I remember Graham Taylor's disastrous second spell, and O'Leary's last season, but I don't think ever things were as bad as this. Six defeats on the trot, very likely to get worse, and Lambert is still here and will continue to be here no matter how bad things get. That to me sums up the club's ambition at the moment. I truly love Villa but right now there simply isn't a worse club to support in terms of pride. The whole club is a shambles from top to bottom. Stats or no stats, we are simply a crumbling club with a woeful manager who looks lost every time he's interviewed, and an owner who is allegedly trying to sell but hasn't been seen for months and looks no closer to selling up than six months ago when he put the club up for sale. Decent players look like leaving (Delph, Vlaar).
I honestly don't know what the future holds, whether we will stay up or go down, whether a wealthy owner will come in or not, but right now our future looks bleaker than any club's in the PL. There seems to be no plan in place about where we're going, what our goals are, what sort of players we're looking to recruit, whether we're going to invest in the squad etc. It seems we're just going along game by game hoping for the best.
Sad time to support what everyone seems to have forgotten was once a very great club..
come here andy
i don't like seeing you so down.
its ok though. we can always have a giggle at arsenal
Back on track? Simple. Believe!!!
Don't write off December. We've had about the worst schedule it's possible to have. To be realistic, while losing 6 matches on the trot isn't nice, the only poor results I think we can look to are
(a) Everton, not because we lost, but because the performance was poor.
(b) QPR, because we were outfoxed by 'arry in spite of putting in one of the more positive performances for some time.
(c) Spurs, because we lost to them when for the first time for years we looked like beating them
I don't think we should be unhappy about the other 7 results, in fact overall considering the opposition they were quite good. 3 wins 1 draw 3 losses, when the teams were either at our level or considerably better. THESE ARE THE FACTS. You can only tell how we're doing when we've had the chance to mash the weaker fry, by the end of December. Top half is still on the cards. In fact, it could still be on the cards if we lose the next two matches, which we might.
West Ham and Southampton aren't streets ahead of us, they're simply on very good runs. We can beat them. It'll be tough and might not come off, but I don't think we should play them fearing the worse, we're not that bad.
To take your points:
1) Unbalanced side. Yep, but most teams are in one way or another. Give us a decent goal-scorer and we'd be fine.
2) Top players leaving. They've done that for a long time. Remember Southgate, Ehiogu? That's life.
3) Manager struggling. He's made mistakes in the past, but as far as he's been able to I think he's used what he's got now as best he can. Remember, he had no choice but to go for bargain buys in the summer.
4) Owner who wants out. You're right. Uncertainty at the top is no good for any club.
5) Poor crowds. By our standards, yes. Better than most. Everybody wants us to do better. But there isn't a quick solution; it'll be gradual, as with every club.
6) Can't score goals, leak plenty. We have a problem up front. But I reckon plugging the leaks isn't too difficult; in our first four matches the defence were tops.
7) Out of league cup. Great! That should help.
8) Baggies above us. For the moment. We will wipe the floor with them. WE ARE BETTER THAN BAGGIES!!!
No we aren't hopeless. We've had some good, even very good, results, and we're good enough to get back on track. Stop trying to ignore how hard the schedule we've had has been.
deluded or what?
You're better than the teams above you?
Face it, someone has to be relegated and this time round, again, it looks like you.
Sad as it may seem, it happens. Adopt the 'relegation celebration' attitude and enjoy the ride.
Better than the teams above us? Why not? We're better than some of them. After the first 4 matches we were 2nd; does that make us better than the 18 teams below us? No.
Leaving off the bottom 3 and the top 5 there's hardly anything between the remaining teams. All of whom have had a lot easier schedules than we have had.
Going down? The only way that would happen would be if the team had a massive loss of confidence. Which at the moment doesn't seem to be happening.
Villa arent great but they arent bottom three.
For a start... they had the worst fixture list I have seen for years. (By contrast, after 11 matches Southampton have only played Liverpool. No Arsemal, no Man U, no Man City, no Chelsea... clearly the fixture list was drawn up by a Saints fan!)
With a bit of good luck - and Villa have had bad luck mostly - Villa will still finish 12th or thereabouts.
You were unlucky against Spurs and you are lucky today with a point.
Anyway, debt repaid for giving us 3 points when we were in trouble a season ago.

Southampton are one of the fluke wins just like against West Ham..
