European Super Cup. 12 August 2014.
Attacking 3-5-2. High pressing game. Shut out the space the opposition want to play in. Playing with a high tempo, in possession and without it.
Inherently an attacking formation that aims to take the game to our opponents, press and defend high up the pitch, and stretch the play as wide as possible when in possession. The formation is rigid in defence, and fluid in attack.
The midfield trio will look to quickly feed the forwards who will drop deep to collect the ball. We’ve gone for wbs, and cms who will provide great energy in the midfield, but more importantly will be able to control possession. Pace in attack will be key to stretching the opposition’s setup, and making it extremely difficult for them to play their way out of defence.
Balotelli and Robben up front are tasked with using their pace to stretch the opposition defence and pull players out of position. Create pockets of space for our attacking players to get into where they can hurt the opposition.
We’ve not got our best 11 on the pitch, but feel we have gone for the right players that suit this formation. With the right mix of pace, energy and aggression we feel this formation can be particularly successful in Europe.

Defence
We will look to defend high up the pitch, playing a high pressing game. If the opposition have possession in their own half, our formation will resemble a 3-5-2. Looking to get all bodies in the opposition half bar our 3 cbs. Put high pressure on the opposition. Don’t let them play.
In the middle third Smalling/Vert to pick up the wide forward when we have possession and when they are on that wing. They will be slightly narrower when the opposition have possession in a central position, ready to move quickly to one side or the other.
Wbs to pick up their wide midfidler/fb, one of the cms comes across if they have fb,wide mid and wide forward on one side per se.
On the other side (opposite from ball) Smalling/Vert come in narrow, and wb picks up the furthest forward wg on that side. If they switch play we simply move across quickly as a unit to setup in the same manner on the other side.
Essentially, we seek to negate the problem of space behind an attacking wb, by our wide cb being in a position to instinctively cover. Our high defence will consist of our two forwards, wbs and two cms pushing forward to mark and close down the opposition. One of Khedira/Vilhena holds a position in front of the defence.
We only retreat into a back five as part of a deep block after the initial high block had been bypassed and the opposition are moving forward into our half.
As the opposition progress up the pitch, we will drop deeper to a 5-3-2. The cm trio, with Khedira and Vilhena slightly deeper will narrow on the play that the side is. With 3 cbs the gaps between them are generally smaller, and with the additional cover of Alves and Telles it will be difficult for the opposition forwards to find space.
Buffon used to playing with 3 cbs in front of him, will lead from the back, commanding his area and ensuring the defenders in front of him are setup in the correct shape.
Khedira and Vilhena sit slightly deeper than Cesc, ensuring we have cover to come across if they get past one of our cms, one cm that can easily provide extra cover down the wings. Khedira and Vilhena’s defensive contribution, snapping at the opposition heels will give us great energy.
Robben will look to sit in front of the 3 cms moving from left to right with the ball, staying in the lines between the opposition cb and dm.
Attack
We will be patient moving the ball our from defence, the midfield trio however will look to be direct in the opposition half. Quick passing football, keeping the ball on the deck. Pass and move simple. We want the midfield to be quick on the ball, not taking too many touches, find our forwards quickly, then look to get forward and ahead of them.
We have three defenders who are comfortable on the ball, we will generally look to start attacks playing out from the back. Our midfielders will look to come deep, to orchestrate the play, and entice the opposition out of position. Create gaps in their formation.
The midfield trio should never be flat. Create as many lines as possible to increase the options we have in possession, and to create gaps in the opposition.
Wbs look to get at the opposition fbs, with two forwards and 1 cm bombing forward and another looking to join the attack as well, we should overload the opposition defence making it extremely difficult to pick up our players in and around their box. One of the cms will stay deep, Khedira/Vilhena. Offering the opposition to go backwards, and allow him to orchestrate our play and pick a pass.
Our setup gives our strikers great freedom when we are attacking, they are able to find the space to get the ball in dangerous areas, and with a strike partner this is far easier.

Tactics
General.
My team is definitely suited for a counter-attack as we have the a solid defence and good holding midfield that can battle and pick a pass whilst we have pace in abundance with Salah, Lallana and Michu who also are direct and will attack the defence rather than play possession football. We will be strong on set-pieces and and utilise the ball quickly to our attacking midfield who have will be direct and look to get the ball to Negredo or go for goal themselves.
Defence
Marshalled by Vidic, we will be threat on set-pieces with a few players that are great headers of the ball and that will also be a great asset for goal kicks when we have the attack the first and second ball with no hesitance. Our defence are here to not concede so they will use their initiative and not try and do a 'Luiz' and do something silly. Play it simple and find players who are free.
The full-backs will help their respective wingers when needed but defensively they shall remain vigilant and on their feet to try and intercept rather than commit.
Both full-backs will be on the line for corners and not leave until there is no danger from that set-piece.
Midfield
With Motta, you know what you get; battler, menace and discipline. He is no nonsense but he is more technical than just a brawler. Very patient on the ball and knows when to tackle and quite nifty on the ball too. Irramendi is a deceitful looking player and can cover the ground quicker than you think. Great passser of the ball and will be looking to start the counter attacks as quick as possible. He will be more advanced when we attack but will play alongside Motta when we are being attacked.
Salah, Michu and Lallana will be relying on their skill and pace to widen the space between midfield and defence from the opposition and create space for Negredo. All three will be direct and take on players if they are 1v1. However, if there are more than one player they can go wide and take both players with them and Michu and Irramendi will run to the space for the wingers to pass to. When not on the ball, they should all be organised and press as a unit and help their midfield whenever possible.
Forward
Negredo may be the only striker but he will be very well supported by our attacking midfielders. Negredo to be strong in the air and play off the last defender and take up positions where neither defenders or midfielders are sure to pick him up. Negredo is a ruthless finisher and he knows that he will have very good passers to set him up.

We want to play with a high tempo, playing with only one defensive midfielder so push on and force there attacking players back, we will look to break them down with quick passing to get in amongst there defence.
Neuer retains the GK jersey for the forthcoming season, the best in the World. Gathers the high balls but whet he cant catch he willl ppunch clear. off his line early to shut down there forwards and generally instills confidence in the whole team not just the defence. Look to set players away early for quick attacks.
Varane and Bonucci retain there CB spots, a pair that did well last season. If Aguero up top then Varane man marks, any one else then Bonucci does the job. Whoever is man marking stya close to the CF, dont allow him to turn in on goal and stick to him like glue, the other CB will stay spare and help out if needed, clearing all high balls. When in possession look to start attacks from the back but nothing silly.
Fullbacks have changed with Debuchy coming in at RB and Rodriguez finally looking to establish himself as our starting LB now Baines has left. Both when in defence I want to stay in a back 4 look to keep there attacks to a minimum, force wingers back or indeed out wide. When I say force them back, when we have i want both to attack as Carvlaho sits in, Support wingers, drive passed them allowing them to cut in. Either recieve the ball back or take there fb away to create more space. If the ball comes back look to whip in dangerous crosses, then make way back.
My destroyer Carvalho comes in at DM, his job in this game, keep there AM quiet, out of the game and stop him dictating. stop him making his way into the area. He doesnt stroll very far from the defensive line and patrols the area just ahead of them. A big game for him as he looks to impress Fan. Once he has won the ball, simple passes to those around him.
Pirlo and Pogba both help out defensively and help Carvalho break up play, but when we attack they have slightly different roles. Pirlo is the playmaker, he dictates the game, he is without doubt one of the best passesrs in World football and will easily get our players into dangerous positions, his vision is tremendous so look for players making runs and look to get the pass there before they do so they can take it on at pace. Also look for Pogba making his runs from deep so Pirlo can play simple though balls to him and Benzema. Pogba is a powerful player, he drives up and down the pitch supporting attack and defence, look to get forward when we have awaiting the balls through from Pirlo, quick play with Sanchez and Neymar, looking to link up quickly with them playing one twos as they cut inside. These three and Benzema will be a massive threat.
Sanchez and Neymar are two of the best imo, quick, skillfull, love taking men on and importantly can score goals. Drive at fullbacks with support from the fullbacks, once they drive passed look to cut inside, especially Neymar, either play the fullback away or look to Pirlo/Pogba to pass and drive into space and get the return to then go for goal. They wont cut in all the time and will sometimes allow Ricardo/Debuchy to do this, but when we attack I want it to be at pace and with numbers, we have two Cbs, Carvalho andf Pirlo sitting in and we have the pace and energy to get back.
Benzema the ideal No.9, good in the air, two footed and scores for fun, always drifting along the line allowing Sanchez and Neymar to move in when they cut inside, by doing this he takes his man marker away freeing up gaps for the wingers to drive into. If he wants to go for goal look to get into spce for those behind to play him in. If not able to go for goal, lay it off for the runners coming through

