Bit surprised the Liverpool board allowed it. They only want young players and after Toure last season...
"They only want young players"
this is myth
I thought FSG said players 25 or younger?
I was out last night and woke up to this news.
At first I was WTF!?! Then I saw the price. Then I thought about the games against Chelsea and Arsenal and how we couldn't play our game.
It's starting to grow on me. He's got quality, is strong mentally (never missed a peno and seemed unfazed for England) and he's from Kirkby.
It's about improving the squad and no disrespect to Aspas but I consider it an improvement.
Good player but he will flop imo. Liverpool are all about pace these days, he just won't fit.
"It's not a policy which is set in stone but it's an aspiration. If we feel there's a particular position or player who can contribute to the group and is over that sort of age limit, it doesn't mean we won't consider that player."
"As everyone saw in the summer we renewed deals with many of our senior player. So experience is vital and we will consider more experienced players where it makes sense."
"But where a player is younger and talented with the right level of ability, we will always go for the younger option because it's a better long term investment for the club to have someone who will be here a long time hopefully."
that's the policy
Good player but he will flop imo. Liverpool are all about pace these days, he just won't fit.

This, Terrible buy
lambert has found his level
Not really a surprise, quality all-round striker, deserves a move to a CL club, excellent professional aswell

Isn't that the point though. I've seen BR change the system 3 times in one game (Villa 2-2) so I suspect he's brought him in to add another dimension.
Yours is a very myopic view in my opinion. If you look at the Chelsea and Arsenal games we couldn't play our game, especially against Chelsea. Brendan is not daft, he'll now it didn't work and won't in other situations.
Every challenge put to Lambert so far he has passed be that going up the leagues or playing for England. I think he has enough quality and the OP has a good point.

Could apply some of that to Southampton last season to be honest, and he fit in reasonably well there. And regardless, he provides an alternative option. He may not get much game time, but I reckon he'll do fairly well.
Rickie is coming home after 17 years away
It's a great success story - gets england call up to WC and return to original club after being written off for nearly 2 decades
It's a great Roy of the Rovers type story and he will probably provide you with a plan B, for the money quoted seems like good business really.
decent player but he will not exactly add much to Liverpool, they just need extra players with CL football.
Not sure he'll be a major success, but for that price they can't really go wrong. Good player to have in the squad I suppose.
Not saying he's world beater or anything but a player who gets 23 goals and assists isn't someone who won't add to a side
I think you're being a little too dismissive. That's only one less than Giroud and he's your main man.
Great for him, going 'home' after all this time - not sure Liverpool will get the same sort of return from him. I suspect he'll look back on last season as his peak professionally.
I'd love to be wrong and see him a regular starter all next season still putting goals away (but not against Arsenal, naturally). But I can't see it.
he won't be a regular starter, that's a gimme
But I think people are dismissing him as some sort of Carlton Cole when he's been one of the better strikers in the league for the last two seasons and fully earned his place in the England side.
"he won't be a regular starter, that's a gimme"
Which is a shame and why I think he'll look back with a little regret, but just being on Liverpool's books as a top pro may be enough to offset that.
I think he will be a good signing for Liverpool and at £4-8m isn't going to break the bank.
Obviously won't be a regular starter but will get used more in domestic cup competitions and possibly plan B situations.
Though i am right in thinking if United had signed Lambert there would be a lot of chuckling coming from Merseyside.
"he'll look back with a little regret"
he's 32 and headed back to the club he supports and started out at as a youth.
I think going to the WC and (hopefully) scoring in front of the kop is pretty much a dream end to a career
"I think going to the WC...pretty much a dream end to a career"
Elvis had similar thoughts.
But seriously, yes I agree and that was the point of my post.
The signing of Lambert is not going to get any one worked up or nervous is it...finish 2nd & sign Lambert? what is he..32??
Lambert must be over the moon and rightly so.
Ending his career basically at the club he supported and imo still has quite a bit left to give. Hes a good signing and will give pool something different.
