Monreal's done ok, he's better than I thought he'd be at CB. Bellerin's an untested kid so there's no guarantee he'd improve us, you wouldn't play Walcott RB just because he's got pace. United's team is slow too plus their team has no balance, we should dominate this game and win easily... should

Let's hope they don't celebrate a draw like they did against Chelsea
Embarrassing.
---------------------
Given Arsenal's recent results against Chelsea I would have though you'd be in no position to determine what is "embarrassing".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Celebrating late goal to secure points embarrassing?!
Maybe this is why you have struggled so much in the league, you are far too important to go for a draw, much better just to lose.....

Chambers over Monreal, any day of the week. Bellerin is young and inexperienced, but at least he has some pace. Better to play him at RB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. I can see why we persisted with Monreal cb against the swans, we have had too much chopping and changing this season and wenger wanted some consistency. However Chambers has the perfect attributes for cb and has looked damn impressive in that position this season. I think Monreal should defintely start rb, as I said hes performed well for us recently. Surely you cannot deny this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn't mind Monreal at RB, at all. So long as he's not being asked to do a job which is not natural to him.
I would also like Wenger to tell his RB to stop bombing forwards along with the LB. We don't need both fullbacks overlapping the midfield, especially since our midfield can't cover the defence adequately.
Monreal just doesn't have the physique to work at CB. So it's destined to cause problems. Any forward will out jump and muscle him to the ball, if it's fired in the air. If a team is instructed to fire crosses into the box, he will inevitably loose out in the air, same from set plays. Sagna did ok there, because he's built better, even though he's short, he could jump high and was strong. Monreal is not. He's not done awful there, but he's just not built for it.
I don't know why we couldn't try Gibbs at RB, Monreal LB, then chambers can go CB. Gibbs I'm sure would do ok. Just his crosses would be even worse as he'd be on his weaker foot. But his defending would probably still be good. Also don't know why we let coq go, he can do a good job at RB.
I sort of agree with both sides of the argument on the Monreal debate.
He certainly isn't the answer to our CB problem, and as has been said, his lack of aerial ability is going to be targeted, but lack of aerial prowess aside, I've been surprised by how well he reads the game from the CB position.
With his experience at LB, he's very comfortable at dealing with balls down the channel, and on the ball, he looks very assured.
As good as Chambers is at CB, I suspect that Wenger has concerns about the Mertesacker-Chambers partnership.
Chambers' main problem at CB is his proclivity to try and win the ball-back early and get caught out when diving in - we've seen this on numerous occasions this season, with the likes of Dzeko, Ba, and Lukaku all getting the better of him because of this rashness.
Whilst this is always going to be a problem, at least when we had Koscielny alongside him, he had a partner with enough pace to cover for his errors. Alongside Mertesacker, if Chambers gets caught out, there's no-one who can make up the ground and bail him out.
Similarly, if Mertesacker gets beaten, Chambers' all-or-nothing style can leave us very vulnerable. Take the Naismith goal against us for example: Lukaku takes Mertesacker out of the game (arguably illegally), and instead of holding the Belgian up and waiting for defensive cover to arrive, Chambers flies in, misses the ball, and leaves us completely exposed.
For all his flaws, Monreal has the composure and intelligence to effectively cover for Mertesacker.
I'm not saying he's the answer, and I'm not necessarily saying I'd prefer him there to Chambers (both have their flaws); I just think the Monreal vs Chambers debate isn't as clear-cut as some suggest.
If you lose to this atrocious United team managed by Mr Ego but worse than Moyes then Wenger should walk.
I don't mind Monreal at CB, per se. However, I believe his flaws are magnified when he plays alongside Mertesacker. Mert has many attributes, but pace isn't one of them. When he does get into trouble, it's often Kosc will bail him out.
Monreal is the same, only Mert hasn't the pace to cover him. Merts positional sense bails Kosc out, and Kosc's pace bails Mert out. It's a partnership that works so long as one of the partners has pace.
Chambers doesn't have the same pace as Kosc, but it's a lot better than Monreal. I would certainly invest more time in the Mert and Chambers partnership, than Mert and Monreal partnership.
Though the truth of it is, we don't have a natural replacement for Kosc in the side. That went when Wenger sold Vermaelen. Chambers, if anything, is more of a replacement for Mert.

Drop your pre loaded criticsims, open your eyes and look objectively rather than just pushing brainwashed pre conceived ideas.
Monreal has been good in that cb position for us for a good while, even outperforming Per at at times.
Just because saying Monreal is poor at cb is the fashionable thing to do after we didnt sign a centre back, doesnt mean its the actual truth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
nothing to add. Well done Godfather.
Saying that, even though Monreal has performed well, Ill admit we need better than him at the moment. We desperately need a top class cb back there. We need Kos back asap

GT with his customary pointless comments.
I think you're overstating Monreal's lack of pace.
Since he's played CB, I don't think there's any goals you could attribute to the lack of pace of the Monreal-Mertesacker partnership.
Against Hull, Diame's goal stemmed from a foul on Flamini, and Hernandez' was a header where he beat Mertesacker.
Of the 4 Anderlecht goals, 2 were headers, one was a penalty conceded because Monreal couldn't deal with a high-ball, and the other was a cut-back to an untracked Van Den Borre.
And against Swansea, one was a freekick from 30 yards and the other was a header after Chambers had been beaten by Montero.
I would actually say Monreal's reasonably mobile for a CB. Against Swansea, there was a ball played down the left-channel which Monreal beat Bony to despite similar starting positions. I'm not saying Bony is the fastest player in the world, but I think any CB that can beat the Ivorian down the line should be considered pretty mobile.
Thank fack arteta is fit
Has to start
I think if Arteta is fit, that is more of a bonus to us. It's no coincidence that we look awful when Mikel is off the pitch and Flamini is on. In fact, Anderlecht only managed their 3 goals when Arteta was injured and off the field.
Arteta fit means better protection for the CBs, regardless of who they are.
OMG Giroud is available for the United game. We are fúcked.
IMO to suggest Monreal has performed "well" is a bit of a stretch.
IMO he has been mediocre and it has largely be due to Merts being well below par that has given some the impression he has performed ably.

on Giroud…
He is three or four weeks ahead of schedule. Originally we planned to have him back for competition at the beginning of next year. So he's one month ahead.
At least no one can complain of Giroud's fitness. Cant remember an Arsenal player who had a better physique as him.
Why can't all the other players have fitness like Giroud? Why does it have to be our worst player who is the most fittest??
TBI I think we would be better with Roy at the helm. Look at the way our boys have played for England.
We won't win, Wenger is a dinosaur.
think you'll beat them....they willstruggle(as lots do) with sanchez.
I fancy Arsenal for this. The balance of the side is better and they have more pace in important areas. I can see a Utd player being sent off if they start losing as well and a few have walked this season already.
This Utd side has dropped points in 7 of their 11 games and don't really have any players in form. You could make a case for Di Maria (who may be carrying an injury) and possibly Rooney but in all truth Palace gave them all kinds of problems.
De Gea will have to play very well indeed I reckon.
