What this signing does mean is Brendan will keep neglecting his defence to occupy Sterling, Coutinho, Danny and Balo.
They will continue to get done on the counter, especially in the CL.

I'm fairly sure we have strengthened our defence, with a new first choice CB and LB with Lovren and Moreno. We've also added cover at RB and DM with Manquillo and Can (who can also play LB)

Ofcourse, there's one thing signing the reinforcements, it's another adopting a system to make them shine.
Our defence that was so good last season, all bar Azpilicueta played under AVB and were conceding goals for fun.
Kings,
I see where you're coming from & I do believe he needs to show a bit more nous at times in our defensive set-up, if we're to collect silverware under him. What all Liverpool managers are judged on at the end of the day.
I'm willing to give him time though, to see how he evolves the defenssive structure & I believe he'll revert to his preferred 4-3-3 more often this season which will offer better balance & protection, in the big games.
He's a very talented manager who does have a bit to learn still but he's made giant strides with us in a short space of time.
We do need to concede less & at times be more conservative in away games against strong opposition if we're to compete for big trophies though regularly.
Major, agree and it will be interesting to see how he plays it, managers with attacking philosophy's like Wenger and Brendan often pay for there stubbornness, no way would Arsenal have had 9 trophyless seasons if Wenger was more tactful in the big games.

Yes Kings.
This has been the best football we've played since Roy Evans time as manager. Even then though there was often a sense of what if, we had the talent to win the league in my opinion but we often let in far too many howlers (Calamity James never helped) & dropped crucial points as a result.
You do need to concede far less than what we did last season & he knows that & will hopefully be more cautious when the time suits.
Hopefully Emre Can settles in well & provides a good screen in the centre. Lucas doesn't have the legs over 90 minutes & we look vulnerable far too often through them areas.
Whatever happens, it should be fun for us & neutrals.
I agree Kings, but if all teams took no risks, no one would watch. I agree you can go too far, but Liverpool nearly won the Prem last year and Wenger has gone a season unbeaten with an attacking philosophy. It is of course harder to win trophies playing that way.
GUNNER
Wenger back then even in that season went dirty when need be. Ever since he went all puristy, the trophies dried up. Yes you may have lacked resources compared to us, United and City but you only need to look at Simeone to see how far a bit of pragmatism can get you.
pragmatism needs the right environment to bloom though, there is no way in hell Arsenal under Wenger or post Wenger would play the way of AM...
Wenger has changed the club philosophy, he just needs to modify it as it has gone too far in one direction and does not work in the PL...............but i think he is too stubborn to accept this

Can is more of a B2b player though. Think Toure when he first moved to City. Up and down the pitch all day.
I agree Biggish, i was just using example of Simeone to show it is possible to be successful despite being financially handicapped. Funny thing was i thought Wenger was starting to smell the coffee after the win in Dortmund, then he went to Anfield and The Bridge....................
Actually so did I because last season prior to playing us they actually parked the bus at WHL and took the points...

Admitteldy very little to go on but when he played in pre-season, we instantly looked more solid regardless
Balotelli has instantly become the best striker in the world
If i was a weirdo like Greatteams i'd trawl back and check all scousers posts about Balotelli when he was at City
Costa looking a bit expansive yet?
