If we're looking to blame something on last night, then you're probably looking at the midfield first.

But we played away against a team that was in better form than Newcastle.

Just take the draw and 7 points clears of our most likely challenger.

When Salah scores or assists, which he does with ridiculous regularity, he's lauded for his output, his ability to change games in a moment and for taking responsibility.

When it doesn't come off then he's criticised for being too selfish or not being a team player.

As far as I'm concerned you've got to take the rough with the smooth; some games it's not going to work for him.

But the balance, it's overwhelming in the positive. And that's why he'll keep playing every minute of very game - because his head never drops. He'll keep trying to change the game, to take the shots, the try the passes or runs, to do the unexpected. Even if he was having an absolute stinker, I would never take Salah off unless injured. Simply because he's the most likely source of a goal.

If that 35 year old had scored 18 goals and 13 assists in 20 games then yeah. His age is only a factor when his game and performances change. And I don't mean a specific game, but his ability to have 'moments'.

As long as the output remains, he remains on the pitch imo.

True but everybody is unique in terms of their physiology. Rather than predict when he'll decline, I'd prefer to judge by what I see. And what we see right now is the best output (G&A) in Europe.

We might offer him a new contract and see a Fabinho'esk drop in performance. It's possible. But such are Salah's numbers that it's a completely acceptable risk imo.
