Not to mention Pochettino is one of the front runners for the Spurs job too.
Nature of the beast I'm afraid.
I'd forgotten about Pochettino. He will be difficult to replace IMO as he has got Southampton playing superb football & really utilises their players well.
Nah, they'll get a tidy sum for both players, as a club they're just further down the food chain than us
Truth is though, they have no need to sell, their owners are extremely wealthy, their club is in good health (apart from £20m odd in transfer fees owed) and the players being mentioned are in fairly long contracts.
Players have more power these days but if Saints simply refuse any bids what can anyone do? Spurs are a good example of not selling when they didn't have to with Chelsea wanting Modric, they only sold when they received huge offers.
If they are not prepared to move to the next level i.e challenge for Europe then there best players will naturally want to move.
I hope so too.
I like Saints and admire the way that Pochettino has got them playing.
I was miffed when they sacked Adkins and put him in charge but that decision has been truly justified as Southampton have been a real breath of fresh air under Mauricio.
I think they will use some of the money to reinvest in signings and promote some players from their fantastic academy
Pochettino should steer far away from the egomaniacal Levy and his team.
A complete and utter clown who'll boot him in the first sign of trouble.
James Ward-Prowse will be one to watch out for I reckon.
Great on Football Manager
Isn't their owner about to sell up?
I'm not sure they're that financially secure. It'll be interesting to see how they go about replacing these players. They've been pretty crap in the market since they've reached the prem.
Darren. You sure about that?!?!
I thought Osvaldo was a very poor buy but Wanyama and Lovren were excellent signings I think. Especially Lovren.
On their return to the top flight, they also bought Jay Rodriguez, Steven Davis, Nathaniel Clyne and signed Boruc on a free transfer.
I'm surprised you feel that they have performed badly in the transfer market when in actual fact they have done some shrewd business. Osvaldo has been the only stinker but they will be able to move him on.
Darren
Speaking to Saint fans today it sounded like they are. Like I said they owe around £20m in transfer fees but their owner in very wealthy. I don't think the owner has any immediate plans to sell, more that she is assessing everything, sounds like her father cared a lot for the club and was a massive success, nothing yet to suggest she wants to sell. Many Saints fans felt this summer is a big moment for the club, they're playing well but to take it to the next level they need to keep the players they have and build on it.
But money talks so they may sell even though they don't need to.
They have also bought very well the past 2 seasons apart from their 2 bigger signing in Osvaldo and Ramirez.
1982, ah ok I wasn't that sure.
Marlo, to be honest I think Rodrigues and Lovren have been the only really good signings.
I'll admit I don't watch them every game, so it's hard to judge them all, but I think they're more than the sum of their parts and have a few really good players rather than being full of good players.
Good side, but I think they're massively overhyped. They have a better squad than Newcastle, who have been terrible, but only finished a few points above them.
If their owner is about to sell they'll dig in their heels about 8 feet deep over price
I think Lovren would be a good replacement for Vidic. Right age and plenty of experience internationally. He's really impressed me this year.
Clyne and Wanyama have been great buys too IMO, wish we had gone for Clyne last season. I was sceptical as to how well Wanyama would do in the PL but by all accounts he's been excellent, a more withdrawn role than his Celtic days but compliments Schneiderlin very well.
Davis, Boruc and Yoshida have also been very useful buys. The strange one is Mayuka, so much hype before he joined but he's nothing nothing.
I normally agree with pretty much everything you say Darren, easily one of my favourite posters and always think you have it spot on but I vehemently disagree with that mate.
I think Davis has been worth the 880k they paid for him. An industrious midfielder who never lets the side down.
Clyne for 2.8 million, a real snip and has established himself as one of the best right backs in the league.
Boruc on a free, how can you slate that he's been solid for them.
Lovren signing speaks for itself and Rodriguez is easily worth double the 7 million that Saints pay for him.
Pochettino has built on the groundwork that Adkins put in place and I admire how they produce some fantastic young players. They play better football than us and I think they have been one of the hardest teams to play against.
They are getting the credit they deserve, but fair play Darren if you think they are overrated
I'll be surprised if Lallana [Liverpool], Shaw [Manchester United] and Rodriguez [Arsenal/Tottenham perhaps?] will be their next season.
I highly doubt they will keep them Dark but its a testament to how good the coaching set up is at Saints. They mould some tidy players and will have made a handsome profit on all 3 if they were to sell.
I'm sure they would reinvest well too.
But the point is Saints have absolutely no need to sell. IF they do then I can't see them selling more than 1 or 2 at the most.
All depends where the club want to go, do they want to try and build on what they have or sell big and try and bring in new cheaper recruitments?

I think as good as they are, it will be really tough to usurp the teams that finished above them this season.
I think Luke Shaw and Lallana will be the two to leave. I don't see them selling any more key players.
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on the signings. As I said, I don't watch every game so I'll acknowledge my ignorance on a lot of their players.
Don't get me wrong, though, I think they're a good side. I just don't think they're quite as good as people make out.
Will be interesting to see how they do in the window. Lallana and Shaw are important players from what I've seen and they'll be hard to replace.
We should give them Buttner for a laugh and Young.
Didn't realize Lovren was still relatively young (24).
Could be another option from the saints.

Well,Buttner was close to agreeing a move to Southampton in 2012/13.
Hopefully they're still interested
Garay, Shaw, Carvalho & Pjanic would do me fine
