"Herrera must think this club is run by complete morons."
He's not the only one
Hope the move does happen, if it falls through again over the same issues then someone at Utd really does need their job being reviewed and we all know who i mean.

Fred The Red?
We'll have to wait and see what happens, Bilbao however are a club who don't feel the need to sell on basque players and if given the choice will 99% of the time turn down any offer if they have the freedom to do so.
I think he'll sign and I think the hiccup is purely down to the way the payments made (taxes, direct payments, the player paying the buyout etc...)
I doubt it's anything the club have done wrong.
Don't get me wrong i'm certain it'll happen as he is was actually at Utd yesterday James Cooper confirmed that.
But how can we have the same buyout clause tax issue yet again ? it seems laughable. Surely we should know how to get this deal done by now, 10 months after #ucking it up
The issue this time is not to do with tax.
The issue this time is not to do with tax.

but it is, we are bidding instead of getting Herrera to buy out his contract, as he would then have to pay tax.
Surely Utd know what offer they will accept after 10 months, surely they've been in regular contact ? you'd think so anyway.
It's not to do with tax. It's to do with an amount that has to be paid to his former club. Athletic think we should pay it, United don't want to. That's my understanding of it.
Either way, you'd think Utd can get this done. If they fail yet again they will look so weak.

I think you can be fairly sure they will get this deal done.
If it was simply a case of United and Bilbao sorting a few little details out why would Bilbao go to the effort of announcing the bid had been rejected?
I can see us getting him as walking away would be a PR disaster after 2 attempts however i reckon it's going to cost us a bit more than our £29m bid

Ok, well the issue seems to be that Athletic want to "save face", so to speak. They want to keep their fans happy so want to give the impression that they tried to keep hold of one of their best players and that the decision for him to leave was completely his, rather than the Club.
A public announcement of a rejection of the bid is a pretty good way of displaying this.
I did say it won't be a surprise if Bilbao drag their heels and we end paying more than we bid.
They're fackers to deal with, Bayern, the shining light of transfer negotiations according to some, had similar problems acquiring Javi Martinez.
Just imagine if after all of this you finally get him...and he flops

End of day they don't need to sell and don't want to sell.
I just find it frustrating that Utd knew the score last summer and should know what to do this time round and yet we've still managed to mess it up (thus far)
I have read that David Moyes out the plan together to sign Ander this Summer, before he was sacked and they are following the plan to the letter
I think we should rehire him just so we can sack him again

We'll do this all Summer and bid for Messi Ronaldo Pogba Khedira Gundogan Vidal and Shaw of the last transfer window day, fail with every bid but sign Alex Song for 40 million at a quarter to midnight

On the word unavailable, given Aguero keeps getting injured I think he should now be called Kunavailable.
