Jokespurs and "big" in one sentence... I'm out. Not worthy of discussion.

Depends if you mean in recent years or long term. Villa should definitely at least be higher than Newcastle for me, perhaps even 5th if you're looking across several decades.

I think it is. In my eyes they do see themselves as bigger than they are, where would you put them in that table?

Jordan Henderson - I'm taking it all into consideration but putting emphasis on recent success. For example, Southampton coming above Sheffield Wednesday is a controversial one.

Villa should be higher

If its long term city wouldn't even make the top 10. If its recent (last 5 years) they'd be top

1 title and 1 FA Cup since 1920, though. Undoubtedly huge in the '80s, who would they replace though?

A fair point, I haven't thought this through

Can i ask how Sunderland are below Leeds when they won more League Titles, more FA Cups, have a bigger Stadium, bigger attendances...

Arsenal should be further down because they don't win trophies.

This is probably one of my least favourite topics of discussion on JA, given how relentlessly subjective the definition of a "big club" is.

I might agree with the top 4 or so on that list. The rest are just too complicated to call. United above Liverpool for revenue and current success.

1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. San Francisco 49ers
4. Green Bay Packers
5. New York Giants

IMHO Newcastle & Wham should be lower, Villa probably should be slightly higher (European Cup Winners)

Most Super Bowl victories:

1. Steelers (6)
2. 49ers (5)
3. Cowboys (5)

Yeah no way GB are first tbf.

Go back to pre-Superbowl era. Dallas and 49ers didn't exist until the 1960's.

Steelers maybe, no way '9ers. Team of the '80's no doubt but before and after?

posted on 29/5/14

Fair enough, I'm only considering the Superbowl era so you are probably right with that.

Lombardi's Packers dominated the NFL Championship for a decade then won the first 2 Superbowls.

I'd go Steelers in the Superbowl era

posted on 29/5/14

Can't really go against them in that era because of number of wins I guess, cant say I particularly like them mind!

Just to weigh in on the American football discussion, yeah, the biggest club in football is the Packers. Barring a 20 year period between Lombardi leaving and the rise of Favre/Holmgren, this is a club that have been relevant at pretty much every point in the history of the game, with a tradition and a legacy that stems back to the game's genesis. Players and names like Don Hutson, Curly Lambeau, Vince Lombardi that have revolutionised and transcended the sport, an aura that no other ball club in the sport carries, from a town built almost exclusively on the power and brand recognition of their Packers.

The Cowboys have more flash and te Steelers have more superbowls, but football didn't begin with the superbowl and the Pack have both beat in terms of legacy, tradition, overall titles and relevance in the game over its entirety.
