The corruption involved in England getting the 1966 World Cup and Brazil getting this years was on a par with the Qatar decision.

And yet both were magnificent occasions.

Bung or no bung - someone is putting on a great show!

Is this at all surprising?

Even the other day Blatter tweeted

"Everyone in the global football community has a responsibility to act ethically. Football fans rightly demand this. FIFA has taken the lead."

You don't know whether to laugh or cry with this man and his organisation.

What's Garcia's take on all this I wonder ?

posted on 22/9/14

Garcia is reported to be that his report will not be published!

Whatever makes you think that an organisation which has as its head a person who considers a 'gift' of a £16,000 watch as a trinket, and considers it would be insulting to the donor to return it, would publish a report into corruption within its own ranks!!

The corruption involved in England getting the 1966 World Cup......................................Evidence to support this?

This is not to say there was no dodgy dealings re 1996, just want to see firm evidence of it!

It's all relative isn't it?

The World Cup is being moved around the World, it has to cover the globe.

China and India will both get it in time.

How much entertainment, pressure, lobbying, gifts are applied speeds up the process.

Or do you really think the FA woke up one morning in 1966 and found a letter saying they had won the lottery without buying a ticket?

Michael Garcia seems a straight up sort of guy, hopefully he won't let it rest .

Why is the report not being made public? Has he given any excuses - sorry, reasons- for this?

2018 though had some cracking bids and even if we didn't win it, Russia were clearly not the best.

We went with Beckham, Prince William, Lineker and a packet of crisps.

The Russians held meetings on yachts and then tossed the keys at the delegates.

No contest.

Because they consider corruption to be normal.

We need to up our bribery game. Its simple. Start giving FIFA, yachts and supercars and watch the tournaments roll into the UK.

Australia in the Southern Winter would have been ideal.

Why is giving these mugs keys to yachts and fancy gold watches even remotely acceptable?

It should be lengthy prison sentences for anyone accepting a bribe and soon the country that will actually host the best World Cup will be chosen.

World Cup bids should be about what will offer the best supporter experience and nothing else...

Japan and Korea had the World Cup a few years ago so they shouldn't be considered, pretty sure the USA had it not that long ago (in world cups) too so 2022 was really between Qatar and Australia, neither are great choices but the Qatari bid looked much better.

2018 though had some cracking bids and even if we didn't win it, Russia were clearly not the best.

IMO there is something fishyer about the 2018 bid than the 2022 one

Australian World Cup > Qatar World Cup any day.

You wouldn't need air conditioned stadia for a start, you can drink a beer in public, go visit loads of different natural (and unnatural) wonders, Australia are actually investing and improving at the game and their infrastructure is sound.

Only think Qatar offers that Australia doesn't is more money. What kind of "legacy" can possibly be left for a country who have only 0.25m citizens?

Try telling that to Abramovich's old school mate.

He stayed straight.

He now does a door to door shoe shine service in Siberia.

They would have had a better chance if they provided naked picture of their wives. From what I could gather our bid was pretty poor and even Holland received more votes than us.

Why shouldn't Holland host a World Cup, more deserving than Russia or Qatar in my opinion.

So you have no evidence to support your ridiculous allegation then? What a surprise.
