Worst player last night , awful passing and who decided he should do set pieces
No. He's awful and has been all pre-season. Him and Valencia should be dust.
Think it was emphasised even more in the 2nd half when he came on for Herrera how much control of the game we lost in midfield. What really irks me with Cleverley is that even when there's a chance to look forward he will jus pass it back to where he got it, Herrera in the games so far is a lot more positive in possession.
Just hasent improved at all the last 3 years, look at Ramsey at arsenal , I was hoping clev would take that type of route, a few difficult learning years then come into his own but they guy looks petrified of misplacing a pass so everything about his game is negative, passing backwards, never bursting forward, just looks like he plays scared
Really don't think he's anywhere near as bad as you all think he is.
The last two appearances have shocked me as to how bad he is at retaining possession. His passing, which is basically all he can do, has been woeful.

-------
He's just a very negative player, he'll very rarely lose the ball or make a bad pass but he won't create a lot either, just a very average player
He's more of an attacking midfielder than a box to box or defensive midfielder. He needs to be played further forward in the midfield to fully flourish.
For me, last night showed that his biggest problem is speed of thought. He took a split second too long on a number of occasions that led to losing possession or moves slowing down.

You could play him anywhere and it wouldn't matter. Just not good enough.

This. And the fact that when an opposition player engages him, he crumbles. He doesn't have the quick feet or skill/technicality to his game to come away from such situations with the ball. He ALWAYS loses it.
There was a myth going around for a few seasons that he was 'good in tight spaces'. He's not even good in open spaces for christs' sake!
Both Cleverley and Fletcher are average player, 4th choice CMs at best. One of them should be sold if we buy another CM, Maybe both
I'd happily play Cleverley every game if it meant we'd get rid of Valencia. I still have no idea how he's conned van Gaal as well as Moyes to carry on letting him play.
Would be funny (and cruel) that having convinced himself that he is a "LVG type player" that the moment we land back in the UK he is instantly shipped off to another team.
In short Cleverly is just a tidy, average footballer.
The only redeeming element of having Valencia in a 3-5-2 is that his role is predominantly to provide width.
His pace and power is a useful asset but he really offers nothing going forward at all.
Rafael really needs to stay fit.
Rafael really needs to stay fit

That's the problem though, he can't, if his fitness doesn't improve sharpish I can see him falling down the ladder in terms of professional football
Cleverly is a joke, get him sold, better still, give him away for free. HE IS NOT UNITED STANDARD. To describe him as a poor player, is in fact, giving him a compliment. GET RID ASAP.

I think he'd flourish under van Gaal and this system, but he simply struggles to stay fit.
To put things in perspective he's more injury prone that Vermaelen

Take zaha too.
Most of you have seen my views on Cleverley before. For those that have not, he is everything that Scholes wasn't and has not learnt anything from him.
His first touch often takes him into trouble. Then he looks for the safe option first instead of the attacking option. He just doesn't have football vision.
I've watched the game this morning, and kept an eye on clevs second half, he lost the ball a grand total of two times. One of which was a total miss kick, the other time he was fouled. He's not a great player by any stretch, but he's a tidy footballer and a good a squad player.
His finishing is also worse than Welbeck's.
Been the only player who has looked out of sorts on tour.
Thought he could flourish under LvG but I think I may have been wrong in thinking so.
Good as a squad player but if we get that centre mid we all want, I think he may be toast. I can see Everton going for him as Martinez has always been a fan.
Might be worth a flutter him being at Everton or Sunderland in a months time
