Tonight was a good result for us, just like us losing to Bournemouth was for them.

We won't win fack all if we've got that attitude.

Bitters have just done us a favour and Jagielka misses the derby. Matip is going to have a battle on his hands with Lukaku though.

They'll most likely target Lovren with long balls to Lukaku to the lft channel between Milner and Lovren...because once you draw Lovren to the wide area, he's alrerady 3/4 way minced.

We're much more open than last season as well, which requires good 1v1 defenders. That's not Lovren...neither is Milner strong at this as well, but he's only been there for a few months so it's excusable somewhat.

If only Sakho sorted his chit out. Although I'll rather wait for a Gomez-Matip partnership.

We don't even know if Gomez is PL class. Had a shakey time at left back last year and has had a career changing injury. Think we need to get someone in who is ready.

For sure something has been wrong with our goalkeeping department. Either we are doing poor signings or the coaching is wanting.

Despite Klopp's backing of Achterberg, I feel he is the only factor that has remained unchanged throughout. I would replace him and see if that fixes the problem.

In any case, we shouldn't fear replacing him because our goalkeeping can't get any worse.

Achterberg wont be gone for quite a while now that klopp has had to defend him, if anything it means hes staying longer imo

I thought Achterberg joined in 2009?

Closely followed by Reina becoming worse. Could be wrong though.

Klopp defended Moreno then dropped him from the team.

I think his MO is defend everyone in public and lay into them in private.

Modus Operandi for most sensible people really.

Achterberg joined in the summer of 2009 and mamba is right in the fact that Pepe started to go down hill after that and we've not had a decent keeper since!

I had issues with Achterberg back in the Brad Friedel days. How long has he been our goalkeeping coach? The fact we seem to have only had one keeper that was absolute top class for a few seasons, and no keepers seem to have improved under him is a concern.

Achterberg was playing for Tranmere when we had Friedel. Unless you're implying that Achterberg was sending poor goalkeeping vibes across the Mersey?

Kolo, he was reserve/youth team coach for a couple of years first though so to blame him for Reina's decline is silly.

Became goal keeping coach in 2011!

Season before I think Reina drew with Cech in the golden gloves!

Simple fact is since Achterberg was appointed in 2011 we've had a good goal keeper go bad and the one brought in to replace him has looked nothing short of unreliable and shown no improvement. The one then brought in to compete with him seems to be repeating the same mistakes.

Karius is a young keeper and needs time but having a goal keeping coach with better pedigree would help him.

I don't think this necessarily helps his case. We didn't produce any keepers of note (yet) and our first team goalkeeping has been a joke since he was promoted.

Could be coincidence or not.

Add in the fact that he's only 45 but he looks old beyond his years and as I sit in the kop, I get to see the keepers warm up every home game.

He struggles to run properly and looks like he's got mobility problems!
