Average player. Not fast, not strong, not good on the ball, not good defensively - what does he bring?

Paulinho > Jenas

posted on 24/6/14

Thing is, AVB usually picked him. Sherwood usually picked him, Scolari usually picks him.....does he offer something that we're all missing??? Maybe Poch will figure out how to get the best of him, but I don't hold out a lot of hope.

He does run about a lot.

Hopefully we'll get a decent offer in, Bentaleb has looked better for Algeria.

Not sure what Paulinho offers, if anything. He's looked awful

How he has conned Scolari into starting him instead of Fernandinho is a mystery

I hope he's just knackered from continuous football from the last two years.

Big concerns over our midfield. Paulinho does what? Dembele hasn't got a creative bone in his body. Sandro can't stay fit.

I. Actually think de,bele has got some creativity. At least hell take a man on(and beat him).

Which banned clown has returned then?

the whole Brazil team with the exception of Neymar have failed to impress

like somebody said, Paulinho must be doing something right to get successively picked by the teams he plays for

i see him as quite a dynamic player that is best suited to playing further up the pitch where he can also offer a goal threat. He can use both feet, has a decent leap on him and seems to have a nack of being in the right spots at the right time

personally i wouldn't write him off. If he has another season where his performances are not up to scratch it will probably be time to review the comparability of the player within context of our own team. One season in is too early to start slinging terms like 'garbage' around

You seem to be saying two different things in your OP, one, that he is garbaggggggge, so definite, and then, two that he has shown glimpses but you are not sure what he is.

So do you think he is garbage or has promise. And as two people have already said on here that respected coaches, ie Scolari, keeps picking him, so perhaps he is not so bad, but perhaps not quite a Neymar, who grabs all the headlines.

One thing I do know, though, is that if one or two people start to slate a player, then that can become quite fashionable and it will build a head of steam without any real analysis or rationale behind it.

Perhaps we ought to reserve judgement until he has a season under the new manager's leadership, and then cast a critical eye over him, not just keep repeating what others say.

Paulinho was at his most effectove for us (about 6 out of 10) when he was playing a box to box role under avb. At the star of the season he showed a great engine which was by far the best attribute weve seen from him. Ironically, by the end of the season, youd be lucky if he broke into a sweat all game though, as well as having all the technical skills of a blackpool beach donkey.

I was hoping that the likes of Chadli, Dembele, Vertonghen and Paulinho would have a good world cup which would improve their form. Sadly this doesn't seem to be happening. Poch has really got his work cut out for next season
