Are any of Herrera, Jones, or Smalling fit?

I'd like to see us actually start with one striker for once though. Preferably Falcao as well, RVP has been well off the pace in terms of his overall contribution, and I feel like we'd fare much better with an extra passer in his place

Ain't McNair injured?

I really like Januzaj but I still wanna see what Mata can do, especially as a #10 while Rooney is suspended.

Don't think jetlag will be an issue for Falcao. Don't think Valencia was ever rested because of it after internationals.

I'm guessing same line up as the last game but with Jones in for McNair and hopefully Herrera back.

RVP doesn't deserve to start. Been poor all season.

Right in that regard!
But I can't see that happening

Carrick has been named in the squad for tonight.

He's been no worse than any of our other strikers TBF, he is in fact our highest scoring available striker!

That isn't the main reason I wouldn't mind seeing him on the bench, the main reason is I think we can't afford the luxury of playing 2 out and out strikers.

I reckon there will be a goal fest tonight with my lot on the receiving end.

Hopefully your boys up front will leave their shooting boots at home.

May the best team win!

Is RVP not out top scorer?

RvP had been awful this season. Wouldn't rely on him to score in a 1 on 1 in the 90th min at 0-0 on recent performances

Di Maria and Rooney are our joint top scorers this season.

Rvp has scored 3 in 3 or something though?

Maybe not

It'll be Januzaj's to come on.

You know what I'm buzzing off at the moment? The fact we have a luxury of swapping top players.

Rooney out? No problem. Do we go with Mata, Falcao and RvP? Or do we go with Januzaj Di Maria and Wilson. Decisions, decisions.

I really would love to see a 4-3-3. At the end of the day we have 2 quality wingers.
---------------De Gea---------------
Rafael---Jones----Rojo---Shaw
-----------Blind-----Herrera -------
------------------Mata----------------
Januzaj--------------------Di Maria
------------------Falcao--------------

It would be quite disappointing not to get to see that

RVP has looked extremely rusty at the moment but I'm certainly not going to write him off.
Personally I would start with him and Falcao uptop.

Don't think we can class Wilson as a top player just yet.

I'm going out on limb and say that we will keep a clean sheet today.

At the stage we played Real in the first CL game in 2013, we had won a lot of games. Was on to beat Chelsea's very impressive points haul from Mourinho's first era if I remember correctly. So with RvP banging goals in for fun, he was the man I wanted our big chances to fall to. I knew there wouldn't be loads, but I knew we'd get some. I got my wish, and feck me did he disappoint. He won us the league that season so can't grumble too much, an I could be wrong again here in saying, since that game, he hasn't really banged the goals in for us; or put be performances in. Coupled with SAF leaving, it hindered him massively.

LvG coming in was an absolute tonic for him I thought, and I still hope he'll rise to the competition around him (Falcao etc) and get his old form back. He fecking needs to.

Don't forget having no pre season probably hasn't helped RVP. Often players will say how important pre season is, especially the older you get.

I think he just needs a rest. He's been starting almost every game for us and the Netherlands so a drop to the bench for a game or two certainly wouldn't hurt him.

He's still a top striker, just suffering a bit from injuries/fatigue, and the constant changing around of our system and the players around him

posted on 20/10/14

RVP and Falcao will start and Mata will be the no 10 hopefully.

Is Smalling back from injury? If he is fit, he should play

He's our best CB IMO.
