Yes. Perhaps the all-time classic FA cup final. Remember it all clear as a bell, including the replay.
Juan, This game for me was the catalyst for my long term support of CFC and addiction to the game !
The replay was as hard fought, pure drama.
Wasn't old enough to watch it sadly, Sounds like a great game.
1 star, please feel free to prove me wrong as to the importance of this match and its place in English footballing history.
Chavy, go to you you tube and watch it when you have time, its a must for all CFC supporters.
It's the one everyone still talks about to this day.
Even better that it allowed us to play in and win the European Cup Winners Cup the following season. Beating Real Madrid in the Final no less
Alan Clarke. What a player!
Thats right superb it was a very special time for the club.
Another point is that the Leeds side were the majority of the England squad.
Going into the 1970 world cup.
THE FA Cup Final without doubt
Jaun that leeds side were the real deal.
Bremner, Clarke , Lorimer, Madeley,Giles, Hunter, Charlton , Grey , Cooper.
Pure quality!
I remember a current day referee analysed the game. He'd have dished out quite a few red cards, having said that, most matches in this era were probably similar :D
Carefree, yes it was a different game, a little bit like close combat war fare.
I remember watching both games. Leeds had a claim to be the best team in Europe at the time and were the better side for a lot of both games, but Chelsea held on and eventually won. The first game was played on a bog of a pitch after the Horse of the Year Show.
David Elleray re reffed the game fairly recently and under current rules red carded 6 and yellow carded 20.
Agreed were/ Leeds did have the claim as the best side in europe and were edging CFC in the League, but CFC went on to win the match over two legs and beat Real Madrid in the Super cup.
Incredible times.
It was pretty much a typical Chelsea Performance given our recent (last few years) form.
Leeds were the better team, playing better football. We dug deep held on and won with a late goal.
White wall you summarise , but it did have a fair bit of drama through out the 90 minutes.
Amazingly we didn't Alan Hudson playing that day.

I recall Eddie Gray running David Webb ragged in the 1st game and for the replay Ron Harris was put on Gray, who ended up in the 10th row after the 1st tackle and funnily enough seemed to not contribute an awful lot after that.
The original Chooper as i recollect !
Ifarka, I recall Hudson broke his ankle not long before the end of the season. I just remember that period vividly as an 8 year old not long before the World Cup in 70.
Gunner, yeah Hudson, i think only Bonetti went to that world cup from CFC.
Gunner then in 1971 you had one of the great Arsenal sides the " double winners "
Osgood went with England in 70, Ifarka. Arsenal finished mid table in 70 yet won the then very rare Double in 71. Shows how little difference there was between a lot of sides then. Can you imagine a mid table side from last season winning the Double this season?
