I think it's just the preliminary offer announced Thursday evening.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/11090972/Tottenham-Hotspur-braced-for-takeover-bid-from-American-company-Cain-Hoy.html

They have announced an intention to bid so we must declare our holdings as per rule 2.10.
There's still almost a month before Cain Hoy have to make a bid or walk away.

Can someone explain that to me in ordinary language?

Cain Hoy have been set up (backed by Guggenheim) with the intention of buying THFC and have formally announced their intention to make a bid. At this moment there is an assesment period and they have until 10 October to make a formal bid or withdraw their intention.

"Can someone explain that to me in ordinary language?"

THFC are announcing how many shares of each type have been issued by the club, so a potential buyer knows how much of each they would have to buy up to take control.

Basically they have to comply with the takeover code, listing your share price

From the rules i gathered that an official offer had been made to the board and they had to declare the holdings before 9am next working day, which would mean an offer to the board this morning.

King, you'd be correct in saying that

The other problem is who they're dealing with, I can't see a quick turnaround from either party

As far as I understand no offer has been made yet, just notice of intent.

An interest has been made in a takeover, but no offer has been made, Spurs just complying in accordance with the takeover code

If it is a firm intention then we can expect an announcement from the offerer before 9am tomorrow by the look of it

Can we not get an idea of the value of the club? Because, to me it's lower than I expected by a mile?

is a valuation of the squad.

70m a fair approximation of the market worth of the WHL site and NDP land currently bought up ??

So you get close to a 300m valuation just on basic assets.

But each share market value is about 39p? I know jack about this sort of thing but surely the amount if shares above means we are not worth as much we though?

"But each share market value is about 39p?"

That values the club at 83m odd min, or 83+90m odd if the buyer is also going to wipe out the likely current debt.

Which is a lot lower than I expected. I'm actually shocked.

Do these shares include Enic's private holding of 85%?

Who has actually valued THFC at 39p/share ??

I couldn’t understand this either. The above implies the 85% is worth just over 100million, so a total value of around 115million.

When you consider we’re due another 40million in revenue from Gareth Bale (plus outstanding Modric money), television contracts are worth around 80million per year, a squad with a paper value of 100million plus alone and that we own acres of North London (and have planning permission for a money-spinning stadium), how can we only be worth 115million?

Something isn’t quite right there.

1 billion sounded more right to me...
