I cant believe people fall for this rubbish rumours.
In this day and age one way to know if a deal is close is to analyse betting sites.
They are still taking bet on Cesc to Chelsea which should tell you that there is nothing in those rumours. Could be even worse, they could be the one spreading them to encourage people betting.
