I don't think Fabinho, Keita & Ox is attack heavy. In fact I think it has everything apart from the panache you'd associate with someone like a David Silva or Xabi Alonso or Fabregas.

For our tactics though, it looks our best midfield.

Pfft. Shaq-Keita-Ox vs. the minnows. Lallana can partner VVD to give us extra Cruyff turns in defence.

How did Lallana play in the holding role the other day?

I'd argue that tbh. City's midfield look to recycle possession and control the game from that point of view. Although we are a possession team, it's not to the extent of City and Keita/Ox would look to drive forward more regularly and we'd turn over the ball more regularly.

I think our transition through midfield is much quicker and our midfield are, at times, there as a platform for the front 3 to perform. Klopp seems to encourage our forwards to take risks in order to create, with 2 midfielders looking to join the attack I think we'd be horribly exposed if we turned over the ball.

I would always want to see a ACM in our team and I think a midfield of Fab, Milner, Wij, Henderson (3 of 4) is too conservative, albeit Henderson was more attacking towards the end of the season, but I'd be surprised if the vast majority of games didn't have 2 or those 4 in to give a more solid base.

Ox has a got a fair way to come I reckon before he's ahead of Wij and Henderson.

Very different players to be fair.

Keita is not this attacking midfielder some like to think he is. He can drive forward from deep, yes but he not an attacking midfielder imo. It's the reason why he took so long to settle imo. Klopp tried to turn him into something he's not.

Once he allowed him to start deeper and let Hendo press from the front, Keita started putting in better performances.

It's because those are the positions he's played most regularly for RB and for us. He played as a forward/winger for RB at times and even with us he's filled in for the front 3 (I use the term filled in because it's not his position obviously) - it indicates an attacking skillset and mindset. He regularly carries the ball and whilst there are box to box midfielders who carry the ball like he does, they need to be at the attacking end of the spectrum.

He might be able to do more than just ACM but he's definitely a more attacking B2B than, say, Henderson; I think that's the important point.

Its about skill sets really and his is such that he could play many positions. Only thing Keita was getting wrong was hanging onto the ball too long and just a bit off with his decision making in general. Its like his fourth league in five years though so I get that.

He also doesnt like being kicked.

Id he can reach his potential this season though we'll be one of the strongest midfields in Europe.

Main point is we're stronger going into this season than we were ;last season, and that didn't pan out too badly

Yes I'ld love a top quality forward as back up to the front 3 however it is what it is

Hope he has a season without all these little niggling injuries, so he settles!

Agree. Felt like the game was a bit too quick for him at times last year, he didn't have the time he was perhaps used to. Same could be said of Fab in the early days though, he just adapted quicker.

I think the being kicked thing may well be a manifestation of general frustration.

I do have quite a lot of faith in Naby developing and becoming a big player for us though. That said, the 3 previous players I've referenced in my user name have been Sterling, Ibe and Emre Can - so perhaps he'll be gone by this time next year

It seemed at times like teams were targeting Keita with some rough challenges. Might be also due to his play style where he likes to take players on and dribble past them.

And the fact that he was sent off an awful lot at RB.

Trying to get a reaction.