In goal Neuer, for me the best Goalkeeper there is, a fantastic shot stopper and a keeper that instills confidence in the back four, leads by example from the back, shouting instructions to hos defenders. Out quickly to shut down strikers and close there shooting angles down. Punches clear what he cant catch from high balls and likes to release early to set up quick counters.
Varane and Bonucci are a solid pairing at CB, on this occassion Varane will man mark the CF, quick and skillfull for a CB, with great marking abilities, will keep the CF away from goal and be on to him quickly as he comes forward so he can intercept any though he has of going for goal. When in possession he will carry the ball out and start attacks from the back. Bonucci alongside will mark any big men that come up for corners etc and make sure he is strong enough to get the ball away from danger, will help out Varane if needed.
Ricardo and Debuchy at fullback, when we attack one goes at a time (see above) the other sits back. When they attack I want them bombing down the wing over lapping the winger to allow them to cut inside, quick passing between the two to get them passed the opposition fullback, which will see the fullback drive towards the bye line to get a quick cross in. If its not a cross then look for the winger inside to play a quick pass back to them so they can drive into the box. Defending both will have to be vigilant and always mindful of the tricks the opposite winger can do. Be onto them quickly not allowing them the time to get going, push them out wide and stop them becoming a threat.
Pirlo is my playmaker, he controls the game with his, at time simplistict passing, not the quickest player Pirlo leaves that sort of exertion to his youthful midfield partners Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba. Instead, patrolling an area not much more extensive than the centre circle, he sits in front of his back four, firing out quarterback-type passes, occasionally ambling forward to take a free-kick. Although not lightning quick he is very difficult to get the ball from. At times he just takes a touch and makes the opposition look very silly. This gives him the time to ping the passes about with time and ease. His style will frustrate the opposition they will begin to fly in with rash tackles which he will merely walk away from, with ball at feet. Defending he will be aided by Pogba and Vidal who will do the marking job on the two most advanced midfielders. Both extremely hard working lads who will get up and down the pitch helping both defence and attack. They sit as a three with Pogba picking up the AM, Vidal taking care of business on the other player. They will break up play and get it moving forward, most likely Vidal to burst forward to assist Benzema. His goal record for a CM is fantastic and can score from varous angles/ranges, he is a very dynamic player with great stamina, one who never gives up. He thrives with Pirlo/Pogba in the midfield trio and they will be no pushovers for anyone this season. Pogba is sort of mix of the two, can pass the ball about, defend the lines and also break forward. A very cool head for such a young lad. Look to pcik up from Pirlo and drive forward looking for more advanced passing to those in front of him or push forward with the ball with Vidal sitting jsut a bit behind.
Sanchez and Neymar are class. Both lightning quick with nimble feet which more often than not takes them passed the fullback, wether they knock it passed them and drive on or simple a quick turn, and there away. Will have fullbacks supporting them so this allows them to pass and cut inside where both are very useful. Give and go, wait for the return and go for goal, or look to drive into the box in support of Benzema. Neymar focusses more on the ttricks and twists to see him passed, whereas Sanchez likes to make the pass that gives him time to look for space for him to drive into and wait for the return. Both very dangerous and with support from there respective fullbacks we will be a danger out wide. When defending look to get back and stop there defenders becoming a threat.
Benzema is the prefect striker, two good feet, good in the air, will look to get into positions that he will become dangerous, in fact my front three are a danger and there movement will be a serious concern for the other team. Pace and movement from them, can all play CF or drift wide so when the winger comes in Benzema will be looking to drag the CB away freeing up room for the other two to drive into. With Vidal also supporting we are a huge goal threat to anyone. Benzema for high balls needs to leap early to get above the CB, and with his back to goal look to set up others who are driving in.

Manchester United vs Aston Villa, Old Trafford
Pressure is on from the start, a big game at home against a team on the up. But, against a team we feel we have more quality than, and finished above last season, so at home, this is a game we must win as we aim to crack the top 4 this season.
Very few changes to our side from last season, the team know each other, and the formation. We aim to start quickly. Our team are confident, and raring to start the season with a bang, and to capitalise on the negativity coming from the Villa camp. Win.

Attacking 4-2-3-1. Playing with plenty of width. We have fantastic pace down the wings to stretch Villa, and create gaps in their formation. Villa have a strong midfield, so our wide players will be key in stretching the game, and exposing the Villa defence. We feel our wide players will key to beating Villa.
We will look to defend high up the pitch, playing a high pressing game. Tevez leads from the front with his natural high work rate in defence.
The formation is rigid in defence, fluid in attack. Navas keeps the width on the right, but we encourage Robben,Oscar and Tevez to interchange, pop-up in different positions, drag opposition defenders out of position, and create openings for team-mates.
The players know their individual roles, in natural positions and so we focus on the team setup. We feel our team has a naturally high work rate, and this will allow us to play the high pressing game.
We will be direct and attack with pace. Cesc is the playmaker, in the cm role. Our attacking four will really stretch the opposition with their movement, this should open up the opposition and allow Cesc and Sami to control the game for us.
Defence.
Control the space. When they do have possession, ensure it’s in areas that can’t hurt us.
The first point of defence should be in in the opposition half, as we look to play a high pressing game. We allow the opposition CBs and GK time on the ball in the final third. But close down midfielders coming deep in this area, pushing our team forward and playing a slightly higher line. Limit their options. Force them to go long or take risks.
As soon as they move the ball out of the first third, to the middle section of the park we want to press.
Keeping the 4-2-3-1 shape at this point, Tevez, Oscar and one of Navas/Robben will look to close down the opposition depending where the opposition are. The winger on the opposite flank comes in narrow, ensuring there is no space in the centre.
When there dm’s come deep to get the ball, Tevez and one of WGs/AM shut out the space in front of them, force them back to their defenders as our other four midfielders and fb’s will pick up their midfielders.
Although we press high up the park, the defence will ensure that as Villa advance further up the park, the line drops deep so there is no space in behind. As Villa advance into higher areas of the park and into our half, our shape will resemble a 4-1-4-1.
Khedira drops in between defence and midfield, sweeping in between the lines. His energy and reading will be best utilised in this position. Cesc and Oscar in cm. This shape ensures that when one of our midfielders do press we will still always have 4 midfielders behind, to cover, particularly in the important central areas.
We always want at least one more defender than Villa has attacker. I.e two then only one full backs get forward at a time. The other stays in line with Khedira, ready to break forward. Guarding against counters, allow us to get players back if possession changes quickly.
Our fb’s up against their quick wide forwards are to drop off more so they can bide their time, waiting for the right time to make the tackle and not diving in. Show him down the line to block the cross. If he does manage to get past you, there’s a chance to stop the cross.
Attack
We look to keep our passing simple in our own third. Playing short and on the deck where possible. If we go long, we look to find our wingers, using their pace to get in behind.
Generally be direct going forward, in the opposition half we will always looking to go forward and stretch the opposition where possible. Navas keeps the width on the right, his linkup play with Alves will pose a real threat. Navas keeping width, allowing the tireless Alves to run inside him and beyond.
Robben has more freedom to find space in central areas, as Filipe will be tasked with keeping the width when he gets down the left. The pace of Navas & Robben will be a real asset down the wings and will help to stretch the opposition, forcing them deep. This will create space in the centre of the park, giving time to the central players.
Cesc will orchestrate our play. We want him to be everywhere today, and get involved with everything. We are looking to see the aggressive Fabregas that played as a box-to-box man for Arsenal. Khedira offers drive in the more defensive cm role, he will help to drive us forward out of defence, and stay deep at all times in attack but for the very rare occasion where he can burst forward and Cesc will cover.
Oscar will always look to find space in between the Villa midfield and defence, where he can get on the ball, linking up and looking to create.
Tevez up top will play his natural game.
Subs.
If winning after 70 mins bring on Vilhena for Oscar. Cesc moves to a more attacking cm role. Vilhena box to box role.
If winning after 75 mins bring on Balotelli for Tevez. Mario to use his pace as the game opens up and Villa defence tires.
If winning after 80 mins bring on Telles for Navas. Fresh pace down the right. Gives more defensive cover.
If drawing after 69 mins bring on Barkley for Navas and Balotelli up front for Tevez. Injection of power as legs tire. Oscar moves right, giving us more variation and creativity on the right. While Balotelli adds pace up top.
If drawing after 75 mins bring on Cazorla for Oscar.
If losing after 69 mins bring on Telles for Filipe. Two fbs to attack.
If losing after 75 mins bring on Balotelli for Oscar. Tevez to AM.
If losing after 75 mins bring on Cazorla for Navas.

