and have they been dross....!?
my point being that nothing is certain....however much the outlay.......
they may click right away....take a season....or never hit the heights.
to write players off after 1 season is madness.

There is a slight possibility that Tom Cleverley is worth more than Blackburn.

There's always one that takes it too far.
I think it's a crazy signing.
I don't rate Di Maria anywhere near this value, and it concerns me that we are making a marquee signing instead of addressing the real problems in the squad.
I wanted to back Moyes last year and I want to back LVG this year, but the transfer policy up to this point leaves me confused... as it did last year.

I'm not. However you can't deny that after a full season the money you spent which was around 100m mark the players that you bought were pretty shît last season.
Liverpool fans are doing the same with Balotelli. Last year no one’s talking about him (at least about his football). Now Liverpool fans reckon they’ve signed one of the best strikers in the world! Do me a favour

Difference is, Di Maria helped Argies to a WC Final, even if everything didn't actually go through him and I actually felt he didn't do his ability justice in the WC.
He also won MOTM in a CL Final. I read that he had something like 35 goals/ assists in 42 games last season for Madrid.

No disagree.
For around a year now our fans have complained about the lack of speed going forward. It's far too static with the likes of mata, Kagawa, Rooney, RVP etc. now we have a top quality player who is absolute lightning. What we have been crying out for. Yes we need a cm and yes we need a commanding cb. Di Maria at least is a big start and what we needed attacking wise
"I don't rate Di Maria anywhere near this value, and it concerns me that we are making a marquee signing instead of addressing the real problems in the squad."
Issues like having 60% possession away to Sunderland and not being able to break them down?
I think he'll be great at it myself. Certainly better than Valencia or Young.
and it concerns me that we are making a marquee signing instead of addressing the real problems in the squad.
...............
It is addressing one of the real propblems with the squad Winston.
Or do you think Nani, Valencia and Young are adequate? If you do, you are very much on your own I would think.
He also won MOTM in a CL Final. I read that he had something like 35 goals/ assists in 42 games last season for Madrid.
..................
It was 29 goals/assists. Still 9 more than all our wingers combined

This notion does my head, has for the last 3 years and I've wanted a winger every window.
When Di Maria gets playing everybody suddenly what it;s like to watch an exciting player again.
Manc Python, ESPN says he got 12 goals and 24 assists for Madrid alone last season.
Obviously he will improve the team.
But I will repeat - I think we're paying way over the odds for him, and I think we're failing to address one of the major problems in the team at the moment.
You guys disagree, fine.
I think our issues are further back up the pitch, and unless Di Maria is going to play centrally as a box to box midfielder, I don't see that changing.
"and I think we're failing to address one of the major problems in the team at the moment."
Depends on what you consider major problems. For me, cb, cm and wingers are major problems.
To be fair, I wonder how many of those assists were passes to Ronaldo.
Good signing for me, regardless of the cost. It will be interesting to see who else comes in for United now.

We know this, but this is now where we are at due to these problems not being fixed by SAF.
And, we all, also know the CM needs fixing tout de suite as well.

Ah I was going by skysports who said he got 7 goals and 22 assists

In the league I think.
Gary Neville said last night that this signing could invigorate Mata's standing within the team and get the best out of him and I agreed with it.
Though Neville also had Di Maria as a left wingback
He also said he sees Di Maria behind the striker so I don't know where Mata will play if so?
Perhaps we can play Di Maria alongside Rooney, Mata, Kagawa and Fellaini in the lesser known 'five man number ten formation'.
