1994 Worst.

1990 Best, made better as i was a young carefree twenty year old that had not long ago discovered beer and women.

Germany out in the group stage?

Yeah the Dutch could. Be it wouldn't be as big a shock as when France and Argentina and France and Italy went out.

Many have pinpointed '94 as being the worst, and that was also the last one with extreme heat. Any fears that the same conditions could affect the tournament this year, particularly those games in Manaus and Cuiaba?

94 was a cracker, with a dull final.

Romania v Argentina, Romania v Sweden, Netherlands v Brazil, Italy v Nigeria, Bulgeria v Germany, Italy v Spain, Italy v Bulgaria. All great games, and that is just the knockouts.

Cameroon made 1990 special and memorable.

I think South Africa was made worse by that stupid Jabulani Ball as well, pretty much the only one who worked out how to hit it properly was Forlan I remember. Some of the shots and mishits were hilarious in that tournament.

94 and 2002 were the worst for me. 2006 and 2010 were similar in a way.

I990 World Cup was awful. I was less than a year old at the time but I caught the replays of the knockout and some group games. Just terrible. '94 was boring as fack too. Both are far worse than the 2010 WC. European hosted WC's tend to bring out the best in most teams. Night matches also somehow look more entertaining and dramatic than afternoon kick-offs and the European tourneys see more night games.

What an idiotic comment.

I can see from this article that different people have different criteria for what makes a good tournament. Some have said they hated '94; D'Jeezus has said it's one of his favourites. A few people have identified 2002 as one of the worst, but I quite liked it for the number of shock results from the likes of Senegal, South Korea and Turkey. But hey, it would be dull if we all agreed.

RR, very true.

I enjoyed 2002 infact probably the last WC England played well, still think they could of beat Brazil looking back.

Japanese fans were brilliant aswell.

Is anyone on here old enough to remember the 1980's tournaments?

Spain 82 was a good one, i was only 12 but as i was just getting into football i remember it reasonably well.

1996 was probably my favourite because I went to all the games apart from one, people often overlook how hot it was in Germany at the time.

1990 was another favourite as it was the last time we had a serious chance of winning it.

1994 was just boring to me because of the lack of England participation and the fact everyone became Irish for 2 weeks.

I remember 86, well parts of it as was only 6 and had to go to bed
Was a quality tournament, the bits I remember anyway.

Shock results aren't as important for me except there's some really good football. Just want to see some free-flowing stuff.

98 was probably the best.

Trying to think of the last good final. The last five have been pretty boring.

The biggest excitement from 1994 was Aldridge kicking off on the touchline.

2010 had some memories
Heskey getting into the squad, only to fall on our captain's leg and send him him injured. Emile just couldn't get a break
Suarez vs Ghana
England goal line
Tshabalaba's goal
De Jong's kick

Really? Not Romania and Argentina's thrill a minute 3-2 classic, or Brazil scrapping past the Netherlands by the same score? Or Bulgaria shocking the world with their brilliant win over Germany? Or Italy's last ditch saving goal against an impressive Nigeria?

There were loads of classic matches in 94, seems people just watch World Cups for England

2006 had some good moments as well, to be fair. Zidane and Materazzi in the final.

Graham Poll's shambles with the three yellow cards. Rooney being sent off and Ronaldo winking at him.

Maxi Lopez, Joe Cole and Argentina with some incredible goals.

To be fair i was on a lads holiday in Turkey for two weeks and the tournament got less memorable as it went on.

What?! 2006 was a shît final. Boring game that is only remembered for Zidane and Materazzi.

98 was just domination by the French. Hardly an exciting final. Unless you're French.

86 was the last truly great final.