Overview
An attack minded 4-2-3-1 with inverted wingers to allow full backs to provide width when attacking. and working in groups of 2 or 3 to press high up the pitch get the ball back by stayng on their feet and nick the ball rather than sliding in to launch quick transitions from defence to attack.
Keeper
When distributing the ball, he should look to keep it simple and play the percentage pass. At crosses and set pieces, should look to punch rather than flap at pressurised catches.
Full Backs
Both are effective in the attacking side of the game, and their primary directive will be to push on and make overlapping runs down their respective sides, keeping the pitch as wide as possible to try and stretch the opposition defensive line. Defensively the objective is to push the opposition winger out as wide as possible or show the wingers infield if their objective is to get a cross in.
Centre Backs
Godin will compete with the striker for the aerial balls played up to him, with Subotic looking to win the 2nd ball. When the ball is on the floor, Subotic will be the defender who looks to meet the striker looking to stifle his space and rush his decisions, with Godin making the covering run. When on the ball, if the opposition are giving them space to come out with the ball, then they should look to take it forward, if not, keep it simple and play it to a man in space and retain possession.
Centre Mids
Pjanic will look to create himself little pockets of space so he can get on the ball and keep the game ticking over whilst not afraid to get forward as an extra attacking option, Henderson will be playing a more all round game looking to put himself about, being a key figure in the pressing game and using his energy to get forward and make late runs and be an extra attacking presence. When defending, both players will look to close down the space in which the attacking midfielders will look to occupy and restrict them to minimal time on the ball.
Wingers
When they are on the ball, the emphasis for both wingers will be more on cutting inside with the occasional long shot, and only occasionally putting in crosses, if they do cut inside, the full backs should have moved forward to occupy the touchline and provide the wide option. When our full backs have moved forward, the wingers should look to move the ball into the box, getting involved in a fast intricate style of passing with Mata and Suarez, as defenders will be extra cautious to not give away a penalty. When the opposite winger has the ball, the winger without the ball should look to find space between the CB and full back to add an extra body for any crosses or capitalise on any defensive errors.
When defending, they should be involved in the team pressing, particularly on the full backs as well as tracking their movement when they go forward.
Attacking Midfielder
Mata should be looking to make himself available for a pass as much as possible, when we have the ball in the middle of the pitch, he shouldn't be afraid to come a bit deeper to get the ball and take on players himself or look to make an attacking pass. he should also look to be making late runs into the box as an attacking option when we have the ball out wide. when defending, he should be looking to occupy the defensive pivot, stop him being an out ball for the opposition.
Striker
When attacking, he will look to play a high energy game by being a willing runner down the channels and constantly drift around the defenders looking to get himself a bit of space enough for him to face the defenders and take them on. He should also use his knack of anticipating what the defenders are going to try and get the ball to fend them off and gain the crucial advantage to create a chance for himself or others. When defending, he will be the first line of defence, using his high energy game to pressurise the defenders into making quick decisions.
Set Pieces
Corners - Mata takes the corners, the 2 CB's go into the box, the FB's stay back to prevent counters, the CB's, Suarez and Henderson attack the ball, Nasri looks to annoy the opposition keeper looking to limit his ability to move around the 6 yard box. Iturbe and Pjanic take positions just outside the box to pick up any weak defensive headers or knockdowns.
Free Kicks - Suarez takes Direct FK's, with Mata occasionally taking them as the 2nd option.
For Indirect FK's, follow the same directives for Corners
Penalties - Suarez is the designated taker.
Subs
If Winning
72 mins - McCarthy for Mata - The wingers tuck back, but with the knowledge to get out quickly for the front 3 to try and counter if the opposition over-commit for a route back into the game.
McCarthy sits back and gets involved in the team pressing.
85 + 87 Mins - Callejon for Iturbe and Vrsaljko for Nasri - Fresh legs with the added element of running down the clock.
If Losing
71 Mins - Callejon + Higuain for Uchida + Iturbe - switch to a 3-5-2 with emphasis on the wings backs acting as wingers and we go all out attacking for a way to get back into the game.
83 Mins - Costa for Nasri - a more direct option.
Red Card Directives
1st Half - go to a 4-2-2-1 formation, with Iturbe going off if needed to replace the position which was sent off.
2nd Half
If Losing - Same as 1st half
If Winning - switch to a 5-3-1 - with Iturbe and Nasri going off, to replace the position for the player which the red was given to, and to bring sakho on as the 3rd cb (vrsaljko if one of the existing cbs was off with rojo going lcb)

Very tough game today against Portsmouth, a huge test for us and seeing how we get on, under absolutely no pressure, enjoy the game, retain possession and enjoy the experience. Leave everything on the pitch, look to absorb the pressure and strike on the break.
Mandanda - Distribute from the back to the fullbacks/CM's, stay in communication with your defence throughout, be wary of long range efforts and ensure you stay big for any one on ones.
Lovren/Distin - Lovren to mark Lewandowski, force him high up the pitch thus limiting his impact close to goal, and Distin to be the spare man, be first to the second ball and prevent any runners from midfield. When in possession bring the ball out of defence and use the midfielders ahead of you to help us play out from the back. Both of you go forward for setpieces.
Manquillo/Criscito - I want you both to stay with the Portsmouth wingers, force them outside and block their crosses at source. They will try to cut inside and create problems but only show them down the wing. When we have possession, push forward and support Thauvin/Bernard as they will try to run inside the fullback and you will provide the overlap to either create space or supply crosses into the area for Osvaldo. You will need to track back very quickly to ensure we don't get caught on the break.
Dembele/Clasie/Hernanes - I want you all to work together and dominate the midfield. Without the ball all three of you will work hard to win back possession. Clasie will be the one who sits and protects the back four and breaks up play, while tracking anyone from midfield breaking forward. Dembele will be our box to box man, be the one who bursts into the area for any crosses and arrive late. Track back when we lose possession. Hernanes to play the playmaker role, drop deep and assist but you will be the one dictates play, you have the trickery and mentality required to fulfill this role and be our match winner. Keep the ball if nothing on, tire out the opposition by making them chase after the ball.
Thauvin/Bernard - Both playing out wide and both have the pace and trickery to beat the Portsmouth fullbacks and get crosses in, but both of you will also have our fullback overlapping giving you the chance to cut inside and get shots in. Look to supply Osvaldo with chances and also provide yourselves with chances. Link up with Hernanes and Dembele, and capitalise on the space Osvaldo's presence will create for you. Without the ball I expect you two to track back and assist your fullback.
Osvaldo - you will be expected to occupy the Portsmouth centrebacks, hold up possession and look to turn the defender and shoot. If they double mark you, drop wide and swap with Thauvin to leave him unmarked and near the goal. Be strong in the air and look for Hernanes trying to pick you out. Shoot on sight.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Hernanes and Clasie off, Besic and Rodwell on. Stay with the 4-3-3 but Besic replaces Clasie, giving us fresh legs at DM, and Rodwell replaces Hernanes, giving us more defensive protection to hold onto our lead.
If drawing: Thauvin and Osvaldo off, Hulk and Drmic on. Two like for like changes, Drmic upfront with Hulk to RW, same gameplan as before.
If losing: Dembele and Thauvin off, Hulk and Drmic on. Drmic upfront with Osvaldo, Hulk to RW, Hernanes further forward to AM with Bernard staying LW in a 4-1-3-2, Clasie holding the fort, the fullbacks will be expected to push further forward as well and take more risks.

Tactics: 'Park the speed bus'. We are well aware of teh talents of Arsenal and must not try and match them man for man. We will be starting defensive and and double up on Ronaldo and Yaya to give them absolutely no time and space to think and maneouvre. We will be aggressive and bully them so they get frustrated. Once the commit more players and we receive the ball, we shall hit Lallana and Salah who will have wide open spaces and they can sprint towards goal and go for it. We are not playing for a draw as we feel we can get a win but we need to play with our heads rather than our heart. We need to be smart and let them commit and then target getting the ball and then we hit them on the break with wide open spaces. Organisation is key. Even if we are 1-0 down we stay in this formation as we know that we can score from our tactics and on set-pieces.
Alves - Aggressive on set-pieces and needs to be focussed with long rang shooting. If in doubt, hoof it out. Stay big 1v1s and stay on feet as long as possible.
Rami, Papa and Albiol
They will have to be totally concentrated and make sure that they dont leave gaps for the likes of Aguero or Ronaldo to make a killer pass. Close down attackers quick with the help of the central midfielders. We aggressively attack in the air and show Arsenal, we will not cave in. All do not make rash challenges and keep communicating. Not defending too deep either. All 3 are targets for attacking set-pieces. It is imperative that once they receive the ball, they look for the attacking players as quick as possible.
Contento and Cacares
Both solid defenders and will not do hardly any attacking but will be helped by the central midfielders and CB's to double up on their wide players. Stay on your feet and barge them out to touch. Offensively they will be feeding the wingers and try and avoid helping them as we want the opposition to try and commit as many players as possible.
Parejo and Motta
They will be on defensive duties and Motta will be man-marking Ronaldo and keep close to him as we know he will get frustrated if he is targeted aggressively and that will put him off his game. Parejo will be covering and closing down the central midfielders like Yaya who need time and space to hurt us so we as a tream close them quick and he will be one of them. Parejo will be assisted by Negredo to put pressure on the central midfielders as tyhey will have hardly any space so we try and get that ball quick and counter.
Lallana and Salah
--Salah--------Motta-------Parejo--------Lallana--
will be their main position as the game evolves as they need to be assisting the midfielders to double up as much as possible.
They shall start as deep as Parejo and help our respective full-backs but as soon as we receive the ball, they both will be sprinting up on their respective flanks and out-pacing their defence to run at goal. It has to be direct running as we dont want their players catching up. They will be smart and make runs at open spaces that will be vacant. We feel this will be our best option to get a goal or two in open play.
Negredo.
Will start as in AM role and help defensively by targeting the CM and dispossesing the midfielders and start the quick attack. However, he has the ability to score and outpace their defence. Negredo is mart enough and has the attributes to take any CB and fire at goal and he will have the licence to shoot at sight.
Subs:
75mins: Rondon for Negredo (same role)
78mins: Cerci for Lallana. (same role) Cerci to play a more deeper role to assist Contento with fitter legs.

