Lucas and Coutinho were dire against Southampton
really poor and with City's midfield you will get completely overrun
Sterling on he other hand is turning into a player, I had my doubts of him, thought he was very overhyped but this is not the case anymore. Great player.
I did feel however that across the park there was a lack of World class player, I believe sterling is the only one that could be considered to have that potential.
tough season for Liverpool, I just cant help thinking you will be found out against the likes of city and Chelsea
but what do I know

I hate this idea that if you don't have world class players on the field, then you're not a good enough team.
United have Mata, Rooney and Van Persie, but that doesn't make them any better as a team.

Not the case anymore?
More like never was the case and I'd say Sturridge is certainly showing world class striker form and has done since he moved in January 2013. 36 goals in his last 50 games is some purple patch!

Our midfield was overrun because Gerrard and Lucas played together in holding roles, Joe Allen once again changed the game for us!
I expect to see Can or Allen play at city which will free up Gerrard to dictate play and bring Coutinho into the game much earlier.

Manquilo Strtel Lovren Moreno
--------------Gerrard
-----Henderson--Allen
Sterling---------------Coutinho
-------------Sturridge
Cantbsee br plaing a axis of lucas..hendo..gerrsrd again. Gerrard..Allen..Henderson would be much better as somr have said. Maybe we will see Lallana at some point too. Mention to Lambet as well, thought he did well when he came on.
I think we were overrun because of the formation
it was a 'flat' 4-3-3 and there was too much space between the banks of 3/4
4-2-3-1 would firm it up a bit and force teams wider
As long as the 2 are not Gerrard and Lucas ^^^
Manquilo Strtel Lovren Moreno
--------------Gerrard
-----Henderson--Allen
Sterling---------------Coutinho
-------------Sturridge
That's an interchangeable team!
Manquillo--Strtel--Lovren--Moreno
---------Gerrard--------Allen
---------------Henderson
-Sterling----------------------Coutinho
---------------Sturridge
If we get over run in the middle!
Joe Allen still has his critics but time and time again he improves our midfield!

when people talk about 'in a 2' it's in relation to a 4-4-2 with only two in the centre
4-2-3-1 doesn't have the same issues as the middle of the 3 removes a lot of space for opposition to play in

The problem there is, that you have Gerrard in a two. And nobody wants to see that, ever.

Depends who's next to him, Henderson proved he could do all of Gerrards work last season!

We have been having the same argument about lampard in a 2
Gerrard should have a look into a move to the states
City will likely play Yaya and Fernando in the centre, so we may need some physical presence in midfield or we could get bullied like we did vs Chelsea away last year.
For that reason, I'd like to see Can play, although Allen did play well yesterday.
we seem to play versus city but may bot always get the win. i expect allen to play as he usually does well against them. coutinho scores in big games and i exoect him to do much better against city. we have to ensure we dont lose.
yeah lets forget how good Gerrard was last season :/
Coutinho has gone from "potentially as good as Messi/Ronaldo" to "could be a problem". Interesting stuff.
After Coutinho's poor showing yesterday, I'd imagine Lallana might get the nod against City if he is fit. I'd also like to see Lucas replaced with Can, but I dont think Rodgers will risk it and will put in Allen instead (who had a good cameo yesterday).
I said to my mate yesterday that I think Rodgers thought we could win the game at a canter and chose to play Lucas to put him in the shop window. Did anyone else think this?
Performance needs to improve ahead of this one.
