Transfer Values

Definitely agree that we let Welbeck go on the cheap. Shaw was probably too much, but if he becomes the best LB in the league (as is entirely possible) and stays with us for his whole career the £27m will be definitely worth it.

My thoughts are that I'd much prefer the United players than the Arsenal ones.

Why do Arsenal fans think that spending less and finishing 4th is some sort of accomplishment to boast about?

Last year and this year we're different due to high gees for Ozil and Sanchez but in previous seasons we were getting outspent by the likes of QPR, Spurs, Liverpool etc and regularly finishing above them

4th is better than 7th,... isnt that Uniteds target this season?

Looking at both ours and man utds squad we both need 2 players in the same positions. A DM and a CB

I actually think United are fine in Midfield they have Herrera and Carrick for that pivot position whereas we have Flamini and Arteta...

A commanding CB is a must for us and United

Terrible article.

As for being outspent you might want to have a look at your wage bill. When you're giving the likes of Bendtner 50k a week (up there with our top earners till Bale went worldy and Ade signed) it kind of distorts the transfer fee debate.

With 'English tax' the Welbeck fee is about right but without it I'd say he's more £10-12m range. I don't think he's actually done anything to prove that he's worth more.

That's because you don't actually watch him.

If he was playing for Porto he'd be going for nearer to £30m, he has all the raw attributes.

Would all these people saying we've overpaid rather that the money was/has been spent on players that WILL improve us or we pull an Arsenal offer peanuts for players end up getting players who barely make any difference and our shareholders make a killing each year?

Nobody is complaining about the money spent, we will be doing so almost every season going forward as Woodward has already said.

We are yet to know whether Rojo, Blind, Shaw and Herrera can make the step up yet though, if not we in an even worse situation than we were in May.

so because I have an opinion on him I apparently don't watch him?

Maybe he would (I don't think he would IMO I think that's madness) at Porto but at the end of the day he doesn't get regular playing time in his favoured position at United so he can't fully showcase his talents hence from what I have seen I believe he is a £10m-£12m player.

I guess we will see. But if you think Welbeck is on par with the likes of McCormack, Borini, Ulloa, Long ect I can't think you have seen too much of him.

I'd say he's worth over £20m because of the sums paid for the likes of Markovic, Lukaku, Lallana, Shaw, Chambers ect.

Arsenal have a steal at £16m, even if he flops he will sell on at £10m+, but I think he will be a hit.

It's a fair point but we're looking at how much I think he's worth based on what I see of him not compared to others and yes I would rate him higher than all of those attackers.

Problem with valuing a player is there are so many other factors besides a player's ability. The relationship between the two clubs, the player's wages, the timing of the deal, the availability of other players I can go on and on. To single out the players ability as the only factor to go by on judging how much he is worth is nigh on impossible there are to many noises that distort the market.

Welbeck's price is a strange one as you didnt have any real need to sell him with Hernandez also going out the door
