Klopp has made Liverpool the set-piece kings of the Premier League with the help of the expert analysis and planning of assistants Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, who pinpoint weaknesses to exploit.
_____
Imagine how many we'd score if we didnt fail to hit the first defender 9/10
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't fail to hit the first defender 9/10. This is why we have such a great set piece record.
People expect too much from set pieces. Set pieces are taken when defences are set to defend them, that's why statistically you have a low chance of scoring form them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree, it feels like we fail to beat the first defender that much. I dont expect us to score from every corner but i expect us to beat the first defender almost all of the time. And if front post flick ons at the near post whilst we have giant CBs is the preferred option atleast win the facking win the ball near post. I’d say near post corners probably amount to 1% of our set piece goals yet its as if its our preferred tactic on them.
We score so many from them since we have such gd threats at them imo. Delivery and routines are pretty average to poor overall from what ive seen.

Yes - it feels like that as you expect too much from them. I've explained this to you before.
Whipping in corners at 60 - 70 mph is hard.
If you just float them in it's easy to defend so you have to absolutely bang them in. It's a difficult technique end of.

Right so we have the best record at set pieces and you think we're setting up for them wrongly?
Its not that i expect too much i just think we can do a lot better with the threats we have on set pieces and the dead ball specialists etc all this yes despite leading the stats in the league on them.
I don't get that. I mean I get you want more but it seems a bit unreasonable.
By a lot better im not just referring to goals either im on about overall threat at them. Beating the first man more often would naturally improve this.
3% of corners lead to a goal. There's probably 10 corners per game and 380(?) games in a season? So there are 3800 corners in a season. 114 of those corners result in a goal.
In fact Liverpool have had 154 corners. Therefore you'd expect only 5 goals, according to above figures.
Now consider this, what is a great corner? You meant answer one we scored from, which is what I would answer to annoy you if you asked but really a good corner is usually a precise one, which just about misses the first man, in order for a head to get on it. If it is more than 'just about' missing the first man, it is likely to be difficult to score from it.
You can put in a perfect corner but it gets defended, since there is another team to consider in this. The first man thing frustrates many people but as I said above, hitting the first man is often close to perfection.
Years ago you didn't have to try this method as you just lofted the ball in and players were able to pull, push, grapple and put pressure on the keeper, increasing your chances. This doesn't happen anymore.
Liverpool are excellent with set pieces and it gives us an advantage.

Yeah this is reasonable I think
I get all that, still doesnt change my opinion i think we can do better on them. Theres a reason you see our very own cbs frustrated by them too. They expect better aswell.

Also i think guys like vvd and matip would prefer a lofted high ball a lot of the time might not score directly from them as its harder to generate power or whatever but they can cause problems from them. Give them something to fight for as opposed to cut out near post instantly.
So we've the wrong person on corners half the time, we're not delivering them as well as we should or in the right areas or at the right height and our defenders are not happy with that...... but we keep doing it?
"Corner taken quickly, ORIGIIIII"
I think 'not beating the first man' is a little football nugget in the psyche like the 'keeper being beaten at the near post'
Someone corrected me on that latter point in here and it's stuck with me

Im not going into that much detail, often im watching questioning our set piece routine choice taker choice delivery quality yes. And as i said often left thinking we can do better.
As i said its my opinion, im no football expert, just a fan with an opinion.
Yeah fair enough, wasn't trying to have a pop.
Rookie mistake not having your UEFA A-level coaching license before taking on TOOR and Hoody.
