Chile were World Champions on my save at one point, were number 1 in the World Rankings for a few years too!
I get about £43m a season now from the League and Cups etc, and I sold Tevez to Fulham for £700k (I know...) so I decided I'll buy a young striker who's got potential, his stats are absolutely fantastic so I snapped him up at all costs!
My first game on each FM is always as Everton, but I hate being them because of finances and the squad size!
Wigan, I don't have it but I know a few who do, but apparently (according to them), it's pretty much the same but with a new tactic screen etc, might get it myself at Christmas though.

Get in there! Not bitter at all...
Do you use your own tactics or do you use downloadable tactics? I find it so much easier downloading them, as I'm awful on the tactics side...

I like to test my own tactics, I see it as cheating to use other peoples. It takes away from the sense of achievements.
I would be interested to see the stats of that youngster who was valued @ 33m! my most expensive youngster was 17m(I think) and that was a CDM from Valencia who had better stats than some CAMs!
To avoid paying such high prices I usually scour the well known youth academies for the talent before they sign the contracts.
Spain and England have been my most recent WC winners....mostly due to the fact that quite a number play or played for my team at one moment or another(England)
My current challenge is to build a squad of all academy players. So far I have 1 LW, 2 CM, 2 CDM, 1CB
I guess you could see it that way, but every single FM I use my own tactics, atleast 3 different variations on each patch, sometimes more, and none could even help a Barcelona team to win the La Liga! So I decided to look for some and was like, wow, this is so much better!
On FMH11, I had to create my own tactic (which is a 4-3-3) and it works a treat! I paid £33m because a lot of clubs wanted him and according to my scout I 'couldn't afford to not buy him', so I just put in that bid and thankfully it was accepted.
His stats are great, say out of 20 stats, about 14 are in green (which means 16 or above), so like I said I just had to get him.
On PC, I love to do that, on my Sheffield Wednesday save on FM11 I had a team of under 21 players and all of them had 3 or more stars potential ability.
So how are your downloaded tactics bed tree than yours?
Is it just a matter of playing certain width and giving different roles

I vary with 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 and both get me quite a few goals. I really have no need for any tactics except perhaps stopping my team from taking unnecessary long shots when a cross would be the better option.
I remember though I had a youngster who looked special but I had no room to put him in the first XI and noone was taking him on loan so I sold him to arsenal or 4.3m. A few seasons later(6 I think) he becomes one of the best strikers in the game and is at Boro...now I want him I am politely informed I have to part with 40m. I am hoping that they get relegated and I get him at cut price, but that isn't going to happen as they just bought J.Henderson off me for near 20m and they are 9th in the table in January.
I'm a lazy person, and in terms of Football Manager, I'd pretty much do anything to win the easy way. Admittedly, I should try a lot harder making better tactics, but when I do some I think 'right, I want to achieve short quick passing so I should play like this and this', but it never really works out for me, unfortunately.
Oh that's so unlucky! Thankfully nothing like that's happened to me, I always try to sell for as much as possible (maybe double his normal price) and a sell on percentage of profit or next sale.
I've tried a 4-4-2 tactic created by me once when I had a Wolves side (that were 5th at that point in time after 28 games), but come the end of the season we finished in the bottom half! That was only recently too.

To be honest it took 4 seasons or so of consistently playing those two formations to see the results. I condition my players to play a high tempo from the get go....in fact my starting strategy is "attack". I found playing deep-narrow-wide wins most games for me.
They guy was 18 when I sold him and to be honest I had no idea he would end up the way he did....while he is labeled the next Crouch he has pace, skill, finishing and heading as well as composure....and he is just 22/23. I'm in my 12th season and I am saying if I can't lure him this season and my academy doesn't produce another talent I will get him as I haven't spent >40m on anyone since my 3rd season.
I think of playing like Barcelona, so control, high tempo, little time wasting, short passing, creativity and playing fluidly is what I tended to do a lot of the time, but even when I tried to play hoof ball or somewhere in between, it didn't work out for me.
I don't blame you for selling him to be honest, if he's labelled as the next Crouch then maybe you were right to sell him!

I know what you mean, but I try to stick with rigid rather than fluid as I have found for some reason my wingers end up in my striker's position and vice versa and I'm like....Does it make sense to play with any strikers because they don't seem to get passes....especially with 4-5-1

Funnily enough, I've heard of many people going down that route, such as a 4-6-0 formation, with two attacking midfielders, but I've been really put off that since I've witnessed Moyes' negative football implementing that system in real life, and failing badly.
Anfield, if you were to go on an attack though with a drilled cross, what would happen if a striker had to make a vital run out of position but never and didn't get on the end of the ball? That's why I play expressive football with more creative freedom incase of these little runs if you get me

Maybe that is why I can't score crosses, I usually put one as a poacher and one as a target man to negate the space between midfield and attack as my middle two CM are set to support and defend
I never do 'rigid' because the game that I play needs to use fluid, but next time I come to tactics I might have to try that out.
