My condolences to the family.

Who owns United now?

posted on 28/5/14

I agree, I think they have been very good owners. Always backed us financially whenever needed, and will probably still do the same this summer.

Mauricio's smile, his sons, Joel and Avram, are already co-chairmen of the club.

Marlo - I might be alone in thinking they are very good owners.

You certainly arent alone in fact me then Melton already said something very similar on the Glazer thread

We needed the glazers to fix our problems in this window.

No, thats what we have a board and vice chairman / chief exec for.

Fair enough Red.

Maybe could of worded it better because there will obviously be people who share the same opinion as me.

I haven't read the whole thread, it was the negative comments that stood out the most for me.

The only problem with the leveraged buy out was that I wasn't able to do it myself! This is the problem with the Glazer detractors, they can't abide seeing others succeed!

Although the debt is bad, and I am not keen on them because of that, you really can't fault them otherwise.

Agree Vidicschin.

My thing is, you don't even hear it mentioned. They are behind the scenes securing business opportunities, seemingly expanding our brand to whole new levels.

Like I said in my op, the debt is bad for NOW of course it is, but they are putting things into place that are expanding the club and making it more profitable that will benefit us for many years.

We all know that the debt is bad, of course.

However, under them it's been probably the most successful period in our history. Their debt has just stopped us being more successful, arguably - which I think is still ridiculous anyway.

Whether that is because of them or in spite of them is up for debate, but at the same the hike in ticket prices could have happened of a result of our growing brand and success.

Just as their work on the commercial side may be a bi-product of being associated with United, we don't know.

This is why I don't think that this man deserves any hate in his death, love him or loathe him, and there are not many that choose the former. It's just respect.

Darren.

Thats a fair summary

You don't have to submit a poem or write him a heart felt message but if you have any ill feeling, there really is no need to disrespect him with vitriol.

Its a subject that will always divide opinion. I always thought that the majority of our fans despised them but from my viewpoint, they haven't really offended me nor bothered me much at all.

I'd take the Glazers over a sugar daddy any day!

I do think naturally we would of grown as a club and a business but they have helped accelerate the process despite buying the club with borrowed money.

It just annoys me when there is this shortsighted view from some of our fans who ignore the good they have done and are doing and they prefer to jump on the easy bandwagon and hate them when in reality they have done quite a lot of positive things for the club.

That wasn't aimed at you by the way Darren mate

Marlo

I'm apathetic to the ownership because I think a lot of it has been down to the progression of the money that football has been making, particularly United, in the last few years and I do think a lot of that at United has been down to Fergie's success on the pitch.

So all the pros and cons at this club are linked with him, and therefore, we cannot have a definitive answer whether or not things would have been better off or not without the Glazers - I'm acknowledging my own ignorance so from that perspective I don't understand the hate and disdain.

I've heard that the supporters of the Tampa bay buccaneers have been upset with the glazers as they think they've been taking money out of the Bucs to put into Man Utd

Crazy thing is that although this leveraged but out is common knowledge over in the UK, in Tampa they don't know about it and have that incorrect assumption.

This, what cracks me up is that people tthink if we were a plc, the money would stay with the club. It will go into the pockets of shareholders.

Arsenal fans can attest to this.

RIP Malcolm Glazer, I protestetd the takeover but when it was completed, I shut up and focused on supporting my team.

The debt is only like a normal person remortgaging their house!!!!

Say you earn £35,000 per year
You own a house worth £200,000 with no mortgage
You borrow £30,000 against the house for improvements
So long as you are earning, you will eventually pay off the loan in a few years. In the meantime, the house will grow in value and be worth more than when you borrowed.

That's what they have done at Man Utd, but because the figures are astronomical, everyone bleats on and on about the debt, when in effect its nothing to worry about. Fact is the debt has halved in 10 years, so in another 10 years time, it could be argued the debt will be paid off, and the club would be worth 4 or 5 times as much as when they took over!

Exactly. Thousands of business takeovers are done in this manner every year. Phillip Green raised £11bn in loans in his (ultimately failed) attempt to takeover M&S in the early 00's. And his acquisition of Arcadia was a multi-billion pound "loan".

Yep, but only recently had a photo opportunity with our own CL cup was nice.

I guess the anticipation of a lack of 2014/15 CL revenue to help fund a lavish lifestyle / shopping mall development can't have helped with stress levels either.
