France 98 was great, 2002 was decent but a tad uneventful, 2006 was a good tournament, 2010 was rubbish. I think Brazil 14 could be great though
I also think the final this year will be contested by Germany and Brazil. Spain to get knocked out in semis
If Brazil and Germany both win their groups, they would contest the first Semi-Final
sorry if that disappoints you

I still have an issue with Zidanr being sent off in that game to be honest.

2010 was better than 2006. At least 2010 had a few surprises like Italy and France going out early doors. 2006 was pretty much predictable, dominated by all the big teams and with barely a memorable moment to speak of.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart from an unfancied French side getting to the final beating Brazil on the way, the Zidane headbutt, and a lot of amazing goals including that brilliant team goal by Argentina
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying 2006 was terrible, but I just consider it largely forgettable. 2010 wasn't exactly good, but I think it gets unfairly panned and actually had more memorable moments: Italy finishing bottom of a weak group, the French collapse, England's controversial elimination, the drama of Uruguay-Ghana, and of course we also had a new winner with Spain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The football in general was terrible tho, cant think of one side that excited me.
My favourite moment was before the England Germany game when Lineker, Shearer and Hansen all dismissed the young Germans because they "Had never heard of half of them" their faces at full time were a peach
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am hoping this time around it will be other foreign pundits turn when speaking about this young England team
I can remember the FA cup in 1953 when Matthews played a blinder
TRC,
Because it was done by the fourth official, I disagree wih FIFAs chain of events.
I had an operation on a tendon in my leg and was off work for the whole of the last World Cup.
My boss wasn't happy, but with a surgeons letter explaining it there wasn't anything he could do.
Facking vuvuzelas ruined it for me

The times for 2002 were ok for me- finish a night shift, then straight down the boozer until lunchtime!
2002 times were class. Pubs opening at 5:30am
Puking in the garden at 8:00 am after the Brasil game
Lived up to your name then!

I thort vuvuzelas were best thing about wc 2010.
worst wc was 2002 as games were on at stoopid times (even more stoopid than normal that is).
Best wc was 1934.

Why better than 1938? more/less fascistic?

That was a stay awake drinking all night until kick off kinda day. I think we went clubbing. I can't remember. My head hurts.
im sure he was joking about 1934 being the best, it was probably the worst.1950 was hilariously organised though...
1970 had some great football, not just a truly amazing Brazil side, but England played a truly great game against them in the group stages, with 2 of the most seen highlights I guess (Moore taking the ball cleanly in the area and Banks' save), Germany beating England in the 1/4's by sheer willpower, an amazing goal poaching Gerd Muller helping them, Pele almost scoring from halfway and a great exhibition of flair beating 'solid' defence by a hatful in the final.
78 as a spectacle, Luque and Kempes, the crowds etc, even though the military were pulling the strings in the place, was amazing.
74 pretty boring apart from a great Dutch team who should have been crowned champions.
I was joking too. just wanted to know why 34 would be better than 38. They won 'em both!
The bl oody vuvuzelas even reached Brazil last time, GRRRRRRRRR. Walking down the street was an absolute pain in the butt!

Peter The Cat helped them quite a lot too
1934 didn't have any Group Stages so it was poor insofar as teams were expected to make huge journeys to play one game and get thrashed and go home.
1954 in my opinion was an outstanding world cup. An absolute explosion of goals. Scotlands debut ofcourse but the first time England really flexed their muscles, after the debacle of 1950. That 4-4 draw with Belgium, that incredible quarter-final between hosts Switzerland and neighbours Austria, where the Swiss burst into a 3-0 lead only to be 5-4 down by half-time , eventually losing 5-7.
And then there were the great Magical Magyars. Still think there was something amiss that they didn't win the Final. 2-0 up inside 8 minutes having destroyed everything in their path up til that point. Really think 1954 is quite underrated, just so long ago that people have either forgotten or they don't think it counts as much as the ones in colour TV

I loved 1994 - some great matches but a disappointing final. 2010 was the worst I've seen and I think the ball must have had something to do with this.
Euro 2000 and 2008 were probably better, in terms of sheer quality, than any World Cup in my memory.
Drink Little
As did Jack Charlton from my fading memory, not exactly Mr Mobile, though clearly later an inspirational manager to Ireland.

Bom dia, Bomdia Are you gonna provide daily updates from Brasil? I was thinking of going but my friends in Salvador said don't waste your money it's gonna suck. Not the football, the social conditions. It's a shame. What are the locals opinion on the tournament where you are?