We have 3 stages of intense pressing as we look to establish our dominance on and off the ball without needing to control possession, defending in horizontal zones to squeeze space rather than just players and using our superiority in the middle. Stage one sees us looking to force the opposition to play the ball wide or back to the CBs/keeper for a longer ball. We do this through the front four putting intense pressure on, focusing on squeezing the two CMs as we believe under pressure they have no answer to get beyond us and into space in midfield, particularly as we expect Mikel to start and under pressure he will go backwards or sideways, Cavani and Griezzman get in their faces first with Corchia and Turan ready to close off their options. This leads us into stage two and setting our team up in the area of the pitch where the opposition have moved the ball too, giving us the numerical advantage. If they have been forced wide we move our players into that horizontal area of the field, using the wide attacker and the FB as the main two players going to the man on the ball, with the two CMs and the central attackers also shifting towards that area of the field to compact the field and make it extremely hard to get out. If the opposition from there play it down the wing they are going to be forced really wide and given a tough task to cross, it they play it infield we have the CMs ready to step in and break up play, if they look to switch it we have the players on the opposite flank ready to put the pressure on and slow things down whilst the rest of our team reorganises to defend the next horizontal zone. If stage two is defending centrally then we bring Griezmann and Cavani back to defend in front of the CMs, stop them being able to find incisive passes, if they look to run through they will immediately have our CMs battling away. We also make use of the wide attackers to narrow and widen the pitch as needed when defending centrally, providing extra numbers infield when needed to make things compact and impossible to move the ball through at any pace, whilst they can stretch wide and track the runs of the FBs, stopping any overload down the flanks. After, stage 3 is the same as two but in our own third, keeping the back four narrow and a bank 4 ahead of them, defending our 18 yard line and leaving no spaces between defenders with wingers stopping crosses with help of FBs when needed, force them into longer shots and make sure we are nibbling away when they have the ball.
Attack wise we again look to make our central advantage count today by really hitting them hard through the middle, getting the ball into the final third asap. We will be looking to win the ball as high up the field as we can, initially using the wide areas to move the ball into, moving the Cms across to the side of the field with possession to give us numbers, helped by our defensive structure which will give us a platform for quick transition to attack, before we look to finish infield. When we attack we do so in numbers with plenty of movement, the FBs joining in as well as a CM able to stride forward, although when this happens one attacking player must be disciplined and hold their runs. The eventual aim of our short passing attacks is to come central, either with a cross as we put numbers into the box, or by using decoy runs to allow players to move infield and then pick out a pass, with Cavani and Griezzman looking to time their runs together, one coming towards the ball, the other peeling off towards the back of the box and players from midfield able to run the channels or between CBs. We also have great ability in attacking from deeper areas, either looking to break out quickly, using the pace and trickery of Griezzman to get away from the CMs, or the power of Matic, Matuidi, Moreno in breaking out of defence or from longer balls into Cavani who can battle the CBs and bring the 3 behind him into play, which will become a key tactic if we are struggling to break beyond Wolves pressing, we will allow them to push up the field then use the longer balls from Terry and Matic up to the striker and attack them when there is more space for us, bypassing their midfield, we do this by bringing Cavani a little deeper to bring him closer to our midfield so we can support him quickly. When we can't break, we keep the ball and wait for things to open up.
Individual:
Ruddy commands his area, collecting crosses and distributing quickly.
FBs get forward when we attack, providing an overlap and decoy runs. When defending they stand up to the wingers never diving in, defending with energy higher up the field, but staying close to the CBs in our final third, only pushing out to stop crosses.
CBs are both big and powerful to deal with the threat of Mandzukic, Terry man marking, fighting him in the air and on the ground, Howedes there to mop up and stop any runs from midfield. Distribute long when needed.
Matic and Matuidi look to provide us with a platform to control the game, winning the midfield battle, keeping the ball moving, breaking up attacks, helping us drive forward.
Griezzman always looking to move about and use his pace and trickery to get at the CMs and open the game up for us.
Corchia provides width to stretch the game up and stop us becoming too narrow, always providing the option to switch the play and get crosses in. Turan drifts inside to provide overloads.
Cavani the focal point, using his strength and movement to bully the CBs. Everything we do will look to end with him having a chance, we want him making the runs to give the AMs the chance to pick him out.
Subs:
If Winning: Nainngolan for Griezzman 70', comes on to give us more stability in possession, we will use a 4-3-3 and press in greater numbers through the midfield. Kondogbia and N'Koulou for Matuidi and Corchia 80', Kondogbia will come in to lock up the midfield, adding a lot of power. N'Koulou goes in a back 5 to account for any extra Cf Wolves throw at us, Nainngollan will go wide of a flat 4 and Cavani gives us an out ball if they throw everything at us, take advantage of the space they will leave.
If Drawing: Bakkali for Corchia 70', comes on to have a real run at the FB and add that extra dimension to our attacks, take players on to open up space. Sneijder and Bony for Matuidi and Griezzman 75', we go to a 4-4-2, Sneijder comes on to give us someone who can play killer passes, whilst with Bony and Cavani upfront we can target both CBs and get Bakkali, Sneijder and Turan running off them or use the longer balls into the box to cause confusion. Whilst our defensive plan stays the same, Bony fills in for Griezzman.
If Losing: Azpilicueta and Moreno off, N'Koulou and Bony on 3-5-2 65', going to a back 3 so we can put pressure on higher up the field in greater numbers. Bony and Cavani occupy the CBs, giving us the chance to get Griezzman and Turan into free space as well as the option of longer balls into the strikers. If we get back level at any time, we go ahead eventually we bring Kondogbia on for Cavani and go back to a 4-5-1, this time Matuidi plays most advanced in midfield to stop them being able to play it around in midfield. If we don't get the goals before 75', Sneijder comes on for Corchia, Griezzman goes wide and Sneidjer plays AM, looking to provide us with the killer passes.
Tactics vs WBA opening league game

subs: Patricio, Musacchio, Flanagan, De Jong, Quintero, Boetius, Rossi
Game plan: our plan today is to go at WBA from the off, we're experimenting with a new team and system and will be looking to express ourselves in the opening game of the season. We will look to press high up the pitch, Successful pressing is dependant on group understanding, collective perception of ball, opponent and team mate, and a massive amount of hunger and desire to have the ball. It isn’t possible to press for 90 minutes. We will have to pick our times wisely in order to do it successfully. If our players are tracking back or not close enough to the ball it isn't sensible to press the ball, we will look to capitalise on poor passes by the opposition or when a player is facing his own goal or has his head down when receiving the ball, at these times to opposition player does not have a full view of the pitch and cannot pick a forward pass.
In possession we will have many lines of players in order to create easy triangles for the players on the ball, the player on the ball should always have at least 2 passing options, the full backs will also go forward creating an almost 3-4-3(2-3-2-3)formation when in possession, this reverts to a 5-4-1 formation when we lose possession.

Juanfran------Benatia-------------Miranda--------Sandro
---------------------Witsel---------Marchisio--------------------
Walcott--------------------James-------------------Markovic
--------------------------------Rodrigo-----------------------------
Scuffet: very young, but a fantastic goalkeeper, excellent shot stopper and very confident coming off his line, will look to release the ball quickly in order to start attacks, when he gets the ball the full backs will push forward and the centre backs will spread out offering themselves for the pass, will only go long if there is no other option.
Defence: as has been spoken about in the game plan section, the full backs will look to push up the field when we are in possession creating the multiple lines across the pitch which is the basis of our possession philosophy. The central defenders will look to stay close to one another when out of possession, the full backs will also tuck in leaving little room in the centre of the pitch, while the midfield and attack will cover the defence of the wide areas, this is not the specific job of one player as we are playing in a fluid system, it will be whoever is available to do the job at that point in time. Benatia and Miranda are to talk to each other constantly and be wary of the movement of the WBA CF, but they will not be sucked out of position, Witsel and Marchisio will be providing cover in front of the back 4, so if the CF wants to drop off, the CB's are to hold their position and communicate to Witsel and Marchisio that they have an extra man to watch.
Midfield and Attack: Witsel will by and large stay in position in the holding role in the midfield. He will look to snuff out space for the opposition attacking players, and always be available for a pass when we are in possession. The 4 players in front of Axel will play very fluidly, and as has already been stated they will look to press the opposition when the time is right, all 5 possess good pace and stamina and are able to get up and down the pitch.
Marchisio will get up and down the pitch throughout, has terrific energy and is very creative and can carry the ball, will look to move the ball quickly, as will the whole team, we will play with a high tempo throughout the game not giving WBA any breathing space.
James Rodriguez will look to find space in possession, whether that means moving wide or into the gaps between the lines, he has the ability to run at the opposition and take the opportunity to shoot and link with Rodrigo, Walcott and Markovic who will bomb forward and provide an outlet in the wide areas. We will look to get James on the ball as much as possible as he is our most creative players. He will have a lot of freedom to roam and find space throughout the match.
Rodrigo Moreno will play as the centre forward for us today, his pace, movement and energy suits the change in the way we are going to play, he will look to roam across the pitch, dragging defenders out of position which will leave space for the other attackers and our midfield to benefit from, as stated previously in the tactics he is part of the fluid front 4 we are playing with today so will pop in different areas of the pitch on occasion, we are not just going to throw the ball into the box at every opportunity so his running of the channels and his technical ability are crucial in the way we want to play.
Subs: Giuseppe Rossi for Rodrigo on 70 minutes, straight swap, very similar players.
if winning after 75 minutes, Nigel De Jong for Marchisio, NDJ to act as an out and out anchorman in midfield, no risks, just sit and protect the back 4, also the fullbacks to be less attacking and take less risks.

