If you want to do well you have to get good players, to get good players you have to pay good wages!

England squad left for Miami today.

Will we sign Lallana before the world cup? Looking unlikely right now.

Also starting to think £25m for him is far too much for him.

Konoplyanka is available for just £12m apparently. Fabregas going for £30m. Shaqiri for less than £20m you'd imagine.

Not saying these players for definite but just examples we have to walk away at some point from negotiations as the money could be better used.

Looks completely made up to me. Also Liverpool prepared to offer players in exchange? Like who? The only player Bayern would take is Suarez and he's worth far more than Ribery.

So the Times (Tony Barrett) and Echo ( James Pearce) are saying that the move for Lallana is off. Southampton are refusing to drop their absurd £30m asking price for Lallana and we will instead shift focus to other targets.

Has to be the right move, £25m as it is way too much.

Lallanas lost. Only way this move can happen now is if he forces it. Personally I think we will dodge a bullet by not signing him..

My Dad has just come home and told me that a bloke at work reckons Real have put in a bid for Suarez. Anyone got a line on that, or is it just utter sheight?

I just think that spending £30m on Lallana, or £12m on Konopylanka is an absolute no brainer, has to be the latter.

Yea, I said it's probably the lawyer story, but I do't really follow twitter, so I was wondering if anything had popped up on there.

Suarez ain't going anywhere...

Lallana is a very difficult one.. the opportunity cost of the resources being spent elsewhere as well as the time taken to do another deal has to be taken into account.

It's not really that difficult. Every transfer target will have its maximum price. Once that price is reached, the club will say thanks, but no thanks, and move onto the next target in their list.

The thought that we've spent 'x' amount of time and money pursuing a target, so may as well pay a bit more (which I think is what you're saying??) is totally wrong IMO. Otherwise, selling clubs would drag out every transfer as long as possible and then increase the price at the end.....

Where are people getting that the Lallana deal is gone?

I can't see anything confirming it from the journo's named.

What I'm saying is if the increase in price restricts further spending that increase amounts to more than just the basic cost, in that, the opportunity to improve other areas of the squad is gone.
This has to be taken into account.

Also if the time taken to do a deal drags on, that in itself is a further cost to the club and must be taken into account too.

Thereby the club needs to set the limit on price as well as amount of time to conclude the deal.

Pretty sure Lallana will go Liverpool.

Hope for Southamptons sake he is their only other departure after Lambert otherwise could get a bit messy.

Think £25m is slightly too much, ability wise, but it's far from money wasted, a good signing overall.

There's always Fabregas if Lallaba doesn't come

posted on 2/6/14

I read a good article yesterday explaining that all the people saying we should just buy Fabregas are missing the point.

It's not transfer fee that matters it's the total package of fee and wages.

For the price of Fabregas we should be able to buy Lallana and Can, one very good player and one potentially top class player for the price of a player who doesn't even suit our style of play.

We won't be touching Fabregas.

We may or may not move on from Lallana, but if we do it will be for someone of similar package price (approx £45m over 5 years). Not for someone who will cost £70m over 5 years.
