i always thought maguire looked like a talent, has he signed permanently for St. Mirren?

Forrest aside, it seems as though celtic haven't brought a youth player through for ages, probably not the case but just how it appears

Rangers would not be playing so many young players if they had the cash. Their hand has been forced to a certain extent and who knows, it may work out extremely well for them.

Our -19s seemingly stroll through much of their opposition, and if anyone should know the set-up at CP it will be Lenny, what with his experience in that role.

Either our squad is too big, or they're not good enough to break through.

Did that young lad sign for Chelsea in the end?

Auchinairn, calm yer jets. Nothing has been won yet, and you've played Motherwell.

We'll see how the kids are getting on in February.

also the twardzik twins will develop.

Tim, the league was won a few months back though and a few young lads, Gregg Wylde especially, played their part in it...

Keatings is banging the goals in and I think he should merit at least some game time against the likes of Dunfermline,St Mirren etc.

I think he may be injured though but Greig Spence isn't and he is another good young striker.

Surely Toshney could have done a better job than Danny did on Sat and after that performance Lennon must now realise it. We need a CB, so give the boy a chance.

Who was the last manager to push youth players through?
It just appears that there is too much riding on games for a manager to entrust winning on the shoulders of prospects.
They should be the bulk of the league cup squad. If we had bigger leagues the risks would not be so heavy.

failure to develop, promote and integrate promising players into 1st team players should be seen as a failure at any football. Unfortunately, teams have been to eager to buy more experienced professionals.

Both side of the OF should have been doing more of this, but neccessity has driven rangers more

hooping i agree.hes a strong lad.comes from a die hard celtic family too.knows what to wear the jersey means.

you look at the England premier teams. Spurs and Man u both had young teams. Everton had a 17 year old on the park on saturday.

Are the young players so far behind here? or do we just kill them by not playing them.

its not just about celtic or rangers its also about the future of the national team.

...

We kill them by not playing them or loaning more of them out and by getting rid of our reserve league.

Mike McGlinchey is a prime example of this. Could have been a cracking player, never got his chance, was left to rot and is playing in New Zealand!

All valid points H.W. ... BUT!!! it`s one thing us playing the youth you mentioned, and another for them to maintain their place when certain "senior" players return.

You forgot the third possibility - that what happened in one match in the EPL has absolutely no bearing on how youth players are brought through in Scotland.

I would guess McManus or Maloney.

We need to start ( Celtic more so) brining through youth and getting them compteting for first team places.

I also think we should stop tapping up the rest of the SPL's talented youngsters as the majority are probably not as good as our youngsters, the only main difference is they have more experience.

In saying that though I think Fyvie from the dons looks a cracking prospect and would like to see him in a celtic top more than Scott Brown!

We have some right good young scottish players so the future isn't looking all bad......until you look at Spain, Holland,Italy etc youth teams

apart from james forrest not much else has happened with celtic youth level for the last 2/3 years. lennon has had the opportunity of late to play twardzek at left back but would rather move other guys out of position. also rangers have had ther hand forced with the young players of late and once all their new players are available/fit these guys will probably dissapear.
i really think scotland should employ a system where teams like celtic rangers etc can have a b team in the lower leagues. would create greater revenues for lower leagues and give our young players competitive game time to develop.
if it works for the likes of barcelona where guys like iniesta and messi played 295 and 177 games for the b team then surely it cant be a bad thing

Filip Twardzik is not a left back. He is an attacking left winger. They tried him out at left back in pre season but not fair on the lad to play a position he is not used to for the first team. Keatings is injured until near Christmas time. I think Spence would be a good shout for some game time though. Toshney soon as well.

Forrest, Toshney and Towell all played last year. 3 youngsters given some first team experience. I think we should give more time to the youth. When we were 3-1 ahead against Dundee united we could have played a couple of youngsters.

Lostbhoys, I agree with your sentiment about the B teams, but not your facts about the Barca B team. Messi broke into the first team at the age of 17 so there's no way he would have had time to play 177 games for the B team. According to wikipedia he played 22 times for them and Iniesta played 54 times.