_____________________________
We start off the season in a 4-2-2-2 formation, with the idea of playing on the wings and getting the ball in towards our strikers. We opt for the Croatia duo in the centre of the park, as they are both similar players in terms of style and know each other inside out. Kovacic will take the defensive role whilst Modric is the roam, looking to play quick passes to release our wingers and getting our other attackers into play.
We face Everton, who don't really have a striker with genuine quality, but we do know they have quick players who can come at us quick. Therefore we have also lined up with a quick defence, with the two fullbacks offering plenty of energy and speed down the flanks. Marcelo will be more cautious, he can make errors, which is why he will be closely monitored by Marquinhos who must step to any potential rescue asap. Marquinhos is a very clever CB who is very good in the air, and must use this advantage as he will be on the look out for any high balls into the box.
Marquinhos and Sokratis will be playing man to man marking, as we feel they are good enough to fend for themselves, as there isn’t really any standout players. Sokratis goes for the low balls, and also uses his very good awareness to clock runs from incoming players, and source out danger from all angles. He will lead our backline and guide Marquinhos through the game, as he is obviously more experienced.
Carvajal and Marcelo are given license to burn the wings, seeing as we want Sterling and Gotze to both come infield from time to time to add another dimension to our play. Both of them know how to cross a wicked un, and they have two great poachers in the box to aim at. Not many teams play with 2 strikers these days, which is why we want to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the Everton defence.
Sterling is bloody rapid, and must use this pace to run the nuts off the LB. He is an extremely tricky player and makes life hell for the best of defenders, and we can use this quality as a way of distraction, opening up space for Marcelo to join in the attack. Sterling also gets into very good position scoring wise, and when given the signal, must bomb into the box looking to get on the end of crosses.
Gotze on the other hand, bases his game more around the quick feet, one touch, pass and move game, and has great movement. He knows to come inside and look to angle a ball into the box, and will also have great understanding with Lewandowski. Carvajal will be on his outside, and seeing as Gotze will want to stay central for long periods of the game, he must always act as the support man, so when we have the ball in the opposition half, we want our position to be:
-----------Marquinhos----Sokratis
-----------------Kovacic----------------Marcelo
-Carvajal-----------------Modric
------------Gotze-------------------------Sterling
------------------Lew----Immobile
So we see him more as a RM. However, he must always be alert and make sure both he and Marcelo track back at all times whhenver we are under threat. No loitering will be accepted.
Kovacic will be the defensive cog in our midfield, as he likes sitting back and getting the ball played to his feet. He isn’t really expected to come out of position, but is allowed the odd run up to the edge of the box to keep his awareness levels high. Kovacic must hold down the fort, and cant be afraid to put a tackle in. He can be tough tackling, but we don’t want him to be reckless. We must limit the amount of Freekicks conceded as they could turn out to be a source of goals for the opposition.
Alongside Kovacic, Modric will be the star of the show. Dictating the play is his cup of tea, and not only will he act as the go-to guy, he will be our midfield enforcer too, as he loves coming forward with the ball and connecting with the attackers. He has a great shot on him too, so is welcome to whip one when he’s feeling goal hungry.
Up front is the exciting side of our team. Lewandowksi and Immobile have the potential to be a top pairing. Last seasons top scorers of the Serie A and the Bundesliga come together in a team suited just for them. They have similar qualities, apart from the fact Lewandowski can do everything Immobile can, and more. Lewandowski will be playing ever so slightly behind Immobile, as Lewa is one of the best when it comes to playing the ball with his back to goal. He is allowed to step out and take the ball on his chest/feet as his eye for a pass is brilliant for a striker. He must always try to be within 10-15 yards of Immobile, as the best of partnerships require two players to be close to each other at all times. He can use his passing ability to play in Immobile, but his main job is to control his movement in the box so he can be ready for crosses into the box. Lew and Immobile must go for the second ball, i.e if Lew went for the header, Immobile must be waiting to pounce just in case the ball ricochets back to him, and vice versa.

If Drawing 60mins:
Coutinho > Immobile, Coutinho has that magic to unlock defence's, he plays as a CAM and we revert to a 4-2-3-1
If winning 60mins:

Willian > Gotze, straight swap, Willian very hard working and has lots of stamina, and his energy will keep Everton busy
If losing 60mins: Hamsik > Kovacic + Asamoah > Immobile:

Ozil > Schurrle – 65th min - Ozil look to start where Schurrle finished off support defensively whilst looking to create chances up top.
Wilshere > Ribery – 65th min (Hazard LW) – Wilshere will provide fresh spark and energy looking to support the midfield and getting the ball into feet.
Fellaini > Bacca (if losing) – 80th min – Get the ball into the box as much as possible looking for that equaliser.
----------------------
The outline:
A tough game to start the season but armed with an effective game plan we feel we can target the opposition’s weaknesses today and come away with all 3 points.
We start by forming pacts and looking to press with purpose at high intensity levels. This starts from the front with us not allowing their GK any easy options as all bases must be covered. If it’s short we look to hunt them down ensuring they have to take us on and carry the ball out of defence prompting a player out of position so we can swiftly take advantage through re-gaining possession. If it’s long we have the players to win aerial duals and get stuck in through De Rossi, Ivanovic, Dante, Ramos and Luiz.
In midfield De Rossi and Luiz must maintain the pressure and look to disrupt the play. Hazard and our wingers must drop deep looking to form a flat 4. Hazard is the tip of the diamond and will look to man-mark the most creative of their midfielders ensuring he is opposed to playing his natural game and doesn’t get the time and space he needs on the ball to operate. WG’s both have the ability to track-back efficiently looking to give our FB’s the security they need.
In defence we look to defend deep as we feel this suits our CB’s best in looking to cut off any supply to their striker. We’ll look to dominate physically looking to bully off the ball showing who’s boss.
Our attackers will benefit from this counter-productive attacking system, Luiz provides the vision from long-range, Bacca is the perfect outlet up top especially against the defence he is up against today, Hazard and wingers provide flexibility and raw pace.
An extra ace in our pack is set-pieces as we look to get specialists Ramos, Dante, Ivanovic and Bacca amongst the crowd looking to attack the delivery, I feel they will struggle to contend with us in this area so our attackers must draw fouls when possible.
-----------------
Individual tactics:
De Gea has strong competition with the new arrival of Caballero so must be on his toes, I want him to command his area, very vocal, quick off his feet and distribution swift and on point.
FB’s both very solid defensively and must look to keep it simple today, we need to present from the outset that it will take an almost striking effort to get past these two, I want us to get as physical as possible looking to muscle them off the ball and generally looking to use a bullying demeanour. Our wingers need to assist them as much as possible doubling up on the opposition’s and not giving an inch so we can prevent them cutting inside and imposing themselves.
Ramos and Dante add additional layers to our defensive solidarity, Ramos is as committed as they come and should look to lead the line. He’s responsible for marking their main striker today and should firmly look to get stuck in going toe to toe with every challenge and pushing him back as much as possible, I want us to suck as much confidence out of their striker as possible due to his limited involvement so he makes fewer runs and worth ethic is questioned. Dante partners Ramos and is entirely in his comfort zone playing in a deep line. He should look to keep an eye on second runners and look to keep everything in check generally staying alert to any danger.
De Rossi and Luiz add force and bite to our midfield, De Rossi is the powerhouse and should look to flex his muscles and get snapping at heels. He must work tirelessly for the full 90 with the pressing system in place setting the perfect example to others as we work collectively to keep them out. Luiz starts today as he provides the perfect balance between attack and defence however he must stay disciplined. I want him working in tandem with De Rossi looking to run himself into the ground, in terms of our counter attack approach, Luiz has the ability to pick out an inch perfect pass without hesitation, we need him on the ball to get that transition from defensive duties to attack so our attackers have the space and time to hit the opposition hard within seconds.
Hazard will act as the focal point today, we generally want everything to pass through him. I want him taking players on looking to get us into that final third and into goal-scoring positions. The wingers must support him, Schurrle is very good at finding space and making off the ball runs, Ribery must keep the width and get balls into the box.
Bacca is the perfect foil for us up top today, v well experienced at playing such a role and will defiantly get the better of defenders as he is strong, powerful and can hold his own. A very willing runner and likes to get involved as much as possible whilst not the type to get bogged down. He’ll look to link-up with others as much as possible and rile their defenders both on and off the ball.

A change in style this year where we look to add more width and pace to our team. When needed we will sit in an absorb pressure pouncing on any opportunity to counter attack with or deadly trio up front and yaya the beast (madrid style)
Lahm and Gibbs two natural full backs. I want them upon and down the pitch providing options for our attack. Also I want them to defend responsibly and not risk being caught out. They mark man for man and force the opposition down the wing.
Kompany and Boateng, A good mix of power, pace, aerial ability and composure on the ball, allows us to be commanding at the back and limit the amount of opportunities for the opposition. Both will control the back four and make sure everybody is doing their job correctly by using their excellent leadership skills. Kompany and Boateng will stay close to each other not allowing the opposition to open up space. Boateng looks to defend the first ball coming towards our defence, using his reading of the game to get there before the striker and clear, he'll use his great tackling to shut him down around the area and then look to get the ball back Kompany stays in position when Boateng does this covering the remaining space, he will be able to clear the second ball if it gets beyond Boateng.
Busquets and Herrera will be our two deepest central midfielders. As usual
Busquets holds while Herrera plays box to box. Herrera uses his amazing
energy to track down opposition in pressing while also making late runs intothe box. Busquets helps us tick over. Yaya will play the AM role and will occasionally swap with herrera.
This year we aim to be more pacy and direct therefore the AM will be the focal point of this type of attack. However with a player like Ronaldo in the team it is more than likely that he will be the focal point. Reus starts on the right wing and we want him to give us natural width. Similarly with Ronaldo on the left wing but as usual he will have a free role.
Up front is Aguero, he should always look to make runs in behind and hold
his own when possible holding the ball up and getting others involved whilst occasionally coming deeper to
dictate the player whilst they go on beyond.

