Nothing wrong with hope. It's a powerful thing and never a bad one.

For me the most horrible thing I have felt watching Chelsea was when we lost to Sunderland 3-0 at the bridge. That 10/11 season was one of the worst, definitely the worst in the Abrahomivic era. I had feeling during that December run where we were losing or drawing almost everything, that the whole club was deteriorating. The team of Drogba, Lampard, Essien, Terry, Malouda and all the players I loved watching, were never going to be the same again.

The defeat in Moscow was bad, but I still felt we had other years we could win it, and I accepted it was not our night. The champions league semi vs Barca was the most angry I have felt watching football, but again I was optimistic about next year.

However that last year under Carlo I did not feel too optimistic about much. I was pleading for us to buy Aguero, and in return we bought Torres. The only highlight from that year was David Luiz to be honest, he looked like a breath of fresh air when he came in.

Summer, the two games you mention hurt at the time but it never lasts for me, I'm generally over it within a day or two. I think I have never lost the lower division mentality and often have to pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming. I have never shed a tear for a loss, I did shed a tear at the Reebok in 2005 and in Munich in 2012, also back in 98 after the cup final. I am lucky I guess I just don't dwell on defeats.

JFDI, I admire that mate and I also do still think back to how far we've come, but I was trying to illustrate how changing expectations can suck us all in. When I think back to what I happily accepted in the seventies and eighties and whether I would be prepared to go back to that, it does make you wonder.

Anelka, Malouda and Kalou really had the shed standing on their feet every time they had the ball!

Personally form has always effected me more than cup final. Its really weird because I do really care about any silver wear, but whenever the team is picking up bad result after bad result, I really can't see much light at the end of the tunnel for the team. Whereas with a cup final I would always think there was a chance next year. The only occasion different would be the match in Munich, where there wasn't a next year!

Typical pre season fayre mate. I had been a bit sceptical about Costa but it looks like we may finally have a striker on our books mate. Catch you later, just finished my chips by southfeilds tube station and about to head back to Pompey!

______
He won the double in his first season. Have you forgotten that? To this day it was some of the best winning football I've seen in a long time so what's with the constant sniping at Carlo? He's gone on to win the CL with Real as well getting them to play some pretty good football too. You rarely give him his dues and instead keep harping on about the 2nd season when he had the rug pulled up from underneath his feet by the board. Taken us til now might I add to recover from it.

Good article Summer

Moscow 2008 when Terry steps up only needing to score to win the Champions League, slips but sends Van der Saar the wrong way, but it hits the post on the wrong side and stays out.

This still gets me

The 09 Barca... I don't think I've ever felt so mugged off in a game by a referee! What made it worse was that if that had happened to the medias beloved Man utd then they'd still be talking about it today
