How much was Di Maria really worth?

I realise that they aren't exactly like for like in terms of position, I am talking more in terms of a place in the team/squad.

Same as Ozil.

The situation was exactly the same in that Real spent big on Bale, and had to sell one of their star players to make back some of the cash.

Plus Ozil was the main assistor the season he left and similar age to Di Maria.

Di Maria is steep, but in terms of what he will bring to our attack, will be worth it.

Shaw, very steep if not daylight robbery.there is no way 30m is a fair price for him.

Ozil wouldn't say was fair so far, I'd say steep given his performance level last season.

Probably agree with the rest, Luiz was probably one golf the worst transfer fees ever.

Real are just crazy they really are. Is JR any better than Di Maria?

Di Maria does look like a smack head to be fair.

ozil won a trophy - price almost justified

Ozil is just another in the line of wide/attacking players that Wenger buys as high prices that go on to bomb. I honestly think that he will struggle to justify his price tag, as so many of those players before him have. I do like the look of Sanchez however.

nit picking but Mangala was 32million. Secondly the value of the player should be judged at the end of the season, if he has made a contribution then you could probably say the cost is justified. The other point is irrespective of what we all think is a fair price the managers who want these players are surely the ones who determine their worth as it is they who get the ceo's to pursue & finalize the transfers, hence their wish lists.

The same Ozil all you Mancs used to wish you could sign? The same Ozil most of you changed your usernames to?
You're just hoping he fails.

As for Di Maria. Top player. But there's no way he's worth £60 million. Not a chance.
Man U's desperation was well taken advantage of by Real.

There is no doubting he is a talented player. Just not convinced that he has the desire to make it in the PL. Like it might be too much like hard work for him.

Wenger has a habit of signing these types of attacking players for quite big transfer fees. They tend to have a decent spell and then fade away.

What are these types of attacking players? And are you seriously placing those guys alongside a player in the calibre of Ozil?
Sure he hasn't performed to his level yet. But the guy's a coupe.

The lightweight creative type that never seem to live up to their hype and transfer fees. Off the top of my head, Reyes, Arshavin, Hleb, Rosicky and perhaps even Cazorla. All very talented players, that haven't done as well as you'd have expected them to. Maybe being too harsh on Cazorla to be fair, but I see him fading away a bit.

They won't do as well until arsenal sign a proper dm to sit behind them.

Agree Melton. Using Arteta in that role is criminal. Another you could add to my list I suppose, but we know that he is capable of doing it in the PL. He is a victim of Wenger's obsession with tricky, intricate flair players. You have to have some steel in there to knit them all together.

Perhaps resigning Song would be a good move?

Hleb was absolutely brilliant. He didn't fade away. He got sold. So you're wrong there.

And what you're doing is placing Ozil alongside those guys. He's a level above em. He's already lived up to the hype. Can't disregard everything he's done before Arsenal. Something rival fans love doing.

I do agree with DM point though. Song resigning? Not so much as he he's horrible.

Hleb was not absolutely brilliant. He had a goal return of about 1 in 10. Lets not try to rewrite history here.

As for Ozil being on a different level, perhaps he is. That said, none of the other players that I have mentioned were bad players. They just weren't suited to the PL - especially not over a sustained period.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Ozil go the same way, but we shall see.

Oh dear. Oh dear. Just goes to show you have no idea mate. So you judge a midfielder on goals purely? Ask any Gooner what Hleb offered us. The guy was the one who'd assist the guy who assists the goal. So he's very subtle.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Di Maria flop too with that useless and disjointed Man U side tbf. So two can play that game.

I can't be bothered talking to a petulant child - that's all. If you think Hleb was a success then fair enough.

posted on 29/8/14

I said Hleb was a brilliant player for us. Which he was.
Obviously a simpleton like yourself who only judges midfielders solely based on goals will struggle to wrap his little head around it.
It's clear as daylight that you have no clue wtf you're talking about.