Team Instructions:
This is the first game of the season and, as such, it is the perfect stage to go out there and show the rest of the league that we mean business. We go in to this game knowing that nothing but our best will be good enough and so the players are going to leave everything on the field. The gameplan is to go out and take the match to Birmingham City with a high tempo, physical performance. I want my players to challenge for every ball, to cover every blade of grass and to let the Birmingham players know that they are not going to have it easy.
We will set up in a fluid 4-3-3 formation that will enable us to be dynamic in both attack and defence. We have a good number of high stamina players who will be utilised to great effect in this formation, with players encouraged to press high up the pitch and to get forward in numbers. We are away from home against a strong outfit in our first game so we will need to be a strong, cohesive unit in order to keep a clean sheet but we will also need to be very effective in creating chances so that we can come away with 3 points and I am confident that we have the players to do so.
General Game Plan:
The 4-3-3 formation allows for a shifting midfield which lets the central players take it in turns to sit back and drive up the field respectively. With this in mind, the original line up of Gustavo holding with Valero and Ramires in front will constantly shift as the players take it in turns to contribute to the attack when possible. However, the 4-3-3 formation also places great impetus on play through the channels and so both full backs will be encouraged to press up the field and support the wingers, whilst also providing an overlap and putting crosses in themselves. With the full backs pushing up during possession of the ball, it is important that the wingers consistently track back to relieve some of the burden on the defence.
Our centre forward for this game is a prolific goalscorer but he is also a fantastic linking player. Therefore, he will be granted a free role to move around the pitch in order to optimise the efficiency of our attack. This means that he will come deep to help defend and to help start attacks, go wide to help beat the opposition full backs and also hang off the shoulder of the last man with a view to breaking behind the defence and scoring goals.
Individual Plans:
Howard: The GK's job is obvious but, as captain, it is important for him to remain vocal at all times and to marshal the team from his vantage point. Keep spirits high and keep motivating the team.
Baines + Lichtsteiner: Both are very good attacking full backs. Push forward whenever possible but make sure to keep an eye out for potential counter attacks. Only push forward if it's safe to do so.
Astori + Umtiti: Both are very good with the ball at their feet. We will be looking to play the ball out from the back quickly, with a view to getting the ball wide. Keep a steady, relatively deep line - do not get drawn out of the line and watch for runs behind.
Gustavo: Look to shield the back four. If there's a gap in the defence left by the full back, fill it in. Otherwise, move across the line looking to break up any play that goes through the middle of the park. When in possession, look to push play forward and drive though the middle.
Valero: His role today is to be the central playmaker. In defence, he will look to shield the centre from any through balls in between defenders and he will look to hassle opposition midfielders on the ball. In possession, he will look to play the ball forwards and in to space. He will always be looking for the killer through ball behind the defenders.
Ramires: Box-to-box role today - using that terrific stamina. Hassle and harry in defence and look to support the fron man when in attack. Today's game is all about physicality, keep it simple.
Cuadrado + Ljajic: In defence, track back and sit in front of the full backs, covering the gap between them and the centre backs. In attack, switch between bombing down the line and cutting between the full backs and centre backs. Look to break the offside trap and get in behind their defence. Pace is the best chance of success.
Palacio: A free role in today's game. Look to track back and play from deep when it is needed, otherwise, play off the shoulder of the last man and try to get in behind.
Substitutions:
66 minutes: Alvarez for Valero - Alvarez will provide more pace and a higher tempo game. He will play from the same instructions as Ramires.
70 minutes: Doumbia for Ljajic - Keep to the same instructions but adding extra pace and fresh legs. If needed, switch with Palacio.
80 minutes: Defore for Palacio - Proper goal poacher for the last few minutes. Play the Defoe way, off the last man and with a constant eye for goal.

General:
GEGENPRESSING is a highly-organised approach to regaining possession and minimising space for the opposition used by Dortmund, and now used by Villa. My opponents are rapidly closed down by well-rehearsed, co-ordinated pressing movements, often by two or more players, allied with intelligent positioning to restrict space for opposition to pass and move into. The best moment to win the ball is immediately after after my team just lost it. Once we have regained possession, the transition from defence to attack will be explosive. We will be an attacking team. Aim is to move the ball around efficiently and with purpose, with many forward passes and none of Spain’s useless sideway passes. Play on the counter if dominated, but move the ball around when they sit back. Passing will be quick and intelligent, players moving into space and plenty of interchange between the three attacking midfielders. Team will look at the striker as the focal point with attacking midfielders running off and beyond him, linking up efficiently. When defending Kroos and Koke will drop back to help, Vela stays up as the out ball and Sturridge prepared for anything lumped up to him. Team must attempt to block shots at all times. Deep defensive line. * When defending we will play two banks of four and be compact leaving little space in between the lines. So when defending we will go into this mode:
Kroos - Fernandinho - Gerrard - Koke
Vela - Sturridge
And when we get the ball we will look to set loose the speedsters up front with the whole team pushing up a bit to at least outside our 18 yard box and switch back to our normal formation.
Navas:
Claim crosses if possible. Always clear lines and play safe, take no rists. Looks to set off counters with his distribution.
Garay and Koscielny:
Deals with opposition attackers. Koscielny keeps an eye on their attacking midfielder when he gets close to the 18 yard line. Koscielny will also mark their striker closely not allowing him space to turn. Koscielny or Fernandinho will deal with knock-downs to their supporting player depending on who is closer. Garay will try and win headers when long balls are played towards the back line. Garay will also clean up any balls / players who manage to get past Koscielny. Koscielny will be the centre half who steps up and clears up balls before it reaches their attackers, but must only go if he’s 100% sure he’ll get it. Go up for corners. If in the event that an attacking midfielder / second striker is not played then Koscielny will just have to deal with the midfield runner but not get dragged too far out of his defensive line.
Zabaleta and Shaw:
Zabaleta will be disciplined for this match, but when we get the ball and whoever the opposition manager plays goes on one of his inside runs Zabaleta will look to overlap Vela and run into the box. Zabaleta and Shaw both will show the opposition wide players to their weak foot, threat weakens when they are shown away from goal. Both will sit back when without the ball, but Shaw will bomb forward when the opportunity arises. Main aim is to provide width and provide extra bodies in midfield to link up play. They should thump in crosses to Sturridge when it’s on. Stays back for corners. Must not commit to tackles otherwise wingers will skip past them, just stay close, limit their space and show them onto their weaker foot.
Fernandinho and Gerrard:
Sits deep, breaks up play and snap at their heels. Fernandinho is an engine that can cover a lot of ground when defending. Fernandinho will hardly ever go past the half-way line. Gerrard will buzz around and dictate play, bursting forwards at times to provide an extra body in attack. Gerrard will be a bit ahead of Fernandinho to be more involved in exchanging passes with full backs / Kroos, even going level with Kroos at times to use his incredible vision to find teammates. Ramsey will need to make himself a goal threat with his late runs into the box in this match. Fernandinho stays close to the centre halves. Both sprays balls wide to fullbacks when they get forward. Stays back for corners. Will not allow the opposition any time on the ball in front of centre halves. Fernandinho sticks to position when fullbacks fly forwards, providing cover if needed. Gerrard drops deeper when this happens.
Vela, Kroos and Koke:
Will constantly swap positions with each other. Will look to thread through balls to Sturridge and exchange passes with each other. Constantly drifting in and out of position, into space to make it difficult to mark. Can cross when out wide. Koke should always track back to help the fullbacks and midfield when defending. Kroos can burst past Sturridge and shoot if needed. Constantly runs at their defence. All will press the opposition when without the ball. Koke will be drifting inside a lot and because he has stamina of six men he will therefore chase down the ball a lot and aim to create when he gets the ball. In this match when we don’t have the ball I will need Vela to sit on their deep lying midfielder and disrupt him from running forwards. When Zabaleta gets forward during his rare forward runs Koke will attempt to find him at the far post for Zabaleta to knock the ball across goal for Sturridge Kroos Gerrard to knock in, with Koke arriving late to gobble up possible rebounds. They will also try and double up on a full back if required (like Robben and Ribery both attacking the same fullback).
Sturridge:
Holds up the ball, brings the three attacking midfielders into play. Play on the shoulder of the last man, always sets himself at the far post for crosses. Will keep the centre halves occupied. Will chase down opposition centre halves when they have the ball.

Winning/Drawing:
75 mins: Gerrard OFF Can ON
Can replaces Gerrard and we go 4-3-3 with Kroos dropping back. We will then aim to keep the ball for as long as possible even if we have to do pointless sideway passing but if space opens up, work the ball forwards to try and create a chance.
Losing:
75 mins: Fernandinho OFF Destro ON
Go 4-2-4 with Sturridge Destro centre Vela right Koke left. Kroos supports, Gerrard holds and sprays passes from deep. All out attack, have to go level at least if not win it. When we lose the ball Koke goes central to provide support in centre mid and Sturridge goes to the left to provide that outlet. Switch back when we have the ball. Both full backs go forwards in turns and we will squeeze them back into their 18 yard box. Our CBs will not stick too close to the striker in case they get turned, Koscielny will be ready to chase back towards goal while Garay will position himself to nick the ball off the attacker as soon as he gets it. Whatever second attacker from the opposition will be watched by the full back staying back depending on which side.
Scored the goal(s) to get all three points / to win the tie after the Destro change:
Whatever minute: Sturridge OFF Toprak ON
Whatever minute: Vela OFF De Bruyne ON
They’re gonna pen us back whether we like it or not, so we will go 5-4-1 with Toprak slotting into a back 5. Kroos will come into the centre along with Gerrard with De Bruyne right and Koke left, Destro up front. De Bruyne will provide the counter attacking threat when we win the ball back and him and Destro will break at their (supposedly) abandoned defence. This is not me playing defensive football voluntarily, this is the opposition forcing us into our box like we would’ve forced them into theirs and me providing a counter measure to this situation.

