No surprise that every CB who plays next to Trent looks bad. Trent needs to move to midfield now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is literally begging to not play right back. There was one moment he was our number 9 in the first half. This is some pretty reckless Klopp tactics.

He cant be our number 2, 6, 8, 10 and 9.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree about the positions he is taking up.

His form is awful and I feel he needs to get back to basics. Teams are exposing our right side because a lot of times Trent has taken up a strange position and sadly hasn't the motivation to get back into position, or because of where he is can't.

Last season he moved into the right side midfield to play a pass and Henderson covered. This season he's been more erratic. He must know he playing poorly and is over committing when we attack. Personally I would drop him for.a few games and take him out the firing line. We desperately need a more solid structure defensively as we are all over the place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

AMm I the only one who thinks this is on Klopp?

I mean I presume Klopp is at least letting him just run around Anfield, if not telling him.

If he is playing right back then he should be at right back imo. Reece James gets goals and assists and I don't see him playing at 8 on the left hand side of the pitch.

I feel Trent is being chucked under a bus a bit. He also looks to have bulked up at the cost of some cardio.

Said it before he can defend he shows it most matches bits of good defending, my issue with him is attitude/effort for defending and getting back is way below his attitude/effort when attacking. His confidence is clearly knocked. Klopp having to back him after the England stuff says it all on that front.

I agree with both parts - Klopp getting an easy drive and the tyre marks on Trent.

What I don’t understand is why. We sign a proper number 9 who has height and is good in the air, and we arguably have the best crosser of the ball in the league. Logic says he should be showing more discipline this year not less!

also ppl blaming trent who won the first header and ignoring the fact hendo was ridiculously weak and completely missed a simple clearance before trent got rinsed again doesnt help...

Liverpool pressures in the final third per 90 minutes:

Premier League 21/22
44.8 1st

Premier League 22/23
32.8 11TH

The tactics are still the same. We still play with a front three with the fullbacks higher up the pitch and the wide midfielders forming a triangle shape with the fullbacks and wingers. Our problem is the lack of sprint pressing from the front players and midfielders. The intensity to shut down passing options isn't there this season to compensate for Trent defensive frailties. This leads to big distances between our centre backs as Matip, Gomez or Konate have to cover for Trent. The age of the players is also an issue. Real Madrid have also an ageing midfield but they have solved this with playing a low block.

I would ditch the 235 setup as the workrate isn't there to cover for Trent. We need a new different setup to hide Trent weakness or change his position.

Second goal, okay yeah Trent has lost possession (fairly difficult take though in some ways) but it should be noted in fvcking midfield yet again and now it's two on one against him. Well you will get turned over but who is helping him? No-one.

Their third goal where a man can just run unchecked behind Trent to then go one on one against Matip who gets his cross in and Trossard is all alone at the back post.

It happens all over the pitch.

There's too many one on one situations throughout our team full stop and all partnerships in the side seem to have gone out of the window.

Agree about the pressures.

Has anyone seen the running stats? I always struggle to find them if anyone can bring them up but I bet we're running about 2km less a game or something.

I know I keep banging on about it but we really don't look that fit compared to our peers.

But is it low running due to attitude or not being fit enough? That's a genuine question because I just don't know anymore.

I find it hard to believe that as a collective all their attitudes have just become poor though.

Does anyone have the distance covered stats? I can't seem to find them.

You can blame me for yesterday…. I stuck 20 quid on you to come back and win at 2-1

My betting record sucks

Had cash out at 3-2 for pretty much the whole amount I’d have won anyway but thought nah you won’t fack this so let it run!

I watched the game and was shocked at how bad TAA was …..what’s happened to him?!

Obviously high workrate helps to force mistakes in the final third and also as a defensive tactic but you need quality players in possession who don't give the ball away otherwise you have to run unnecessary.

The manager fault is not getting the right profile midfielders to play his energy style of football. Caicedo would be a terrific signing for us. He was everywhere yesterday. He looks like a Gini kind of player.

You need a subscription regarding the running stats. Skill Corner is one of those companies who also works with Liverpool. There are numerous video analysis software where you can record games and track players and acquire those information.

I think it's a bit of a leap to say that he has not brought in the right kind of players for his style considering everything he has achieved with the players that he has signed to work in that style.

posted on 2/10/22

I'm talking about this season.
He achieved those results with Gini and a prime Hendo in midfield who were high energy players. One has left on a free and the other is older and isn't the same player because of injuries.
Those two need to be replaced with the same quality.

I'm hoping regular games can kick start us. We now have no choice, no time for new radical tactics. Just game after game which is what we are used to. We literally have gone bad overnight so it should not take much to rekindle that form.

Klopp has to do better with the subs. It's like he wanted 5 so much that he's making token subs for the sake of it and each time it kills our momentum

Another half time fire drill at Old Trafford.

Double pivot in midfield, underlapping fullbacks and as a result wide players providing the width. Just some of the subtle changes that's totally changed the dynamic of the team for the worse.

We dominate possession but not for the same reasons say a City side will dominate possession and I feel like the tactics we're trying this season is for a side that wants to hold possession of the football for extremely long periods of time but that doesn't suit the profile of the team or our players imo. We're more about pace, power and stifling the opposition through our press or counter press.

It's no surprise we only start to dominate when the opposition drop off after taking the lead.

Hopefully we find the balance soon but it's going to be a long season imo

-------------
He seems to be making subs based entirely on the medical advice like how he keeps subbing certain players at 60 minutes.

I get it with the congested season, but I also don't see the point in making sure players are fully fit for the next game if we're not actually winning.

Against Everton and Brighton those 60 minute subs made us worse.

A lot of noise saying Pep is getting more and more influential in the team and a lot of the stuff we're trying this season is down to him.

Obviously all soundbites but interesting nonetheless. He's been influential to our success and thus earned the respect and opportunity to instill more of his ideas.

Hendo coming back from injury i can understand but Milner for Kostas was just ridiculous.

Anybody else think Rangers might get a result? They will be right up for it from minute one, which we seem to struggle against.

Tbf we've lost two games all season while being absolutely gash.

I did like the way we fought back against Bournemouth to go 3-2 up and it clearly isn't the first time we have had to come back from one or two down so I don't really have any questions about attitudes.

We looked absolutely gassed in the final 20 though and again the subs killed the momentum imo.

But I fancy Nunez to grab a couple tomorrow.

Tbh, I'm not all that worried anyway. As somebody said elsewhere on the forum we're probably due a bad season, I felt last year the squad achieved the absolute maximum they were capable of and considering City are now playing PL games on cheat mode with Haaland, the title was never a realistic goal anyway.

A top 4 finish, decent CL run and a chance to refresh and revamp areas of the squad would be great.

I do feel like we needed to change the squad around a lot more than we did, just to get a fresh injection of enthusiasm, that seems to be lacking this year. You can see from how Diaz performs what that desire gives you. He's one of the only ones showing it.

Hopefully this is the start of the transition which I think might be a touch overdue.
