. Given the long wait for a title we have a different type of pressure on us.

We are expected to win titles but don't have the recent history of title winners. All the other contenders do apart from Spurs, who are not expected to win titles.

But then if we are ever going to break the duck then we will have to cope with the massive pressure in the final stretch sometime. Being top or not being top now doesn't really make any difference.

posted on 6/11/16

Yeah, if we're top now and lose it, which we almost certainly will, that must surely be better than suddenly finding ourselves top with six games to go, having not been there at all?

Our players would have to be extremely weak minded to be affected by being knocked off top spot in November!!

posted on 6/11/16

Let's just go top and the way things are we could even pull away as teams play each other. Even if we don't win it, top 4 will be more likely and I'd still be happy with that as that was the goal in the 1st place

posted on 6/11/16

The best way is probably to not be top all season until scoring a 93rd minute goal in game 38.

That's not realistic though.

To be honest I doubt we will win the title as I think it's probably too early for this team and I am not sure we will have the mentality when it comes to the crunch that others may have.

For this season though it's just nice to be involved, and hopefully that will continue to the end as it's a good experience.

We will get wummed for not winning it either way whether we are perceived to 'bottle it' and finish 2nd or 3rd or do rubbish and finish 8th.

posted on 6/11/16

It's all about top four this season, IMO. If that means being top until April and not winning the league, then so be it.

posted on 6/11/16

Actually, make that top three! Don't fancy that qualifier in pre season!

This is an honest question/statement and not an attempt to antagonise.

But the people who are supporting Mourinho and saying he's still one of the best in the word, this start isn't concerning?

If you look at his record the past 6 years, there's a pattern, solid start, peaks 1 year in, and pretty much done by year 3. Happened a couple of jobs in a row now and just seems to lose his players and has a fairly limited shelf life with teams. This thread is about blaming the player, but he's spent 150 million pounds, i think some expectations is fair. I'm not sure how you can look at your squad and say there isn't enough talent in it. Look at who you've bought in this offseason, quality is there.

Then you look at this Chelsea team and see how Conte has them performing. Surely there's a question mark about Mourinho along with the internal issues at the club?

People compare this start to klopp, but they're completely different circumstances. Klopp came in mid season, but he had as immediately progressing to his type of football. We had some shaky results, but people forget that we mailed in the league about 6 weeks in to focus on europe. Our initial league results were really encouraging.

More than anything Mou's demeanour just looks off. really feels like madrid ruined.
