In the same way that no-one is obligated to accept Suarez being better than Welbeck as fact, it's just that they are advised to do so otherwise it makes them look uninformed.

Indeed but personally I wouldn't compare that scenario to this one.
They are both incredible talents to the point where the divide between backing the two is almost split 50-50 which is extraordinary given how much of a jump they seem to be compared to the next bracket of quality players.
I don't begrudge people who think one is better than the other but I have seen no evidence to conclusively say that one is without question better than the other.
I personally like watching Ronaldo. The showboating, the ego, the celebrations, the tantrums, the 'me me me' attitude he has, all just make it more fun to watch him than Messi
Ronaldo is one incredibly insecure guy though.

Ronaldo is definitely more entertaining to watch. When things are going his way, no defender can touch him, but when they aren't, he throws a tantrum and starts trying way too hard. Sometimes it works and sometimes he ends up looking petulant, but it's certainly better to watch than Messi, who just stands around trying to avoid the ball when the going gets tough.

I couldn’t give a monkey’s either way, and I’m not sure posterity is going to be quite so kind to either of them as their current fans are, but I’m getting a sense, from this thread, that it isn’t just about football.
“Athletic Body”, “Good looking”, “Physicality and Power”....”perfected himself as an athlete”, “The showboating, the ego”.....Phwoooar.
Whereas Messi has a “microwilly” and a “bad haircut”
"but it's certainly better to watch than Messi, who just stands around trying to avoid the ball when the going gets tough."
That's total nonsense. You don't have to ridiculously denigrate one player to hype up the other player. It's as ridiculous as when people used to call Ronaldo a bottler.
Messi is the better player tho.
Most of Ronald's goal have literally been put on a plate for him. If Podolski were to be in that RM side, he would score loads too.

So against Chelsea when Mourinho puts 3 men on him, Messi works harder to find space and influence the game?
Not from what I've seen. He tends to just drift around and looks almost uninterested

I've seen a few people say that. You really need to watch Messi live, his movement against the defence is incredible.

While all Ronaldo does is blast ridiculous shots from everywhere when he's frustrated. Everyone has their share of awkward games. You said Messi hides from the ball when it's not going his way, when often the opposite happens. He stops looking to work the space and run the channels and he gets attracted to the ball, fetching it in deep positions where he can't hurt the opposition.
The point being both players have their share of frustrating games, where they do little. You're denigrating one, just to hype up the other.
I can't be bothered Sheriff. Messi's only downside is his attitude, and it's clear to see when he's frustrated in games because he doesn't shoot or run at people, he takes the easy pass sideways and sulks around.

It's clear you just really hate Ronaldo, because all your first lines are a dig at him when I'm talking about Messi here
All I'm saying is that in the tough games, Messi doesn't raise his level and try harder when a couple things don't go for him. He hides. Go back to any of the live text pages for the games Barca get knocked out of the CL and the same thing will be said in there

This is my last post because you aren't understanding what I'm saying.
Both players struggle at times in big games. It's natural.
Ronaldo's demeanor in these games is a frustrated one. He's constantly looking for space, unleashing shots whenever he can, desperately trying to make something happen. You can't say he hides, although he looks desperate and petulant. He might even kick an opponent because he's so clearly upset.
Messi's is that he drifts into the background and almost looks bored. Watch his games against Chelsea, Atletico, or Bayern. He looks like he doesn't even want the ball and when he gets it, he casually passes it away sideways when he clearly has the ability to take people on and make things happen himself. Wasn't there a game where he covered the least distance of anybody on the field barring one of the keepers? (meaning the other covered more than him)
It's quite clear Messi is the more talented of the two, but it he had Ronaldo's drive, attitude, and hunger to score, he's be head and shoulders the best player of all time.
By "makng things happen" all you mean is blazing shots all over the place. That has never and will never be Messi's game. Messi, other than missing a pen, actually played really well against Chelsea and Barca were just unlucky and squandered tons of great chances. He was unfit after a long-term injury in the disaster against Bayern - he wasn't even supposed to play. The Atletico game was probably the biggest disappointment, but it was NO WORSE than Ronaldo against the same Atletico in the finals. Those are just myths that have been sensationally built up because Messi has seen a decline in form over the past season-and-half.