GAME PLAN
I want my team to play counter attacking football. We have the players to play that way and we have the potential danger of harming our opposition. We want to play a pressing game where we shall play one defensive midfielder and one box to box midfielder. Schwein will be the box to box midfielder but he shall be playing as a DM when we are off the ball. Our team will be aiming to obtain the ball as soon as possible and then punish the opposition with swift attacks. We want to play a deep defensive line and keep things tight on the pitch. We want to reduce the amount of freedom the opposition has on the ball. Our players will keep close to the oppositions men and push them back. We want to force errors out of them and push off the ball. Our two centre backs will stick together, whether that is when we are off the ball or when we are up for set pieces. The full backs shall cover the goal area during these set pieces. Our full backs shall be keeping our defensive line tight when we are off the ball, sticking in a line with our centre backs. However on the ball I want them moving forward and helping form the attacks. Our two defensive midfielders will be looking to slow down play, hold the ball and create opportunities by moving the ball forward as quick as possible. Defensively this will force the game to be tight and cancel out the opposition. On the ball it should free up space for our attackers and move forward as quickly as possible.
Our attacking play will be fast and neat. Our two defensive midfielders will be breaking up play, holding on to the ball and then setting our wingers free. This means we want to play with plenty of pace. Out of our 2 wingers Lavezzi is our fastest and we are likely to get some space in this area. Di Maria is playing central today so he should be able to make plenty of runs. This shows that we have the capability of pulling of counter attacking football successfully. Our wingers and number 10 shall be integrating with each other’s play and therefore we will have plenty of options during our attacks. All of our attackers will be looking to work their way into space using physical and skilful football. Our full backs will also be there during attacks so our wingers can cut inside more as well.
Overall we need to be in their faces by continuously pressing them and keeping all men behind the ball. When on the ball we need to be direct and composed. We need to dominate the midfield battle and control the game how we want it to be controlled. Try and keep it tight for them.
POSITIONAL TACTICS
Piszczek should play as a wing back. I want him to move forward during our attacks. He should stay out wide to create a crossing option. I want him to create space for our wingers. While defending Piszczek should try and push the player back. If he can’t do that he should push him out wide to a position where he has to kick the ball off. Bernat should play the same way.
Subotic should use his height and strength to keep the striker(s) out of the game. I want him to keep with that attacker at all times or keep him offside. He should try and header every ball out of the box or kick it away preferably to the wingers. He should only go up for corners/free kicks. Chiellini should play the same way as Subotic.
Bender will be the defensive midfielder. He should look to disrupt their attacking play and reduce the space around their playmaker. He should hold his position and not get caught up field. I want him to control the style of the game we play. While acting as cover for our defence he should also separate the midfield from the defence by keeping hold of the ball and form attacks.
Schwein will be our box-box midfielder. I want him to identify spaces up the pitch. He should take hold of the ball and supply it to any of the front 3 ahead and try to exploit any space. When we’re attacking I want him to move up and stay in space. When off the ball he should be a ball winning player.
I want Candreva to use his skill and pace and make runs into the box. He must use his pace to outrun the full back but also his quality control of the ball to dribble round him. When we’re off the ball I want him help Piszczek cover their full back. I would like Lavezzi to do the same.
Di Maria should use his pace and strength to make runs into the box and opening up space for Costa. He will look to supply the ball to the wingers as well. Try and force their defensive midfielder to move out of position and allow our wingers to use that space by running into the centre. Off the ball he should drop back.
I would like Di Maria, Candreva and Lavezzi to intersect and change positions.
Costa must use his pace and skill to open up spaces for the wingers and central players to run into. He should make runs to the wing forcing the centre backs out wide. He should look to overpower their defenders with his pace and strength and height. He should constantly look to move into space to create himself as an option for the defence. When we’re defending he should mark the player at the edge of the box.

We have a couple of first team injuries but brought in two fine replacements as too not disrupt the shape or formation we aim to use this season, they slot right in where Debuchy and Vidal have left the void.
Ricardo and Sciglio at fullback, when we attack one goes at a time the other sits back.
Pirlo is my playmaker, he controls the game with his, at time simplistict passing, not the quickest player Pirlo leaves that sort of exertion to his youthful midfield partners Fredy Guarin and Paul Pogba. Defending he will be aided by Pogba and Guarin who will do the marking job on the two most advanced midfielders. Both extremely hard working lads who will get up and down the pitch helping both defence and attack. They sit as a three with Pogba picking up the AM, Vidal taking care of business on the other player. They will break up play and get it moving forward, most likely Pogba to burst forward to assist Benzema. He is a threat and can score from varous angles/ranges, he is a very dynamic player with great stamina, one who never gives up. He will thrive in this position in the midfield trio and they will be no pushovers for anyone this season. Guarin is sort of mix of the two, can pass the ball about, defend the lines and also break forward.. Look to pcik up from Pirlo and drive forward looking for more advanced passing to those in front of him or push forward with the ball with Pogba sitting just a bit behind.
With Pogba also supporting we are a huge goal threat to anyone. Benzema for high balls needs to leap early to get above the CB, and with his back to goal look to set up others who are driving in.

Manchester United vs Hull. Old Trafford.
Our second game, and a big match at our home ground. In our aim to get top 4 our home form is huge. Hull are a young team that are improving, we need to use our experience to control the game, in possession and defending.
At home, with the fans behind us, we want to take the game to the opposition, we feel we can make Hull’s young players choke, and pick up all 3 points.
We will use all the space of our home park, playing with lots of width.
------------ G.Buffon
Rafael – Pepe – Vertonghen – Filipe
--- Schneiderlin – Fabregas
Navas ------ Oscar -------- Robben
------------ C.Tevez
Subs. Zieler, Smalling, Telles, Vilhena, Rakitic, Cazorla, Balotelli
Attacking 4-2-3-1. Playing with plenty of width. We have fantastic pace down the wings to stretch Hull, creating gaps in their formation.
We will look to defend high up the pitch, playing a high pressing game. Tevez leads from the front with his natural high work rate.
The formation is rigid in defence, fluid in attack. Navas keeps the width on the right, but we encourage Robben, Oscar and Tevez to interchange, pop-up in different positions, drag opposition defenders out of position, and create openings for team-mates.
We feel our team has a naturally high work rate, and this will allow us to play the high pressing game.
We will be direct and attack with pace. Cesc is the playmaker, in the cm role. Our attacking four will really stretch the opposition with their movement, this should open up the opposition and allow Cesc and Morgan to control the game for us.
Additional team advice
In the first 15 mins when Hull have possession, we press high, going at them 100mph (still keeping shape). In possession, we will be very patient for the first 15 minutes. Keep ball, frustrate Hull, they wont get the chance to settle on the ball, and tire them out as they attempt to close us down and we move the ball about the pitch.
Last resort when we commit bodies forward, and Hull can possibly counter is tactical fouling, only in their half. First priority is obviously to win the ball, if not, and Hull can break then make a niggling foul, nothing rash or strong, just niggling challenges high up the pitch. Helps to frustrate Hull’s players further. Stop if booked obviously.
Although we press high up the park, the defence will ensure that as Hull advance further up the park, the line drops deep so there is no space in behind. As Hull advance into higher areas of the park and into our half, our shape will resemble a 4-1-4-1.
Schneiderlin drops in between defence and midfield, sweeping in between the lines. His energy and reading will be best utilised in this position. Cesc and Oscar in cm. This shape ensures that when one of our midfielders do press we will still always have 4 midfielders behind, to cover, particularly in the important central areas.
We always want at least one more defender than Hull has attacker. One full backs get forward at a time. The other stays in line with Schneiderlin, ready to break forward. Guarding against counters, allows us to get players back if possession changes quickly.
Our fb’s up against their quick wide forwards are to drop off more so they can bide their time, waiting for the right time to make the tackle and not diving in. Show him down the line to block the cross. If he does manage to get past you, there’s a chance to stop the cross.
Attack
Passing simple in our own third. Playing short and on the deck where possible. If we go long, look to find our wingers, using their pace to get in behind.
Generally direct going forward, in the opposition half we will always look to go forward and stretch the opposition where possible. Navas keeps the width on the right, his and Rafael’s direct running will pose a real threat.
Robben has more freedom to find space in central areas. Filipe is tasked with keeping the width when he gets down the left. The pace of Navas & Robben will be a real asset down the wings and will help to stretch the opposition, forcing them deep. This will create space in the centre of the park, giving time to the central players.
Cesc will orchestrate our play. We want him to be everywhere today, and get involved with everything. Control the game. Schneiderlin offers the defensive cover, he will help to drive us forward out of defence, and then stay deep at all times when we attack.
Oscar will always look to find space in between the Hull midfield and defence, where he can get on the ball, linking up and looking to create.
Tevez up top will play his natural game.
Subs.
If winning after 60 mins bring on Balotelli for Tevez. Power and pace up top against tiring Hull legs.
If winning after 70 mins bring on Rakitic for Oscar.
If winning after 80 mins bring on Vilhena for Cesc. Rakitic drops to cm.
If drawing after 65 mins bring on Balotelli for Oscar. Tevez to AM.

