The honest truth is that people who rate Gerrard higher than Scholes do not know a lot about football. It is fine turning up and scoring screamers (Scholes has a better highlight reel by the way) but the positional awareness and discipline to play and own central midfield in a club the size and magnitude of Utd is no mean feat.
Like Fergie said, Stevie never got a kick when he came up against Scholes and Keane even Anderson. When you listen to former professionals and key men in the game they will tell you the same.
Carragher of course will rate Gerrard highly because he was a limited footballer without a lot of intelligence.
If Gerrard was this midfield Guru why did Rafa play him everywhere else most of the time instead of midfield. He brought in Alonso and Mascherano instead.
Gerrard is a quality player, no doubt but comparisons to Scholes are laughable and unfair to Gerrard due to his limited ability and discipline in his supposed 'best role' in midfield.
Gerrard was a more effective box to box and back again midfielder.
Sadly this is now seen as a thing of greatness.
They are widely sought after, Toure being best of the bunch.
But give me the vision of a Scholes or Fabregas any day of the week.
I don't want to get involved in another pointless conversation that has been done a million times before but Lampard has won 2 league cups you have him down as none
"Gerrard was a more effective box to box and back again midfielder."
Was he?
Played on the right of midfield for a while, before moving into a more advanced role ahead of two central midfielders.
He was excellent, but throughout that period, he wasn't a box to box midfielder.
I think he could have been, but his manager didn't use him that way.
Scholes played in a 4-4-2 as one of the central pairing, surely making him more of a box to box midfielder for several seasons?

I was being tactful.
He was also what is described as swashbuckling which in my book means getting in the way.
Clever - son son son - 'Falcoff, it's only a mata of time before we have our Rojo back for Shaw. (U18599)

Put Gerrard in the United teams Scholes played in he'd have won even more than Scholes did.
