so 2 a fair enough number?

allows you to keep your 1st round pick (you should want to keep him) along with someone that bursts out, or you somehow pick up or trade for?

1 is too few... theres no point in that... yes, 4 is too many... i came runner up in last season's fantasy (it still hurts) and i struggled to come up with 4 players id keep...

so 2 or 3?

btw, the scoring system will be per the nfl.com scoring system... makes it easier to read articles re nfl fantasy... i was having to convert everything into out scoring system.

ok... so we will start with 2 me thinks and we see how it goes...
ive also put in the ability to trade draft picks.

2 is a good number...
it allows you to handcuff 2 of the 3 main scoring positions (or 4 if you get jimmy graham)

i only just figured out offense lol

when i play madden, i sim defense

for such a simple sport... defense is really complicated...

but im up for it if everyone else is...
in which? keeper or standard?

should we trial it in standard and see how it goes and then add it to keeper if we like it, or just throw it in the keeper?

"I can set up the keeper league and run that and ddfp, you can run the one off?

Rage of Reaper, a 'keeper' league is same as a normal league like we had last season, however, at the end of the season you nominate x number of your players from your team to keep the following season, and all the players that were not nominated, were on waivers, free agents and rookies are the only ones available in the draft.

Using my team that started last season off the back of the draft as an example, if the "nominations" were set at 4, i would have nominated Jamaal Charles and Demarco Murray as 2 for sure, and if i had picked up rodgers who someone dropped, i would have made him my 3rd, and maybe i would not have dropped julio jones when he was placed on IR in october.
This makes you think twice about dropping a 'stud' if they pick up a season ending injury, or picking one up that someone waived (Aaron Rodgers and Julio Jones as examples).
In addition to this, when it comes to trades, you can trade draft picks for the following season."

Got ya! Makes loads of sense actually. Although frustratingly, as I wasnt part of the draft last season, no one particularly jumps out to me (Johnson was a safe bet of course). And I actually dropped Rodgers last season so I totally get what you mean about 'banking' him for next season.

But I'm happy either way. I'm like that special, over enthusiastic kid that's just happy to be part of it, haha.

Also, I feel like a defensive league MIGHT stretch my knowledge a touch too far, so I'd prefer if we're doing it, to maybe just be part of the attacking league.

So a keeper league without defence (Long term rewards)

A non keeper league without defence (More casual)

And a keeper league with defence (For the more experienced?)

Or is 3 leagues just ridiculous?

I assume we have a 'standard draft' format and not the auction one? How was it done last year, did we set a time for everyone to show up and take part live, or did most people just rely on the autopick?

posted on 1/7/14

we have a standard 'snake' draft.
this means if you have 1st pick in the 1st round, you had last pick in the 2nd round and 1st in the 3rd etc
so in a 10 team league, youd have picks 1,20,21,40,41,60.

by 'defense' league he doesnt mean having only defensive players.
it means having the standard roster like we had but you also pick a player (or two or three or four) in a defensive position such as MLB or DT or CB.
or something along those lines.

Rage of Reaper, about your excited special kid comment, i was exactly the same about it last season, and just as much now but i didnt log into ja 606 last summer to express it

Ah good, that's reassuring!

Cool, all sounds good. I've just done a few mock drafts actually, which we're quite fun, if a little daunting at first. I'm sure there are a bunch of do's and dont's, but obviously I just saw the glory and went straight for Peyton, haha.

What a noob. I was like, "urm, it's Round 8 and why is no one picking the Seahawks D". So I got them. But I'm sure there was a good reason none of the other 12 guys bothered with defense until right at the end....

Riggggght....deep pool of quality QB's. Can wait until 4th and 5th rounds and still wind up with quality.

I clearly have some reading to do....

rage of reaper... heres a few "dos and donts"

* note that my scoring is based on the nfl's standard not ours, meaning that passing is 1 point for 25 yards not 1 point for 10 yards *

QB is so 'deep' as a position you can wait till after the 5th/6th round to pick one up. this is because a top end qb (brees, arod, peyton) will get you 20-24 points on average where as a 'normal' qb will just as easily get you18-20 or more depending on match up.
however, the drop ff between the elite rbs and wrs and the rest is substantial.
a stud rb or wr will get you 20 points week in week out, and the drop off is substantial to the 12 points average they will return.

For example, taking peyton in 1st round means you miss out on ap, jmc, lmc, ml etc and your top rb wll be demarco murray best case scenario and the a risk rb with 2 standard wrs.

however, jmc first round, and a stud wr in 2nd (because youre not after a rb that you missed out on) and then another good rb and a wr, and you still have rg3, luck, stafford, cutler, newton, kaep, ryan all still available for qb.

Furthermore, kickers are open to each person.
for example, someone may chose to take a kicker that plays at least half the season indoors and so weather has less effect (saints). someone else may chose a team that will struggle to score and will end up kicking many field goals (right now, carolina panthers seem a good example). finally, you have the 3rd option of picking a kicker that will pick up guaranteed points off a good offense (broncos last season, packers maybe this).
defence is similar to kickers apart from the classic seattle and 49ers. pick a shocking offense and take the defence against it.

also, since you take a qb in the 5th round and later, you may not even draft a 2nd qb, and wait and see. i have seen that approach as well by someone.
it opens up a slot in your roster.
1 qb
4 rb
4 wr
2 te
1 k
1 def

also plan out your 'sleepers'. players that will fall in the draft and you can pick up in the 10th+ round.
i chose last season to use a sleeper on a tight end. my reasoning was that when it comes to tight ends, there is Jimmy Graham, then a huge gap to the second. i was not going to give up a first or second round pick for a tight end, which would mean i would be looking for one after the 4th round, by which time the graham, davis, thomas and the oft-injured gronkowski would be gone. so why take a 6th round tight end who would get 9-10 points when i can get a 10th round tight end who can get 8-9 points... and i ended up with jordan cameron, who was epic at the start of the season (averaging 14 points over 5 weeks) and then tailed off to the usual tight end number of 6-9.

its whichever you feel like doing.
I might take graham as my first pick in an nfl managed league, not out leagues, just so i can have him.
but rb or wr is the 'norm' in the first 2 rounds in whichever order.

Great advice, I've started a list of sleepers to make sure I have solid back up plans should my top tier players go early. Last season I ended up with just 1 QB (Stafford) after letting Rodgers go and it gave me loads more flexibility with the other positions.

You got Netflix? Or the capability to download US TV? The League is a comedy show based around a fantasy football league, but instead of focusing on that and that alone, its got a brilliant cast of characters, and is very very funny, but very crude (i like it, some might not)

It's also not very scripted, relying on the actors to just go with it. 5 seasons in, and after a shakey first few eps, its just dynamite, its one of my favourite shows.

The Shiva is their fantasy football trophy, based on a chick they were all obsessed with in college.

Seriously if you get a chance, and have a slot open for a new show, i couldnt recommend it enough.

oh ok...
i started watching The League, but never really got into it after 2 episodes... granted, didnt give it much time... might get back to it.... after the world cup

posted on 1/7/14

yep, will get back to it... i just stream from one of the many streaming sites there are.

i have time until my shows re-air... sons of anarchy is late coming on again, as is white collar.
Suits is the only show running atm, but that only once a week.

yeah those first few eps dont do it justice. Soon as season 2 hits it finds its feet.

It's all about 24 for me. Wanted to start Sons, but theres...6 (?) seasons? Just couldnt see myself catching up!
