spurs have no chance winning the top prize in club football, but it doesn't stop the support.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would say it's a different scenario though, as much as people say they are born into a club there is no attachment between you and a club. You may have reasons like it's your local team or your dad supports them but for internationals it's generally considered that in order to be a fan of that country you have to have some kind of that nationality in you (obviously this is not always true)
true. I am spurs through and through. born in the area, live in the area, dad uncle and grandfather all spurs fans.
however it just so happens that the piece of rock I was born on is England. if it was a couple of 100 km the other way I would be French, or Dutch.
Last time I had the summer buzz about England was 1998.
The PL infests the England national agenda now.
As matches go, I know I will am guaranteed a couple of belters over the next few weeks. And I hope England acquit themselves with dignity before their exit. Beyond that, meh.

International Football only matters as much to people in the summer. It's something people always moan about when it is running parallel to the football season.
In honesty, I care about my club 365 days a year- whereas I love my country but I only get up for it probably a few days either side of them playing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scottish?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Irish. What has it got to do with the nationality?
English people are just as obsessed with club loyalties as I am.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was referencing the likelihood of your country being at a major tournament.

International football is just a nice summer spectacle. Club football IS football.
Usually people only care about England when they're very young (up to 12-14), after that club rivalries become all-consuming. Fundamentally, it's hard to support a team that contains players from rival teams.
Personally, I just back teams based on current circumstances. This summer, I'd prefer Argentina, Brazil or Germany to win it.

As much as all those things should determine that are you to be a Spurs fan, it's simply not true. You can choose whether to belong as a part of Spurs, but you can't choose whether or not you are a part of being English, whether you choose take an interest in the England team is another matter but you can't really go about and pick another national team willy nilly unless you have a reason to (e.g. you grew up there).

Exactly, you would've thought the whole constant club bickering could be broken up for a month or so every four years.
The World Cup is a time for every nation to stop their petty civil wars in football and join together to celebrate their nation as one. That's why I love it. Only problem is less people are getting on board with that in this country. It's sad.
to be fair I don't think many people support England. I mean so many England games at Wembley cant even sell out and the population is about 45 million
