Both, Robben.
Signing world class players for a club like United is a sustainable model whatever way you look at it.
Doesn't mean we should do it, however.
But I don't really understand the point on Welbeck possibly being good at Arsenal in three years time. What relevance is that to United?
Most people acknowledge he isn't good enough to start regularly as a striker for us. So the likelihood is he wouldn't become that player without games anyway.
So the fear of him becoming good isn't an issue as it wouldn't happen here and we shouldn't just keep him to stop him becoming a good player at Arsenal.
Maybe Rooney will still be better in three years time anyway? Maybe Falcao will still be better at 31 as well, if we sign him. Maybe Wilson will become amazing and get into the team. We can't say.
Sadly we have to live in the here and now as we've fallen so far behind and need quick fixes to get back up to the top. That stems from mismangement from and unfortunately for Welbeck he's been a casualty of that.
It doesn't mean we have to be like that forever. We just need to get a foothold at the top of English football. An buying class players and moving on average ones is the way to do it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, I understand that we have to buy big but I hope it is a short term fix.
Unlike some others, I don't subscribe to spending hundreds of millions every season. I would prefer in investing in youth (as an example, I'm quite happy at the club frequently spending big on youth as per £30m on Luke Shaw but wince at the thought of £50m on Falcao or even £24m on RvP). Of course, a few established WC players to subsidise the youth is good but, again, I would prefer a Ronaldo situation to a Di Maria.
That is because you are a clown Heisenberg wannabe
I see a lot of idiots have crept out from their holes since the window ended.
Unhappy about Welbeck sold? He isn't a Henry you clowns.
When Welbeck will fluff his lines and miss sitters as usual you'll see the laughs on this board.
He is a decent player and we got rid of two okayish strikers and got a world class striker. So we have a good deal.
Stop acting as if we sold Ronaldo to Madrid.
If Danny scores more than 20goals this season I will eat my words
Welbeck had to go. I am not happy about it, but he was never going to get a game ahead of our current striking options.
The Cleverley transfer irritates me more though. Why were we so desperate to offload him, yet leave players like Anderson and Fletcher in the team (Fellaini too, but he's injured)?

Can we arrange the words to be like these?

Don't hate leaving players that's a gooner trait.
begs the question, why has it not been sorted out years ago?

Just maybe, through your sheeplike perception, you have failed to recognise that both are a lot more useful to MUFC as a club/team/squad (and that is what is all about) than Cleverley was ever going to be.
The Fellaini hatred on these boards is actually moving beyond nonsense onto rampant ignorance..
As for Welbeck, he too was never going to be good enough for MUFC. Should not have been allowed to go to AFC though.
