Short passing is really good. Long passing can be good but is too contextual, you can put full power on it and it'll be a delicate ball lofted about 25-30 yards.
Playing as Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, their play style was very realistic, focused on passing, Messi dropping deep, although that's been the case with most opposition on superstar so far. It's really difficult to counter, I imagine you'd need a ridiculous amount of space and a really fast player to get any joy. Didn't have much possession but still got goals through Marcelo and Ronaldo to win.
I scored a PES 6 goal recently where England were camped around my area, Rosicky got the ball and just ran most the length of the pitch and put it in the net - it didn't feel cheap because they left so much space open, I used a player who could accelerate well and it's a chance you don't get often - I can't imagine scoring many like that here.
That's another one of my problems with PES lately. The power bar means almost nothing. Sometimes you can tap a button and the ball goes flying just far enough that the player running after it only nearly gets to it before it rolls out of play or to a defender/keeper.

4za sucks
I'd say the opposite, at least with shots. If you want anything other than a light shot you need to go at least halfway with power, it leaves you nowhere to go if you want to really smash it. Don't think everyone would agree but shooting in PES 6 is the best it's ever been, only in certain situations do you really want to go over half power.
Anyone else with me in thinking set-pieces of any kind are absolutely hateful? I like the off the ball controls, they actually work really well, but that's about it. Takes ages to move the camera, hate the dotted line.
Imo, this years beats FIFA...its a much more rerwarding game. I like it to FIFA is cod on core and pes is cod on hardcore?
One is for casual gamers, the other is for total football simulation lovers.
Really enjoying the demo. Prefer it to fifa which is nothing new for me. Now to see if the final game holds up.
Getting more used to sprinting, dribbling and skill moves. Also getting better at counter attacks, I find zooming the camera in actually helps.
Still don't like the set-pieces. Why does everyone stand on the edge of the box for corners? So far, just about every high corner has been claimed by the keeper/headed away and if you can fire in a low corner it's a goal.
I sort of like the shooting, there doesn't seem to be anything overpowered or exploitable (whereas there seems to be at least one sure-fire scoring method in each FIFA), but there's no real learning curve. Just 3/4 power every time.
Played both Demo's and PES wins by a mile! The game is very easy on the eye and plays near perfect.
Im so looking forward to it on the PS4!
FIFA is still good, but its getting closer and closer!
I wouldn't say perfect, but general play definitely seems fun and realistic
Just had a couple of good games. First beat Barca with Bayern and really utilised Robben and Ribery's pace, pulled off a really nice trick with the former. Then got a 1-0 win as Juve against Atletico. Some nice passing and created openings nicely.
The shooting seems like the opposite of FIFA in recent years. In FIFA you just learn to score the same goals over and over again, whereas in the demo shooting looks nice but it's quite difficult to plan for it since you don't really know what type of shot the player's gonna go for.
Just discovered that 'combined abilities' are literally just that, taking actual stats and averaging them to find out how good a player is at a certain thing. Don't know if this creates an actual stat in itself or if it's just an indication, but don't really see the point of it
Really struggling to find gameplay issues with this demo. It's really really enjoyable. However I am weary. I know konami's record of demos to final product. Not getting my hopes up quite yet.
Just out of curiosity what system are you guys playing the demo on?
PS3
Found a few flaws that I'm really disappointed with.
1. Awful goalkeeping is still present. Goal keepers don't so much as five as they do fall over to the side. Let in a lot of goals that should be saved.
2. There has been a few times where my defender will run past a ball the is literally at their feet allowing the attacking player through on goal. May be caused by my lack of skill.
3. Ever present super sonic ai defender speed. Feck off already with this.
Other than that it's a dream to play
The goalkeepers have been pretty solid for me, no howlers so far. They seem a bit reluctant to come off their line at times (again, this seems to be the opposite of FIFA, as one major issue concerns goalkeepers standing way off their lines).
I'd agree with point 2, just a little bit more awareness would be nice.
The only things I really don't like are free kicks and corners. They really are shocking.
Played some more games. Still generally enjoying it - goes without saying that the set pieces are still dire - but have found some issues that I think could do with some work:
1. The players initially felt a bit slow off the mark and although I've gotten used to the acceleration in most parts, there's one area where it still stands out as being a bit too slow: the penalty areas. As RTM mentioned, whether it's trying to latch onto the rebound or make a desperate clearance, they just seem to react too slowly considering they're top players (this only seems to be an issue for the player controlled team). Sometimes it's an issue with player switching or pass lock on. RTM mentions 'supersonic AI defenders' which I don't agree with, I just think that might be an extension of this. Credit to the AI though, shows they read the game well.
2. If you bring the keeper out, you WILL get chipped and it WILL be a goal. Dunno if it's due to the difficulty or ball physics, but unless the keeper gets to the ball (which, in fairness, they do a lot of the time) the CPU tends to punish you ruthlessly with a chip, whatever the player.
3. Refs seem overly keen to play advantage where there is none or not give a foul when there is one. A bit too lenient, basically. Thankfully they get it right most of the time.
My favourite features are probably the dribbling, skills, defending, ground passes and understated physicality. Also, it actually looks like a game of football.
Ok going to see if I am "lucky". When ever shooting (I use the advanced shooting) inside the 18 yard box I have the uncanny knack of hitting the crossbar. I have noticed that 7/10 high shots will probably hit the crossbar, has anyone else noticed this?
Not really I do feel there's not much consistency to shots (or, more annoyingly, high passes) but you can still hit a satisfying power strike and they look nice.
I dont have this problem....I use manual shooting. Is that what you mean by advanced? I did however have this problem when playing Fifa. I despise that game.
Just tried advanced shooting again. Remembered there's that weird split-second delay for some reason.
Just curious, is there both an Advanced and Manual setting?
Ill have to give it a go then.
Played a few games of the FIFA 15 demo (PS3). Not as bad as I expected tbh, but still plenty of shortcomings.
Considering I had to play 3 minute halves (compared to 7-10 in the PES demo) there were a ridiculous number of chances/goals. Defensive AI is poor, there's no real shape to the defence. The attacking AI is good at capitalising and working its way into the box, pretty much every goal came from within 15 yards. From my point of view it was far too easy to just sprint into a good scoring position, especially with the likes of Messi, Neymar, Lavezzi.
Free kicks are ridiculously easy and require little skill, or even trial and error to work out; I've already scored two with Messi. I guess they're less of a chore than PES, but the corners aren't great for different reasons. Any defenders up in the opposition's box seem completely disinterested and wander back before the ball even arrives in the box. There don't seem to be any player marking settings.
The team management overhaul was needed, but does little to actually make tactics easier to organise.
At least I could actually manage a few games, last year the demo was basically unplayable.
Played a couple of games of PES with manual shooting last night. Obviously it takes a few shots to get used to and it's more difficult to hit the target, but it was very responsive and I felt in full control. Still wish you didn't have to use so much power every time, but I think manual could get the best out of the shooting mechanics.
Still got no idea what advanced shooting is about, the players always take an extra touch. Am I doing it wrong?
To be fair, the shooting in the FIFA demo was decent.