Overview
We are using the diamond formation today to get the most out of our defensive and offensive capabilities, pressing all over the pitch when we don't have the ball and looking to get our front 3 on the ball as much as possible when we have it.
Keeper
When distributing the ball, he should look to keep it simple and play the percentage pass. At crosses and set pieces, should look to punch rather than flap at pressurised catches.
Full Backs
Both are effective in the attacking side of the game, and their primary directive will be to push on and provide the width down their respective sides, keeping the pitch as wide as possible to try and stretch the opposition defensive line. Defensively the objective is to push the opposition winger out as wide as possible or show the wingers infield into the congested middle of the pitch if their objective is to get a cross in.
Centre Mids
Geis will be sitting at the base of the diamond looking to get himself into pockets of space so he can get the ball off the CBs and keep the ball moving, When defending, both players will look to close down the space in which the attacking midfielders will look to occupy and restrict their time on the ball. Henderson and Strootman will be utilising their high energy styles to get themselves around the pitch, being key figures in the pressing game and using their energy to get forward to make late runs and be extra attacking presences. When defending, both players are looking to press in the middle third of the pitch, pressing the CMs as they are looking to control the ball to give them little time to move it on, as well as working with the strikers to limit the attacking presence of their full backs.
Attacking Midfielder
Mata should be looking to make himself available for a pass as much as possible, having a free role at the tip of the diamond, when we have the ball in the middle of the pitch, he should be looking to drift around the space between the DM and full backs and make them have to make decisions on who goes to him. He should also look to be making late runs into the box as an attacking option when we have the ball out wide. when defending, he should be looking to occupy the defensive pivot, stop him being an out ball for the opposition.
Strikers
When attacking, Suarez will look to play a high energy game by being a willing runner down the channels and constantly drift around the defenders looking to get himself a bit of space enough for him to face the defenders and take them on. He should also use his knack of anticipating what the defenders are going to try and get the ball to fend them off and gain that crucial advantage to create a chance for himself or others. Higuain will be more looking to stay more central, so if 1 centre back drifts out of position to try and go to Mata/Suarez, he will be left with 1 defender between him and the goal. When defending, they will be the first line of defence, letting the CBs have the ball as much as they want, focusing instead of cutting off the passing lines to the full backs, working with Mata, the aim is to get their CB's/Keeper to punt it down the field with us having a better chance to win the ball back there.
Set Pieces
Corners - Mata takes the corners, the 2 CB's and Rojo go into the box, Uchida and Geis stay back to provide cover, the CBs, Rojo, Suarez and Higuain will be working as a pack to provide subtle little blocks to the defenders so a couple of them have a fairly clean run at attacking the ball, Henderson looks to annoy the opposition keeper looking to limit his ability to move around the 6 yard box. Strootman take a position just outside the box to pick up on any weak defensive headers.
Free Kicks - Suarez takes Direct FK's, with Mata occasionally taking them as the 2nd option.
For Indirect FK's, follow the same directives for Corners
Penalties - Suarez is the designated taker.
Subs
If Winning
68 mins - McCarthy for Mata - He gets involved in the pressing game, with us mostly sticking to counter attacking by keeping the 2 upfront forcing the opposition into making a choice as to wether to commit their fullbacks forward and risk the 2 on 2 regularly.
85 + 87 Mins - Callejon for Higuain and Alcacer for Suarez - Fresh legs with the added element of running down the clock.
If Losing
68 Mins - Callejon + Iturbe for Uchida + Geis - switch to a 3-5-2 with emphasis on the wings backs acting as wingers and we go all out attacking for a way to get back into the game.
83 Mins - McCarthy for Strootman - Fresh legs and a more composed passer of the ball.
If Drawing
70 Mins - McCarthy for Strootman
76 Mins - Vrsaljko for Uchida
80 Mins - Alcacer for Higuain
all subs seen as fresh legs with us keeping the same tactical style.

General. Change up from the first game where we had to defend in numbers. This time we shall be more offensive try to penetrate more by stretching play and targeting the oppositions full-backs on most attacks. We we will get most joy attacking the width and creating space for Negredo and Michu to attack and go for goal. We shall try and over power their midfield with Motta and Illara bullying their midfield and starting the quick attacks. Our passing tempo will be high as we want to create gaps and this will not happen if we are patient. Defensively we stay aggressive on set pieces. We want the transitional from defence to attack to happen in 5 seconds and stretch play wide and long. We are going for a win and will be determine to attack until the last seconds.
Diego Alves
Tall keeper that is agile and can dominate in the air. Alves to be vocal and command the area for corners and free-kicks. If a 1v1 situation arises, diego will stand tall and wait to the last second to dive. He has to be following the game and not come rushing out to participate.
Caceres and Contento
Both solid full backs with plenty of experience and know how and they have to be supportive of their respective wingers by sometimes overlapping and doubling up on fullbacks for either decoy or make the pitch bigger by stretching. Both to make interceptions rather than last ditch tackles and stay on their feet.
Albiol and Papa
I can see our CB's dominating all set-pieces as tehy tower above most attacks and are very powerful in the air. This also applies on offensive set-pieces where Albiol goes middle and Papa darts first post to flick on. Albiol to marshall the defence and make sure we are not too deep or too high although we can catch up to any pacey striker and hold off strong forwards. Both to calmly distribute forwards and if in doubt clear it out.
Illaramendi and Motta
Both very talented and reliable midfielders. Motta to be more aggressive in his approach and a proper defensive soldier to our defence. Motta to be more disciplined and patrolling the back four whilst Illa would be more productive and link up play with long and short ranges to our wingers. Illa can also go up and link up with Michu when we are deep attacking. Illa to help Motta if we are suddenly overrun.
Michu
To be assisting Negredo and be direct by running at the defence and looking for goal or slipping in a player who has more chance of scoring. Michu should help both wingers by creating space by running at goal and taking a defender or receiving the ball and shoot at sight. Michu to be more advanced and closer to Negredo throughout. When not attacking, run down at defenders to not give them any time.
Lallana and Salah
To of the best wingers that can dribble the ball with pace and control. They will be more active on the ball than the others with taking onn defenders again and again and finding key passes to Michu and Negredo. They should starting more further forward to push back the fullbacks and know that our defence is covered with Motta and Illa. Defensively they both can chase midfielders and not too deep as I expect the central midfielders to be enough.
Negredo
Top class finisher and has the ability to sprint pass players and bully them. He will playing off the last defender and trying to make a nuisance by playing along the line and drawing defenders in and out and creating space for Michu to run into or go for goal. He will expect the wingers to cross for him so he will dat first post to receive the ball and go for goal. Strong in the air and always looking to be positive and run in on at goal.
Subs: Cerci for Lallana 70mins. More creative role and look to link and create chances than run at defenders.
Holtby for Michu 75mins.Same role as Michu and try to be more direct at goal.

Srna and Adnan have great shots on them, when one goes forward the other will stay back.
Demi will mark the main striker while Kjaer will head away an loose balls into the box
Monto is the maestro in front of the defence. Setting the tempo
Kovavic, the box to box midfielder that can play a pass.
Shelvey, the creator but will also shoot from distance.
Mirallas will be direct and look to cut inside more often than not, Mertens also.
Huntelaar will play in and around the box, using whatever he is supplied. pure finisher.

--------------- G.Buffon
----- Smalling – Pepe – Vertonghen
D.Alves ------------------------- A.Telles
----- Khedira – Fabregas – Vilhena
----------- Balotelli –- Robben
Subs.
After 65 mins bring on Clichy for Telles. Fresh legs and pace in a demanding role.
If winning after 70 mins bring on Rakitic for Cesc.
If drawing or losing after 70 mins bring on Barkley for Fabregas.
If winning after 80 mins bring on Inler for Vilhena.
If losing after 80 mins bring on Navas for Alves.
If drawing after 95 mins, going to ET, bring on Barkley for Vilhena.

Tactics

Cerci for Lallana 70mins
Lanzini for Michu 70mins
Yedlin for Cacares 75mins

Penalties:- Benzema

Manchester United vs Aston Villa, Old Trafford
Pressure is on from the start, a big game at home against a team on the up. But, against a team we feel we have more quality than, and finished above last season, so at home, this is a game we must win as we aim to crack the top 4 this season.
Very few changes to our side from last season, the team know each other, and the formation. We aim to start quickly. Our team are confident, and raring to start the season with a bang, and to capitalise on the negativity coming from the Villa camp. Win.
------------ G.Buffon
D.Alves – Pepe – Vertonghen – Filipe
------- Khedira – C.Fabregas
Navas ------ Oscar -------- Robben
------------ C.Tevez
Subs. Zieler, Smalling, Telles, Vilhena, Barkley, Cazorla, Balotelli

Portsmouth v EVERTON

-------------------Clasie-------------------
-----------Dembele---Hernanes----------
Thauvin-----------------------------Bernard
-------------------Osvaldo------------------
Subs: Stockdale, Richards, Armero, Besic, Rodwell, Hulk, Drmic

Swansea tactics
---------------------------Alves---------------------
Cacares---Albiol--Papadopulos--Rami ---Contento---
--------------------Motta-----Parejo-------------
----------Salah---------------------------Lallana
-------------------------Negredo-------------------
Subs: Baumann, Ferdinand, Cerci, Holtby, Michu, Torres, Rondon
Capt: Motta
Free kicks: Lallana
Pens: Negredo

----------------------------------Scuffet--------------------------------
Darmian---------Benatia-------------Miranda---------Alex Sandro
---------------------Witsel-------Marchisio----------------------
Walcott----------------Rodriguez-------------------Markovic
-----------------------------Rodrigo-------------------------------
subs: Patricio, Musacchio, Flanagan, De Jong, Quintero, Boetius, Rossi
In possession

--------------------------------Rodrigo-------------------------------
out of possession

SOUTHAMPTON tactics away to Birmingham City

Substitutes:
Ospina, Santon, Radu, Imbula, Alvarez, Doumbia, Defoe
Captain: Howard
Free Kick Taker: Cuadrado
Corner Taker: Valero
Penalty Taker: Palacio

(1000 words end, 2 word players like De Bruyne, please count as 1 word)
SUBS:

-----------------Pogba------Guarin----------------

----------------------Benzema----------------------
Krul, Zouma, Iturraspe, Rabiot, Morata, Memphis, Drogba
We have a couple of first team injuries but brought in two fine replacements as too not disrupt the shape or formation we aim to use this season, they slot right in where Debuchy and Vidal have left the void.
Ricardo and Sciglio at fullback, when we attack one goes at a time the other sits back.
Pirlo is my playmaker, he controls the game with his, at time simplistict passing, not the quickest player Pirlo leaves that sort of exertion to his youthful midfield partners Fredy Guarin and Paul Pogba.

If drawing after 70 mins bring on Cazorla for Navas.
If drawing after 80 mins bring on Rakitic for Schneiderlin.
If losing after 60 mins bring on Balotelli for Oscar. Tevez drops to AM.
If losing after 70 mins bring on Telles for Filipe. More attacking, and fresh lb.
If losing after 70 mins bring on Rakitic for Schneiderlin.

Swansea tactics vs WBA
-------------------------------Diego Alves--------------------
-Cacares-----Papadopoulos------Albiol-------Contento
----------------------Irramendi-----Motta-------------------
------Salah-------------------Michu-----------------Lallana
-------------------------------Negredo-------------------------
Subs: Baumann, Rio, Yedlin, Prejo, Cerci, Holtby, Rondon
