I have a look at our team and in my view our attacking force in general isnt the problem.
----------------------------
Agreed! The problem is that the team as a whole keep giving the ball away cheaply and leave our defence exposed.
And yet Welbeck still had 4 very good chances, and didn't hit the target.
___________
I give you that, DJ and I agree with you on this. We really didnt create too many goalscoring opportunities for our forwards but in two cases he really need to hit at least a target but they all were far off.

agree with my esteemed colleague here. Our problem is poor tactics and poor personal at critical positions. Our problems are the 4-1-4-1 that Wenger deploys, the Ozil out wide and Ramsey at CAM and no proper defensive midfielder.
True, but at least he is getting in those goalscoring positions against good sides, which is difficult enough. His finishing is poor though, you will have to accept that, but he will get more chances against the smaller sides.

We're scrapping the bottom of the barrel, but you're right. Welbeck does get into these positions. But he doesn't have the natural ruthless finishing of a Sturridge.
Some strikers do improve their finishing with time, it's hard to believe but in his first full season Suarez only scored 11 in all competitions, his finishing was woeful at times early in his career. Sturridge frustrated with his finishing at Chelsea.
There are other examples as well. Welbeck isn't a natural finisher but I reckon it will improve with time.
Danny Hylton is a better finisher than Danny Welbeck.
If folks would take a minute to appreciate where Welbeck played for United they might come to realise why his goal tally was average.
Being played out wide to accommodate Rooney and RvP is certainly not going to yield 20+ goals a season. However playing in the number nine role I see no reason why he can’t achieve a decent return for us.
His stats are very similar to Giroud who was capable of 20+ goals a season and has pace akin to Susan Boyle.
I’m not Welbeck’s biggest fan but certainly have the foresight to understand why he was signed and I'm not going to start castigating the guy after two games, even in consideration of his limitations.

RvP missed a lot of games last season, yet Welbeck still only scored 9 in 25, most of which were in an uncharacteristic purple patch where the ball tended to bounce in off his 'arris.
D'Jeezus Mackaroni
Welbeck played in wide positions and very rarely through the middle. How many games did Welbeck start for United in the number 9 role?
Also unsure why you are attempting to compare him to RvP??

I didn't compare him to RvP. You said Welbeck couldn't get games up front because of RvP but he was injured a lot. Welbeck started 22 games up front last season.
D'Jeezus Mackaroni
So assuming your figures are accurate a return of 20+ goals in all competitions (in light of his previous exploits for United) is not that inconceivable.

Wenger needs to give Akpom a chance.

Disgusting article.

Why, because it is okay to criticise a 19 year old who has already had two years missed due to serious injury but not an experienced international striker who cost us £16m...
Double standards throughout the comments.
Sanogo is not a footballer so he's not better than anybody.

Welbeck has been poor so far - but still well ahead of Yaya SoNoGoals who needs to go out on loan to see if he's got anything at all - he's like Bambi on ice...
Usually thought of DJM as a rational, measured poster.
Anybody that suggest Sanogo is better than Welbeck should start following synchronised swimming.
