I'd say that I think Alonso & Button would be a stronger line up than Alonso & Magnussen.

But that's just my personal opinion, and I could understand that that a) they may not wish to have 2 older drivers, and b) that Magnussen fits the number 2 driver position
----------------------------------------------------------------------

yeh i must admit i think alonso and button would probably be the strongest pairing currently in F1 on a number of levels but mclaren have to think of the future and magn probably features quite heavily in mclarens plans for the future -

Alonso would not like Button as a team mate. He will not be able to bully him

you make it sound as if alonso pinches other drivers liquorice allsorts from there bag of sticky sweeties

Nah, he just ensres he's the centre of attention and makes it all about him to the detriment of his team.

McLaren, Ferrari and Renault learnt that the hard way

Well said FA, what most of us here also believe. And thanks for the links MUDD.
I noted Lewis's comment that Rye House has changed a lot, hasn't Johnny Herbert got something to do with owning that track? Something in the back of my mind but can't be certain.

Alonso throwing his toys out of the pram in 07 doesn't take away from him being one of the best in the current crop. Still have him, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Bottas as my top 4, not in that order. That would be H A R B.

Indeed, geniuses are always flawed, just amuses me why Alonso's strops are fine but Hamilton's are criminal.

Very hard to understand the logic

posted on 7/11/14

It's the same logic that leads to the conclusion that Button's slump in 2012 was entirely through his own incompetence but Hamilton's in 2011 was entirely McLaren's fault.

It baffles me how some drivers are allowed to have a bad season and others aren't.

I'm sorry, I know I've been talking about JB a lot lately but this whole McLaren-Alonso saga has got me a bit wound up.

I would make Magnussen a test driver personally

Hamilton was shocking in 2011, absolutely atrocious driving. It's funny he accepted his faults that year but his fanboys refuse to believe it

posted on 7/11/14

His mind was elsewhere in 2011. Not sure it was because of things in his personal life, dad, Nicole. Or was he genuinely feeling he wasn't being treated fairly, in which case that makes him the same as Alonso.
I do think though that the move away from Mclaren has made him grow up. He seems more down to earth and relaxed than before.
Some say he sulked after Monaco, but why should people who come anywhere other than first be overly exuberant. Unless of course they weren't expected to finish in the top three in which case I'm sure it must feel like a win for them
But when you are hoping to win and you have the means to do so and for whatever reason you don't I think it is acceptable to be a bit down.

ZDKF1 Predictions for pole

ja606_wtcbu : L Ham @ 1m14.000
ja606anti_stan : N Ros @ 1m25.420
ja606_go_cellino_go : N Ros @ 1m26.400
ja606_chelseamf : L Ham @ 1m26.622
ja606manutddaredevil : L Ham @ 1m26.800

I don't know how I came up with my time.

The number of total predictions made in the game for this race is rather low so I think we stand a good chance of scoring highly.

I think if anyone got as low as your time it would be a miracle, and would probably invoke cheating in some way or other

So my sincerest apologies for laughing WTCBU.
Mind you the expected rain may be our saviour yet. Maybe we were all banking in that.

posted on 7/11/14

It is going to rain, Nico has gone for a dry set up again. Does he not learn from his mistakes?

posted on 7/11/14

Was last years qualifying in the wet?

posted on 7/11/14

Not so sure about Rosberg being on a dry set-up compared to Hamilton.

Hamilton was quicker through the speed trap. The STRs were the absolute quickest so we can assume they're running a drier setup than average?

Daniil Kvyat 331.3
Max Verstappen 331.1
Lewis Hamilton 330.8

Notice how the BBC are now saying things like 'Alonso, who is THOUGHT to be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season".
It seems to me that nothing has been sorted at Mclaren or Ferrari.
How about this one...
SV and FA at Ferrari, with KR and ANO at Mclaren.
