I think he's delaying his captaincy so that it may motivate the remaining senior players to show him what they're capable of in a leadership role.
Inevitably, it will go to van Persie in my opinion.
Would you guys be happy with VP as captain?
Next captain, should be the player that has the greatest effect on the rest of the team
despite all the hate he has accumulated I still think rooney is that player.
But another school of thought says the captain has to be representative of the will of the club (fans), the image of the manager etc. by this criteria rooney the mercenary is not fit to captain utd
I'd give it to Rooney too but it's RVPs to lose
Btw, I just finished watching P schmeichel documentary on mutv. I can't help but feel the disconnect between players like him whose goal is man utd at whatever cost and the current generation of players who see playing for utd as a means.
It is probably a generation thing. I can't help but think of pogba throwing a hissy fit cause he was not a first team regular at 19. Put urself in fergies shoes, he mad a mistake with pogba, but pogba like rooney was disrespectful to the club and all those players that would have given a left arm to play for us.
United captain should be a natural leader, someone like Cantona or Kean. Neither Rooney or RVP seem to be natural leaders.
Id give it to RVP, He wont be the captain for more than two seasons, We'd have identify a proper leader by then, Maybe Jones or maybe someone we will buy in next 12/13 months

I know what you are saying but that was a very close knit group with the senior pros and the class of '92 etc.
They built a special bond and the club meant everything to them. Scandinavian players are a lot easier to manage and deal with too They have bonds with English clubs from a very young age don't forget.
As for the captaincy, I read LVG has some reservations about giving it to a compatriot who has only been at the club two years, in which case that implies he is sensitive to not rocking the boat on a certain level. Personally I would like Jones to get it and be established as one of our CBs. There aren't too many candidates to be fair. Fletcher is not a regular first teamer anymore or he would be the standout one for me. Of course same could be said of Jones atm.
Phil Jones is captain material. The captain should be the player with the best leadership skills and most desire to win. Jones ticks both those boxes. I remember him bossing around the likes of Carrick, Rooney and even Rio when he first joined us... imagine, an 18 yr old from blackburn chastising Rio Ferdinand

Agreed as I said but he needs to be a first team regular and lets hope he can cement his place alongside De Vrij who I think will be signed.
Rooney. We should raise his salary by another 200k, buy him his own private island to stop him from complaining about it when it gets a bit boring for him
Is say Jones is actually good shout, with one potential problem. He's captain material, but he's just not a very good player (at the moment).
Going to be a hard choice, there are not many standout candidates.
honestly guys, I hate rooneys attitude but he has been pinning for captaincy for a while. It would be a vote of zeo confidence from LVG for rooney if the captain is not rooney/rvp.
Carrick will start most games even if we buy another DM. Whether we play 433 or 352 LVG always a player who is good on the ball to dictate play from the back. In midfield Carrick will revive the ball deep and be that player, likes wise if he ends up as a CB in a back 3 he can do the same.
Carrick didn't have a great season last season but no one did for us except DDG, the season before he was fantastic and there is no reason he can't produce that form again once fit. Carrick will be a key part of LVG's plans.
tight on rooney if rvp gets it
It will be Thomas Vermaelen
tight on rooney if rvp gets it

agreed, he will be disappointed but the sort of disappointment he can live with. Give the captaincy to any1 else and rooney will explode
with a new dm, carrick will have to compete with herrera.
Make Herrera captain, just to annoy everyone
I dont think Jones has the intelligence to be captain material for United.I think you need to do alot more than be a shouting lunatic.
Tell you one player who the armband could inspire is Jonny Evans, if you see him for Northern Ireland he's like Ferdinand and Vidic rolled into one, he's facking immense

I'd give it Jones personally.
I'd give it to Mats Hummels
Got to be Schweinsteiger for me

Big risk as he hasn't even shown capabilities in being a intelligent CB.
Personally I would even contemplate him being cpatian material yet and I predict LVG doesn't either.
It'll be Rooney or RVP for me.
